My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Inn. It was an Anniversary trip. The staff helped us celebrate by decorating the room and providing a bottle of champagne. The Wallace suite is a large, comfortable room and nicely furnished. There is a good size common area with multiple table-chair sets for games or reading. There is also a kitchen area where coffee, tea and a assortment of cookies/crackers are provided free of charge. It was also nice not needing a key or key card. We were provided codes to get into the building and for our room. No meals are provided, but the staff provides some dining discount vouchers and their own reviews of some of the local restaurants/diners. It’s not your typical place, as there is a church on the property that has been converted for events planning. Highly recommend if you’re coming to the area.

Property's Favorite Review
Forget the picture-postcard Maine of cottages clustered around lighthouses on rocky coastlines, charming though that is. The Maine of day-to-day reality is a state of Yankee independence and industry, with wealth built on immigrant labor, that's been smartly repurposing itself since the collapse of Northern industry of the past half-century. The Inn at the Agora captures both Maine's prosperous past and its retooling for a dynamic future. The Inn occupies the grand 1850s residence of one of the leading industrialists of 19th century Lewiston, which an entrepreneurial monsignor snapped up as his rectory at the turn of the last century when building St. Patrick's Church next door for his Irish immigrant flock. Those immigrants have now dispersed, replaced by Somalis; Billie-Jayne Cooke has transformed the former rectory into a historic inn that preserves the woodwork and high ceilings that had graced the lives of both the industrialist builder and subsequent clerical residents. Furnishings faithfully reflect the era. Fortunately, both plumbing and Wi-Fi meet 21st century expectations. (The former St. Patrick's church she has converted into a splendid events space.) The Inn looks out over the town green (renamed Kennedy Park, for it was the site of presidential candidate John F. Kennedy's last rally the night before the 1960 election), which holds the city's monument to its Civil War dead and open-air basketball courts for its youth today. The green slopes gently downward toward the downtown and the Androscoggin River -- a short walk that takes you through the new Somali business district and to the restaurants and residences in the old Bates textile mills. We enjoyed the historic character and the warm hospitality that Billie's Inn offers. And we appreciated enjoying its comforts at a very comfortable price: $155 for a double in early August. (This may be "low season" for Lewiston, since the city is not so much a vacation destination as a college town, with Bates College just up the hill.) Overall, Inn at the Agora proved a delightful choice for us, passing through.

The innkeeper and staff were very friendly and accomodating especially in regard to our covid concerns, and the little luxuries made us feel to pampered. We were pleased to see the inn's restoration and repurposing of the church. Billy kindly mailed back pants that I had left behind. We used our breakfast voucher for great omelets at Simone's.

I had to cancel my original stay and luckily they had room (I think any events at Bates, the Inn fills up quickly) and it's was a lovely stay. Large room and welcoming owner. Very knowledgable about the area and was a great advocate for the town (which is a little rough around the edges). Large beautiful old house close to the city center.

We stayed in the Healy Suite. The room and adjoining bathroom were very clean. The bathroom had dispensers filled with shower gel, shampoo and lotion. The bed was super comfortable. The Inn is beautiful. I would definitely look to stay in the Healy Suite again. Just an overall beautiful and comfortable room. I also loved that the Inn offered filtered water in clean reusable bottles. It is awesome to find environmentally friendly amenities.

This is a wonderful, historic inn. It is clean, the staff is wonderfully accommodating, the inn has been wonderfully restored. The room we were assigned was at the end of a hallway, with a door that closed off from the rest of the inn. As a result, we had the entire wing to ourselves. As wonderful as this inn is to stay at, a traveler considering this location must be aware that the area in which it is located is extremely poor, not well maintained, and has a large population of homeless people. The inn has a private parking lot with security. Those of you who are familiar with the movie "Being There" can relate to this location.

I actually had to watch that movie to see the reference. While I don't think it is that bad, I do understand the reference. I also appreciate honest reviews that talk openly about our neighborhood and still enjoy their stay with us. Nobody can look at our reviews and then act surprised. That said, we also understand that no positive change can occur if businesses like ours don't try to be the positive change needed to help shift things.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. And, they made great suggestions about restaurants in the area. The hotel was originally a grand home and each room is different. The decorations are period appropriate and charming. There is a parlor and a game room where guests can comfortably "hang out" and meet each other. Also, the lock system is tied to your phone number, is easy to use, and you don't need to carry a key or key card anywhere.

I was only in search of a place to lay my head for a couple nights while I attended a wedding with my girlfriend. What I found was an inn that qualifies indisputably as one of America's hidden gems. Everything was accounted for, the innkeeper was superlatively kind and responsive, the room comfortable and safe, the building itself historic. A wrap around porch. Lightning fast wifi. Strong water pressure. Board games. A well-stocked kitchen. Robes and slippers. Everything I could have wanted and more. My only wish is that I had reason to go to Lewiston more often because a thousand times out of a thousand I would stay at the inimitable Inn at the Agora – a true success that you will loathe yourself for missing out on if given the opportunity.

From the moment we drove into the inn's adjacent, dedicated parking lot until checkout two nights later we could not have been happier. Here's what was perfect: • The manager's warm welcome and attentiveness • Her recommendation for what turned out to be a PERFECT breakfast 12,000 steps away • The cafe itself, which specializes in fresh baked bagels • The excellent door locking system for both the room and inn itself • Common kitchen and ready rooms, well equipped • Reasonable price • The room -- Equipped with every possible amenity including thick towels, washcloths, toiletry items, terrific stall shower, very private bathroom, big screen Roku TV, mini flashlights on each bed stands, excellent air conditioner, mints, comfortable bed, and various others that made us feel right at home. The one tiny imperfection, you ask? A wedding was held one of the nights at the nearby church, intense music that lasted for hours. But the manager had advised us when we checked in so we would be surprised. Chances are excellent if YOU take our recommendation and visit this inn there will be no wedding. All in all, a wonderful experience.

Thank you for the detailed review. We do apologize for the wedding noise - hard to control happiness sometimes. However, if you ever do find yourself staying with us again, and if we do happen to have another wedding during your stay, know that if you call the Inn, we will do our very best to get the music turned down. Sometimes we become so immune to it (plus we aren't trying to sleep) that we don't realize how loud it can get.
