I have been reading all the reviews with much interest. There is such a dramatic swing in opinions ; some very positive and others, extremely negative. My opinion falls into the negative category. When I arrived, a young girl was there to show me to my room and tell me the basics. Then she disappeared. I have stayed in many B and B ‘s and inns in my life and never encountered anything like this . It is basically a lonely, empty, ghost like place. I think that the family lives in a building behind and they only show up when absolutely necessary. There is no cheery morning greeting, no one to speak to with enquiries or when something goes wrong , which it did ; no one to speak to whatsoever. My bathroom sink blocked on my second afternoon; the drain mechanism was broken. So I had a full sink of water until I left the next day. Breakfast: That was a scene and a half. It is served from 9:00-9:30 . Never have I seen such a small window !! The tables are bare in the so-called dining room. No place mats, no nosegays of flowers? When I asked why the table was so bare, I was told that it was a Covid issue; that the place mats would have to be washed and air dried after every use ????? There are some very attractive paper placemats which could be placed over a flowered tablecloth. Lots of solutions to make everything look more attractive, with a little imagination. Re the food: A ramekin of fresh fruit was plunked down on the bare table , without even a saucer. There were eggs offered: a few different omelettes and the usual sunny-side-up and scrambled. I asked for a simple poached egg. I was told that ‘he’ ( the son, maybe ) did not know how to poach an egg !! I offered to show him how. He managed to make me a perfectly fine poached egg !! The next morning, day 3, Rick staggered in, in his sweat pants, ball cap and slippers. Not a good look for an inn keeper!! He was angry. Though I had never met him, I had sent him quite an angry email about my clogged sink and the lack of any presence at the inn. I asked for a poached egg again and he said no, because it was not on the menu. He then told me that he wanted me to leave that morning, a day early. That was a first !! I packed up and left immediately. I found a lovely inn up the coast near Camden. The breakfast room had a sweeping view over the ocean. There was a roaring fire in the living room. All the tables had pretty flowered tablecloths, covered with embossed white paper placemats. The owner, wearing a lovely , pleated flowery apron, served us all her homemade, warm blueberry muffins. Now that’s what I call a great inn !!

Our daughter and son in law first Wedding date 8/2020 was canceled due to Covid and we waited a year but the wait was well worth it! Our family had the most wonderful wedding at the Harpswell Inn! The Inn owner Rick and his entire family could not have been better or more accommodating! Cooked to order daily breakfasts, the entire family was kind, welcoming and made our wedding a success! Having a wedding in Maine is for the special folks who truly appreciate nature, and not a boring mono-culture manicured area, changing weather, and stunning water views and sunsets. We had it all and could not be happier. Our families traveled from ME, MA, NH, CT, MI, WI, NY, CO, CA, FL, NC and we heard no complaints or crazy stories. This Inn is a gem for sure ! We will return again and again! This is a perfect wedding venue for the more mature adult who respect the beauty of nature and neighbors. The event vendors we selected from Ricks list were awesome and all hung on with us for the whole years wait! Thank you Rick and Trish for making our stay perfect in every way!

We had the most wonderful stay in mid - October -- our suite was immaculate, homey, spacious and full of ambiance. And we loved going outside and walking to the scenic point in the morning to look out over the water and relish the landscape. Our breakfast was wonderful -- various selections, all yummy. Our hosts were accommodating, helpful and kind. And I especially appreciated, during these Covid times, that our room would not be rented for several days prior to our stay for our protection. All told, our stay at Harpswell was the highlight of our trip! We enthusiastically recommend staying here!

Recently attended a family member's wedding at this Inn. The wedding was planned and date moved due to Covid 19, so the owner "Rick" had plenty of time to prepare the property as he had promised when he was paid. Upon arrival at the Inn, the grounds were a mess. Grass clippings, sticks, and a lawn that needed mowing was what we were presented. The front porch had empty flower pots, kayaks, and empty wine bottles. Family friends immediately started picking up sticks . The owner's son did come out at this point and helped for a short time. The owner was no where to be found to discuss the condition of the property. On the day of the wedding, he placed a small amount of mulch around a rock. We inquired about trash cans. Trash cans were found in between shrubs, but when WE got them, they were filled with shrub clippings, which WE disposed of. The next morning, he spent his time roping off the bar area as one family member in her wedding attire was raking excessive grass clippings at the alter. I guess he thought he was the quality control advisor as he was seen taking vodka shots. His dress was not wedding attire appropriate. (sweatpants and ballcap) When questions or requests were presented to him, he became obstinate, defensive, and down right rude. His mantra, "This isn't my first rodeo." I could go on and on. He made himself right at home with our food , booze, and sat himself down at a table. Brides beware. Harpswell is beautiful. Choose another venue.

