We planned on spending a night in Houlton, flying by the seat of our pants, and lucked in to this little jewel. Fancy, no. Comfy, YES! We called ahead for a room and when we got there, Louise suggested a bit of an upgrade that included a sofa in the room. This was so nice of her since we were checking in early and spending a bit longer in the room. Having a couch to relax on was a thoughtful gesture. We asked about biking or walking trails and she directed us to the nearby river which has a 2.3 mile trail to follow. The trail was very easily manoeuvred, although there are some steep parts to it, if you go the complete circuit. There were information posts describing the flora and fauna of the area and a large portion of the trail followed the river and had two Adirondack chairs, in multiple locations, to sit and take in the views. (The complete circuit would be difficult to manoeuvre by anyone who wasn’t comfortable climbing relatively steep inclines which could be quite slippery when damp/wet.) Our room was large, bright, comfy and super clean. A nice touch had an extra sink in the room, too. We could park right outside. Louise was EXCELLENT at her job! David, in the evening, was helpful as well, when we had unexpected and unexplained TV issues that were quickly resolved. He even called us to make sure everything was still ok, about an hour later. Will DEFINITELY be spreading the word about this place and will return the next time we make it to Houlton!

We were traveling for just a night. The lobby personal was very nice and helpful as well. She told us about the restaurant that was on site as well as a discount for an appetizer. The room could have used a few updates. The room was very clean as well as had all the amenities I needed. I would have liked to see a tea bag with the coffee maker as we don't drink coffee. The lounge/bar was terrific. It was great to come back to the hotel and have a drink and an appetizer. The breakfast was delicious!! They had everything that you could possibly want. And the day staff was very helpful also. The only negative that I have is to say that when I tried to book a King room on their website it stated they only had one handicapped room left. I called to inquire and was told they had plenty of kings. I asked if I could have one of them and would I get the same price the website was offering and I was told no. I did let the staff go and actually looked at another hotel across the street. I think this is something that they might want to look into. We wanted a King and settled for two full's.

Stayed here last night. Was planning on driving home, but it was late and still had over 3 hours to go. The difficulty in finding a motel that allows pets is becoming a real problem. They have (I think) 3 rooms that they reserve for guests with dogs (no cats). The room was very clean and quite modern. There is an Irish Pub down the hallway that serves drinks and appetizers. I had the breakfast - Bacon, sausage, fried and scrambled eggs, pancakes, cereal, assorted bread / Danish, coffee and juice. I think a person might be wise to book online rather than "walk in." Taking into account the pet fee and taxes, my room still ran a good $35 over what is shown on travel sites. Maybe the rooms in which pets are allowed are just more expensive, or the travel sites have better deals. I didn't go online before to check. Very nice, clean, friendly motel that I will not hesitate to recommend.

Don't let the exterior fool you! I saw a 5 gallon bucket holding up an air conditioner unit for the office, made me wonder some. But I am so glad we stayed here! Room was nicely decorated and clean. Hallways seemed wider than usual and we didn't have to leave the motel for anything, a great restaurant was just down the hall. Staff couldn't have been nicer! Breakfast was better than usual as well.
