luckily we discovered this Inn by accident several years ago. Since then, we have been staying here every year on our annual fall Maine vacation. First, the staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. The rooms are spotless and very quiet. The location is perfect for us. Not too close to town and not too far. The included breakfast has something for everyone, cereal, toast, yogurt, muffins, etc. I only wish they served whole milk instead of skim milk (they claim it's 1 %). When i'm on vacation I want to indulge myself with all the fat! LOL. I highly recommend this Inn to anyone considering a visit to Freeport. You won't regret it.
WE just love to stay at this inn, it is quiet, away from the hustle of the town, and the service quality is outstanding. Great value for money, and a good nights rest. The breakfast is just about right, not too fancy, great coffee and a nice dining area. Easy to find, get in and get out. We ALWAYS stay at this in when we go to FReeport.
I know this is not hotel’s fault, but we had the rudest people staying above us. Sounded like they were jumping up & down & literally throwing furniture around til well after midnight & then again before 6:00 am!! We hardly slept at all.
For the actual accommodations: Carpet is very worn & dingy. I assume we’re in the wing that hasn’t been updated yet :-( Pillows are awful! They’re like hard concrete blocks. Sheets are cheap, dingy & scratchy. Furniture & decor is very dated. Straight out of the 1970s. TV was small & screen format on espn was janky. Hard to watch the ballgame. Plus was the 2nd sink outside the bathroom. The bathroom does appear to have been recently painted & updated somewhat. There was a small fridge & microwave if you need that.
All of the reviews raving over this place must’ve stayed in the updated section. Would love to see one of those rooms! I would not choose to stay here again.
We totally enjoyed the family style atmosphere. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly. Nice beds, showers, Kurig coffee makers in each room along with fridge and microwaves. We liked the 2 sinks and light airy rooms. The breakfasts were true continental style, no real hot foods except for the waffles and bagels, but enough to choose from. Coffee was good (Greek Mountain). They had 2 nice restaurants just across the street (Mexican bar and Wine room) along with 2 shops (souvenir and antique shops). We would stay here again!
Rooms are old and dingy (not like the photos). Towels in the bathroom were scratchy and the toiletries were cheap. The air conditioner has a "low, medium or high" setting option, so forget about climate controlling. I specifically called the hotel to verify this before booking and was lied to. Not very close to things to do in the area- not a good place to walk around. Breakfast was just ok and very basic (no hot options other than oatmeal). Customer service was subpar. The front desk attendant wasn't friendly and seemed annoyed that I booked through a third party website. When you book at an Inn instead of a chain hotel you expect customer service to be cheerful and accommodating- the people at Casco Bay Inn were not in my experience. There is no elevator so be aware if you can't or don't like walking up stairs!
This review has many inaccuracies. First, this guest had indicated to me that if I did not refund her money for her stay, she would post a negative review. The reason for her request of a refund was a result of the hotel losing power due to a storm that affected not only Freeport but also four surrounding towns. To respond directly to this review, our rooms are far from old and dingy. When we purchased the hotel almost 3 years ago, the paint and wallpaper were outdated. Since then, we have been updating all of our rooms. We have one wing left to complete. Our A/C units have a high and low setting for the fan but the temperature control is variable from 60 to 80 degrees. Our front desk staff are quite courteous and friendly and often go above and beyond normal expectations to make our guests feel welcome. We have many guests who make their reservations through third party sites and I can’t imagine that one of our staff would be annoyed by that since they have no stake. Our staff may have suggested to this guest that if she had booked directly with us that she may have received a better rate. Unfortunately, we do not have an elevator so a one-floor walk up is necessary if you are on the second floor. We do offer our guests assistance in getting their luggage upstairs if they need it. However, we will always try to make first -floor arrangements for those guests that have difficulty with stairs. The Casco Bay Inn really is a great place to stay if you are looking for an independent hotel. If you read our reviews across all sites, you will find that this review is an anomaly.
