James Fairfield House (formerly Captain Fairfield Inn) is artful and eclectic. All 9 rooms feature a working fireplace, a bold and bright color palette, modern upholstered furnishings, original abstract paintings from a local Maine artist, and rich natural textures throughout. The house is a classic example of early Federal period architecture; its plank pine floors and original moulding add to this building’s historic interest.

At the recommendation of a NYTimes Sunday review we reserved a room at the Captain Fairfield Inn. I can summarize this stay as the worst service, if any, as possible. Upon arrival we were unable to find anyone to help us check in. Finally, a very stern woman greeted us, grudgingly gave us our key and collected our balance, and left us. No introduction to the room whatsoever. We were unable to work the heat, electric fireplace, and, the shower. During my much anticipated shower, the temperature knob fell on the floor and I was nearly scalded. After much calling, we managed to get someone to help us. Many apologies and promises followed for better service. They never happened. When we had further questions, all I got was a busy single or no answer. There is nobody on site to ask questions. In addition, we discovered there was no cleaning service! Of course, like everything else, they blamed it on Covid. We had to make our own bed, change our own towels from the housekeeper, and restore our own toilet paper and tissues. We complained again and got some maid service. The next morning we had a crew of three plumbers and handymen in our toilet fixing the shower. It was clearly broken when wehad arrived. The plumbers were the best staff of all. Very nice. The so-called, breakfast was awful. Little pre-prepared boxes of bland tasting food. No microwave to heat up the cold quiche, little rolls of granola, etc. No attendant whatsoever to help us. Just grab your milk and juice from the fridge, and make your own coffee. I could go on, but the point is, if you want any service, do not stay here. In summary this is a B and B with high rates and low to no service. The rooms are spacious and well decorated. Low staff again is blamed on Covid (isn't everything? ) If you are going to cut back on housekeeping, food, service, then lower the rates accordingly.

Stayed here for a fall weekend and it was great. They have done a great job of balancing the beauty and perks of the hotel with covid-19 shifts. Instead of breakfast in the main area - they drop it off at your door - and stocked us up with towels prior to us getting there. The staff at reception was incredibly nice the when we called or stopped by. Easy walk into town, and easy drive to many other towns and opportunities for hikes or beachfront walks. Similar to other Lark Hotels, the service, charm, and quality was great.

We absolutely loved this inn! Everything was exceptionally clean and beautifully decorated. Most of all, the staff was warm, friendly and helpful. The chef even shared her recipes for the delicious breakfast we had!

We stayed in the Lark Suite / Room 1 in the Lord Mansion and the room was absolutely beautiful. A warm toasty fireplace, comfy bed, and a luxurious bathroom. Great location in the heart of Kennebunkport, with lots to see, and lots of shops to visit.

Captain Fairfield is a wonderful Inn in a great location. We were able to walk to all of the main bars and restaurants in about 10-15 minutes. The free parking (at least in November during off season) was a huge perk. We really enjoyed the hot and cold breakfast delivered to our door daily. It was some variation of eggs, yogurt, juice, water, fruit and a sweet side. You can eat it at the common spaces throughout the hotel which we opted for. Complimentary Kcups for your in-room Keurig and tea on the main floor was another huge plus. We stayed in Room 5 - Walker which is at the top of the stairs on the second floor. The room was warm and cozy and had a wonderful remote controlled gas fireplace. We could not have been happier with our stay here, especially with such affordable prices. I'd highly recommend staying here.
