It wouldn’t be fair for me to come to Quisisana for another year without writing my own review of this incredible spot in the Maine woods. My wife, 10-year old son and I have been coming to Quisi for the last 8 or 9 years and each experience has been wonderful and unique in the best of ways. My wife knew of Quisi from a childhood friend whose family came to the resort years ago. They painted a picture of an idyllic and restful lakeside setting with wonderful food, activities for all ages, and talented staff who put on top-notch performances each night. I was skeptical. Are we going stare at the same lake for a week? Do I really have to eat all my meals at the same time each day? Am I going to be happy trading Phish for Puccini for a week? I had been more accustomed to attending outdoor rock festivals in the summer than sitting for an evening of chamber music or musical theater in the woods, but I was intrigued by the idea of it and after my wife spoke with the incredible owner Jane on the phone, we were on our way. We were lucky to have friends accompany us on our first visit to Quisisana who also have a boy our son’s age (and they’ve returned with us each year since). We’ve watched our sons grow up together and develop their own special connection to this wondrous place. On our first day in the spacious dining hall, I had an odd feeling of having crashed a large family reunion. Couples and large families who had not seen each other since their visit to Quisisana the previous summer were greeting each other with a happiness and affection that was genuine and heartfelt. Despite us not knowing anyone else at that time (besides the family we were traveling with) we had an instantaneous feeling of comfort and belonging. We would soon make our own friends and acquaintances and be part of the family as well. I could go on and tell you all about how great the food is (yes, there is a Pavlovian response to the bell that’s rung outside the dining hall to signal each mealtime), how wonderful the performances are, how beautiful the lake is, how truly special the Oran’s family is, and all of the rest that has been so well documented in previous reviews, but that’s not my main point. What makes Quisisana special may be personal but it’s also universal. Quisisana, seemingly effortlessly, provides both a deep sense of connection to the natural world, and an opportunity to appreciate all the kindness and talents the owners and staff have in abundance. Over the years we've watched children grow, adults age, and families expand. We've experienced life here. The delicate balance of natural beauty, music and song, culinary arts, human activities, and social interaction is achieved to perfection here, making our stays at Quisisana both a sublime sensory experience and a deeply relaxing and spiritual experience.

What else can I say about Quisisana that hasn’t already been said by so many others?!? It’s a wonderful place to spend a week (or more) – whether you want to relax, take advantage of the activities offered, spend time hiking, sightseeing or shopping nearby … it will be a week full of memories to last until your next summer’s visit. Our week at Quisisana – summer 2018 – was absolutely fantastic. From the talented, helpful and friendly staff & performers, to the “beyond delicious” meals to the wonderful accommodations and the variety of activities, we had a wonderful week. Although I’d been there previously, it was my husband’s first year; he thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. We’re now looking forward to 2019. Give “Quisi” a try – you won’t be disappointed.

This was our second visit to Quisisana, and will not be our last...we hope to visit with our family each year for many years to come. Simply, there is no place like this: A warm and inviting summer escape on a magnificent lake in Maine that caters to the individual needs of each and every guest. Quisisana is an all-inclusive resort that is famous for a staff who are gifted musicians and performers. The secret of this place, however, is how warm and friendly everyone is, and how, magically, all of your needs are taken care of in an understated way, from the water sports to the meals to the performances each evening. There is nothing precious or pretentious about Quisisana. On the contrary, as many of the previous reviews have pointed out, your fellow guests for a week long stay (which is part of the charm) are mostly repeat visitors who are kind, understated, and smart people eager to welcome you. Above all, the Orans family, the owners of Quisisana, are ever-present, and welcoming in a way that exceeds any experiences you may have had traveling. The magic of Quisisana is greater than the sum of its parts; charming accommodations, great meals (make sure you have the waffles at breakfast and the Frozen Yogurt whenever possible), lovely evening performances every night, great amenities, and a breathtaking setting with many extra amenities (golf, hiking) within minutes. It is a week like no other, filled with frequent moments of tremendous gratitude. Let Quisisana cast its spell on you and the people you love. You will be glad you did. We are sad to be home, and already counting the 51 weeks until our return!

