It's a long drive to find this gem in the midst of the Maine woods, but well worth it. A former hunting/fishing camp, the Appalachian Mountain Club has fixed up the place and made it wonderful if you love the outdoors. Eight or nine cabins on the lakefront are rustic but comfortable. Three "deluxe" cabins behind them are rustic and... More

We stayed here on a luxurious overnight while hiking the 100 Mile Wilderness on the AT and it was fantastic (we took two zero's it was so nice and relaxing). Food was great and plentiful, better than the NH huts and the Maine Huts in my opinion. We had a lot of fun chatting with other guests and the very... More

We came to Gorman Chairback Lodge as a family with 4 teenagers over Memorial Day weekend. We stayed in a "deluxe" cabin, meaning it had a bathroom and upgraded spaces from the lakefront cabins. It was perfectly sized for us: a queen bedroom, a bunk room bedroom and futon in the living room. All linens and towels, as well as... More

I love this place. The staff and other guests are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The sauna is a complete joy after a day out in the cold beauty of the Maine woods in winter. The accommodations and food are warm and homey.

AMC's Gorman Chairback Lodge and cabins are a great getaway and have the potential to be an awesome cross country and BC skiing experience that are pretty accessible yet you also feel like you are really in the wilderness during the day yet have full amenities at night. My rating would be "excellent" if based solely upon the lodges, however,... More

The staff & food and Gorman Chairback are fantastic! You couldn't want a better backcountry experience. They have expertly groomed ski & snowshoe trails, a beautiful new lodge with a sauna, showers, nice lounge with fireplace and spacious dining room with great views of Long Pond.

We snowshoed approximately seven miles along well maintained trails from Little Lyford, another of AMC's lodges in the 100 Mile Wilderness, others were on skis. Both the modern lodge and rebuilt log cabins are rustic in appearance, and offer an exquisite setting along Long Pond. As with other AMC facilities, staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and competent; food was well prepared... More

We just returned from two nights at Gorman Chairback celebrating our 40th anniversary with daughters and their husbands. Our cabin (#11) slept 6 comfortably and the lodge was just 20 yards away. Whether skiing on well-groomed trails, seeing moose tracks, birds and an otter or nestled around a woodstove working on a jig-saw puzzle, we couldn't have asked for a... More

We just spent 3 amazing days at Gorman lodge with 16 family members ages 18 months to 77 years. It was amazing. A great staff. Heavenly accommodations in rustic cabins on the edge of a frozen lake. Food was great. Cross country skiing fun. Be prepared for a long ski in or take the snow coach ride.

This was our first time at an AMC lodge. We generally tent or stay in a motel and we usually travel with our kayaks and hiking gear. I had read so much about this place in the AMC magazine we decided to give it a try. Greenville is an awesome little town, fun stores, nice little waterfront and a fantastic... More
