It was a very pleasant experience. The manager Dawn went out of her way to help meet our needs for our handicapped son. This is not your ordinary run of the mill places to stay. It is beautiful in history and you don't find this type of personal care in a large hotel. The hotel is close enough to Sugarloaf... More

Stayed at Herbert Grand during winter vacation and we had a great time. This is definitely a cool older building and nothing like the cookie cutter hotels in other areas. The place is 100 years old and the owners are doing a lot to restore it. The lobby is beautiful and my family and I had dinner and breakfast there.... More

On a recent ski trip, we stayed at the Herbert Grand over the Sugarloaf Mountain Resort to save a few dollars - what a mistake! Other reviewers describe this hotel as quaint; it's really just plain old outdated, uncomfortable and inconveniently located 16 miles from the mountain. From the odd woman at the front desk who could not find our... More

Stayed @ the Herbert with my GF and 3 boys and dined right across the street for dinner. The snow was flying so the parking and front of the hotel was messy. However, the inside was impressive and the family room for 5 was spacious and comfortable. I would stay there again for sure especially when we visit Sugarloaf. The... More

Stayed at the Herbert Grand over Christmas break during a ski trip to Sugarloaf Mountain. The hotel was great. My buddies and I stayed in a room with two beds (fit four of us) which had the bare amentiies but it was good and clean and the price was perfect for our budget--you can't beat $2 Sam Adams! The hotel... More

There is nothing "Grand" about this place! The rooms were WAY outdated, unclean, a visual scare! The smell was like a gross locker room, making it almost unbearable! This place makes the Carrabasset Valley Inn look like the Bostonian! DO NOT LET THE LOBBY FOOL YOU! Ugh.

The title about sums up this hotel. The owner is very friendly and made us feel incredibly welcome. Apparently, the hotel was purchased by a family a few years back and they are renovating. By the sounds of things from the owner, there was lots of improvements done in the past few years. The hotel is a gem but is... More

Stayed three nights at the Herbert while doing some early season skiing at Sugarloaf. This is an older (historic?) building built about 100 years ago and still in great shape. The lobby and dining room are very cool and it is a lot of fun to just hang out and look around the place. The room was clean with antique... More

I love the Hebert. The people are very friendly and the overall hotel is beautiful, but the rooms need some updates. Im not saying to "modernize" but we stayed in the suite and the mattress is very old and the bedding is worn. Keep the charm, but update the comfort.

My wife and I stayed at there during a foliage trip in late September and we had a great time. The lobby is something out of an old novel. Very quaint with gorgeous woodworking and a warm feel. The rooms are cozy and contain many antique pieces. As some reviews mention, the rooms are old but they are clean and... More