We (husband and wife in mid to late 40’s from NY tri-state area) visited Quisisana for the first time in August 2018. One of our parents had been going for years and had always raved about it. It is truly a unique and amazing place. As you can see from the website, it’s located on a beautiful lake. The accommodations are different from most places - you literally get your own private cabin. Also different from most resorts is that there is no TV or internet in the rooms/cabins. And because of the remoteness of the property, aside from the “lodge/check in area,” there is no internet or phone reception on the entire property. This actually makes it great as you are truly cut off from the world so you can really relax. As for activities, there are three tennis courts, and lots to do on the lake - swim, kayak, rowboat, etc. There are also hiking trails nearby. That being said, Quisisana is not the most active resort. It seemed like the majority of the guests were reading and relaxing during the day on the beach by the lake. What makes the place so special is the staff. Aside from the owners, the entire staff is made up of young people who are either in college or recent graduates, all who major or majored in some sort of performing art. Be it singing, or acting, or playing an instrument, the staff is immensely talented. So your waiter or waitress (you get the same ones for the week) and the person who cleans your cabin, and the people who work the waterfront, etc. all perform in the evening show - there is one every night. The talent is the real deal, and the performances were fantastic. Quisisana is also an all inclusive, so you get meals as well. My wife and I are not very picky, but most people seemed very satisfied with the food. What we also found especially interesting were the guests themselves. Essentially, they were for the most part extremely highly educated. Doctors, lawyers, etc. They were not exactly in the poor house, to say the least! That being said, these were not showy people. For the most part, they were very understated and polite. You got the feeling that if someone brought an entitled attitude that they would not be welcomed back. Which brings me to another point - most of the guests seemed to have been there before. Many had been coming for the same week, and staying in the same cabin for years. Many knew each other from the previous stay. And finally, many knew the owners, who went above and beyond to make everyone feel like they were part of the Quisisana family. There really were no negatives with Quisisana. The only possible issue would be if you got lousy weather - you would be in big trouble if it rained all week. But that is pretty much the same for any outdoor resort. Overall, Quisisana is what my title to this review says - a unique and special place.

This was our first visit here (Last week of July/1st week of Aug 2018), like everyone else we were there Saturday - Saturday. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there! My impression is that this is an Adult Camp. It looked like mostly couples, family reunions and groups of friends looking to spend a week together in a comfortable relaxed environment. Here are a few thing you should know. 1) the cabins are great! They have AC! And a screened in porch. We had a very comfortable king sized bed, and the bathroom appeared to have been renovated in the recent past. 2) there are many activities available. Kayaking, tennis, shuffleboard, paddle-boards, row boats, sail boats, and of course swimming. If you see a list near the front desk, look at the activity and if you are interested -put your name down. You can water ski, schedule a massage, go on a lake tour, etc.. 3) when you sit down for breakfast (8am-9:15) you are presented with the menu for lunch and dinner where you select your choices. But be aware they have alternative choices if the selection on the menu is not what you’d like. At lunch you can have burgers, hot dogs, or salads, and they always have a gluten-free & vegetarian choice. For dinner you can opt for a steak, grilled chicken, etc.. same with desert, they always have froz-yogurt, fresh fruit, ice cream, etc.. 4) in the dining room there is a short but carefully selected wine list available by the bottle or glass. They also have beer. Between 5pm - the dinner hour there is a small bar to have a pre dinner drink if desired. 5) the only place for WiFi is right near the front desk. There is very limited cell service at this location overall. This was not an issue for us, because each day after breakfast, we’d go to the front and receive all online messages, emails -etc. This forced us to basically disconnect, and allowed us to relax. 6) you can ask to have The NY, Boston, and a few other daily newspapers reserved for you. It was nice to read the actual paper instead of online for a change. 7) in the closet there were umbrellas + a drying rack for wet things, and we set it up on the porch. 8) there was a small refrigerator on the porch as well, and we used it to keep some bottled water cold. We spent most days reading on chaise lounges, swimming, enjoying the scenery, as well as meeting the other guests & staff. All the staff there were delightful. Many are studying musical theater and besides running the camp, were performing onstage at 9pm for that nights show. You will be surprised to see a polished performance each night!
