Oak Gables turned out to be an unexpected treat. It is a venerable Maine estate that harkens back to a different time with granite pillars at the entrance and a long curving driveway situated on the beautiful Damariscotta River. We stayed for two nights in one of the upstairs rooms in the main house with the bathroom down the hall,... More

Darmariscotta is a beautiful small town at the base of the peninsula that features the Pemaquid Light at its tip. It is in a Maine coastal area worthy of exploration. Oak Gables sits on an estate at the edge of town overlooking the river. The rooms are well furnished, spacious, and immaculate. Those expecting a private bath might be forewarned... More

This place looks to be an old estate on a piece of land that juts out into the tidal estuary; it's on a hill with slopes going down to the water. It's within easy walking distance of downtown also, and part of lovely historic neighborhood. The rooms are large and quiet. No traffic noise as it's well off the street... More

Hubby and I really enjoyed staying here. It was almost like being at home. Martha is such a gracious hostess. We stayed in the Studio Apt overlooking the Damariscotta River. It has a full kitchen, living area, dining nook, queen bed, full size bath and a private deck. Internet and cable TV are there. The grounds are especially beautiful. Great... More

We found our visit in mid-January a delight. The tourists are all gone and the bare naked winter property remains spectacular and is enhanced by a special quiet and peace. It's pleasant to stroll the grounds and an easy walk to town. Martha and her friendly companion, Dickens, add to the charm. We plan to return!

We stayed in studio. Very clean and private. Everything you need for a short or long stay. Beautiful old home. Martha the host is sweet and welcoming. It is a perfect place if you want peace and quite. Only noise was a few birds in the yard. .

Oak Gables was obviously an estate on the river. Really lovely grounds. Should be great for birdwatchers. Lovely back porch where you can watch the river. We stayed in the Studio apartment. Very big and very private. Nothing fancy, but very clean and nicely appointed without a lot gew gaws all over the place.

We've lost track of how often we've stayed at Oak Gables B&B in the beautiful little Maine town of Damariscotta. Our stay is always wonderful, thanks to our host, Martha Stoddert, her delicious hot breakfasts, the spacious yet cozy rooms, and the view from our window of the tidal Damariscotta River. Oak Gables is a grand 19th century house perched... More

Our week in the Cottage at Oak Gables is almost over and we are all very sad to have to leave. The cottage is a charming 3-bedroom, 2-bath cabin complete with full kitchen and comfortable living room withTV and wi-fi. Oh, yes, and an amaziing screened in front porch. The reason for the stay was for a reunion of sisters!... More

We strongly agree with every good thing other reviewers have said about Oak Gables. Only a few blocks from town center, it feels like a country estate as you enter the beautiful 9 acre grounds. We stayed in the Guest Wing, a large and beautifully appointed lower level suite, complete with a full kitchen and private bath. The Guest Wing... More