Attended a good friends beautiful wedding. Location is beautiful and the inn was convenient. Our friends filled the suites and the bedrooms inside the inn as well. The owner... Rick. He’s a different story. He was continuously rude and seemed to always feel like he needed to be apart of the scene or just in the background of every point of the weekend. During the rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception he wore sweatpants and a sweatshirt while walking around the crowd. Seems slightly unprofessional and inappropriate for a wedding. He found it necessary to interrupt the speeches, SIT AT A TABLE AND WATCH THE GUESTS DANCE DURING THE RECEPTION (in his sweatpants), he drank alcohol from the bar that was supplied and paid for by the bride and groom, and also attempted to walk away with bottles of alcohol at the end of the night. All in all - I DO NOT RECOMMEND If I could give it 0 stars I would.

We loved the Harpswell Inn! The owners were fabulous, food was great and the rooms were lovely! We stayed in Eagle's Nest and it was perfect for myself, my husband and our toddler, and it was definitely spacious enough for a larger family. (It had 1.5 baths and a full size kitchen!) The Inn's location is incredible; right on the water with beautiful sunset views. My toddler spent the entire time looking for boats (of which there were many due to lobster fishing). It was also close to some cute towns; we enjoyed exploring Brunswick and trying out some trendy dining options. We will definitely return!

I visited the Harpswell Inn during a mid-September weekend, arriving later in the evening than I would have liked, but was treated like a long-lost friend..the feeling, stepping inside after a very long drive (from Boston), after a long exhale, was "This is so nice!" Rick and Trish were not only welcoming but available over the course of the weekend for anything, directions, suggestions, etc. I stayed in the Longfellow Room on the second floor, very cozy, bookcase with quite the collection, private bathroom (even a robe, extremely rare in my hotel experiences!) The food - lobster in my case- was outstanding, prepared by the hosts and their kids (really nice, I'm sorry I forgot their names!).... The location of the Inn is at the base of a small peninsula jutting into the bay...the beauty of the close surroundings is satisfying in of itself...but, as Rick pointed out, the Harpswell Land Trust and the long peninsulas pointing south into the bay are breathtaking, with many hiking trails along the coast, as well as further up the peninsulas. I'm sorry to say I didn't take advantage of Brunswick, but to the credit of the Inn and the aforementioned surroundings, I'm fine with taking a rain check on that for my next stay!

My husband and I stayed at the inn for our 25th wedding anniversary with a group of dear friends. The location is “over the top” beautiful with a picturesque view of the bay. The main living area is cozy and comfy and the dining area roomy. The decor is tastefully done with beautiful wallpaper and antique furniture. It is like stepping back in time. We took a tour of the inn and I can honestly say that each room has it’s very own charm making it had to chose one over the other. The room we chose was lovely, spacious, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The host’s Trish and Rick are gracious and and personable and quite accommodating. It was a pleasure to meet them. Being here in the fall was truly amazing but I believe a stay at the inn in any season is worthwhile. The surrounding areas of Baileys And Orrs Island offer so much for the true nature lover - refreshingly beautiful as you breathe in the mid coastal air. My recommendation is simply “GO”. I know we will be back !!!

We stayed two nights in this lovely home - the location was nice, peaceful and off the beaten track for sure - our room was on the third floor with views of the water and gardens below - Comfortable and relaxing with a gas fireplace - great for colder nights - the hosts were accommodating and kind. Breakfast was very good - the bacon especially !! We would recommend the Harpswell Inn for a relaxing getaway - bring a good book, curl up in front of the fireplace and unwind - 😉👍
