Cliff House Maine boasts impeccable cleanliness and stylish rooms with awe-inspiring views, often highlighted by guests for their pristine condition. The hotel's location is celebrated for its scenic vistas and convenient access to local attractions. While the service generally receives accolades for being attentive, there have been occasional calls for more consistent quality. Despite the luxurious spa and lively atmosphere enriched with live music, some travelers feel the hotel's high cost does not match the overall value, particularly noting limited food options and small bathroom spaces.

Generally I would say this property has a lot going for it. The views, the property location, the pool area, the buildings, the rooms, the landscaping are all top notch. Everything is updated, clean and generally well done. The service and attitude of every single employee was fabulous. Everyone had a greeting or a smile and were really pleasant.

But there are some areas where they could use some improvement, especially for the price of the rooms. This is a very expensive property.

For a high end resort I would expect better food service. Some things were good, but much of it was just meh. It was not up the quality it should have been for a high end resort--considering the prices were in line with any Four Seasons. Also, needing reservations for breakfast or waiting 25 minutes, seems like something they could improve. A Keurig coffee station on each floor with fresh milk was a very nice touch.

Sheets of polyester, while extremely soft and silky is a no no for such a high end resort. Poly doesn't breathe. We could tell.

The pool area is beautiful and well done--with the annoyance of people saving the best pool chairs, by placing towels and belongings on them near the best views very early in the morning--as early as 6 am, and then disappearing for a good part of the day while the chairs are saved. I wish there was a better way to handle this, but it seems consistent with many resorts.. Also in the area near the pool, next to the building where lights were on at night there were thousands of dead bugs (mosquitos) near that area and in the pool. My towel on my lounge chair very quickly became inundated with dead bugs. This is something that seems like it could be vacuumed up every morning to prevent this. Rather gross.

We were here for the weekend and there were two weddings while here. It was obvious that a large group of guests were here for the weddings, and it did not bother us, but we were very aware of the wedding vibes.

If you want to visit the town of Ogunquit, very nearby do so by the trolley that makes four trips a day. Parking in town is nuts as the town in late August weekend is very crowded.

All in all, I am not certain I would come again, but we had a very pleasant and lovely weekend.

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating our anniversary at the Cliff House! It was even more breathtakingly beautiful than we could have imagined, and the service was incredible! Everyone was so friendly and helpful! We enjoyed the Ice Bar event while we were there and even got to do a private oil painting class with their resident artist Ric! I’m so excited to take a piece of the cliff house home with us! We can’t wait to come back again. Thank you Cliff House staff and Ric for a wonderful weekend we will never forget! ❤️

There's a reason The Cliff House receives so many y5 star reviews: it's awesome from start to finish.
The hotel is spotless, the attention to detail amazing (in room air purifiers weren't lost on me!), the views astounding and the overall ocean chic vibe is wonderful!

We stayed two nights in the dead of winter in late January and enjoyed two stunning sunrises and the bonus of a bright sunny unseasonably warm days!

Our room was located in the Ledges wing ( best for sunrise over the ocean). We arrived several hours before checkin and our room was ready( big points here). Self parking was the only option and it can be a haul with luggage so we used a bellman (shout out to Victor) who was so welcoming and informative, giving us a few extra tips for an enjoyable first visit.

Ledges is located farthest from reception , the awesome main gathering area with a wall of ocean front windows, a beautiful fireplace and many seating options to enjoy the view. An underground passage featuring photos of Cliffhouse through the years and a gallery of local art makes the trek easy especially in winter. There is a movie theatre tucked in the passage showing family rated movies twice a day.
There is an indoor pool option as well as a year round large outdoor hot tub ( guests 13 and older) overlooking the ocean. The hot tub is busy... maybe too busy but you'll opt to give it a try for just the view alone. Robes and slippers are provided In each room. There are igloos overlooking the Atlantic near the hot tub as well as a large firepit with Adirondack gliders.

In winter, dining options include the Tiller with its " killer" views and Nubbs, a more informal option as well as in room dining. We enjoyed cocktails at sunset in Tiller which also serves as the lobby bar and can get quite busy if hotel is busy.
Weekend evenings, there is live music , a crowd pleasing duo this weekend featured a vocalist and guitarist playing hits from the late 60s-80s.

Beds were comfy, shower pressure great and a " beverage station" located on each floor with tea, coffee, as well as still and sparking water(loved those tiny ice cubes).
Staff throughout the hotel was first rate.

The Cliff House is a fabulous choice for a special celebration (thanks for the birthday treats for my hubby) no matter what time of year! Winter rates are lower and some nights have no minimum stay required.

We will be back!

Wow! What a review! We loved having you and your husband join us for his special celebration. It was our pleasure adding those small touches to ensure it was memorable! I too love winters along the coast here at Cliff House Maine and I am thrilled you could experience the crisp refreshing air along with the sparkling ocean views. The cliffs are quite majestic too! The history behind our establishment is extensive and we are glad you took the time to learn some of it before unwinding by the fire. I cannot wait to convey your high praise to our talented chefs as well as the rest of our incredible team. We are honored to be your "Maine" choice and hope it won't be too long before you return!

Our room was lovely with a view of the ocean. The price was more than $800/ night before RESORT FEES and taxes on the resort fees. There was no hairdryer in the room. The bedsheets did not stay tucked in and I slept on the mattress pad.. yuk. The in-house main restaurant served mediocre food at a very high price. The live music was so loud there was almost no chance to converse with the person next to you. The cleaning staff threw out my expensive dental appliance. When I asked for a manager I was told not only was he not on-site but they wouldn’t give me his email or a phone number but that”he would call me.” I was also repeatedly told there was no one with any authority to correct the situation but that someone would call me. The head of housekeeping was very responsive and her attitude was professional. She did her best to help me. She also had no authority to resolve the issue. I was able to get compensation by dealing directly with the resort manager the day after I returned home. I figured out who he was and his email by researching online. I appreciated the fair compensation. Based on my personal experience I would not recommend this hotel for the very high price. My suggestions are to retrain the front desk staff the treat their customers respectfully and to have authority to solve issues immediately, to have sheets that fit the beds properly, to rearrange the music listening areas to allow for conversation, and to review the quality of the food served in the main restaurant. My friend tells me the bartender was awesome.

This was my first time in Maine. I wanted to take my sister somewhere special for her birthday weekend, and I knew that she had always wanted to go to Maine. I chose the Cliff House because it looked stunning on the website. It was expensive, but again, I wanted to take my sister somewhere special.

It was only a 4.5 hour drive from westchester/NYC area. The people that worked there were friendly and accommodating. If you had a question, they really did go out of their way to help you. The resort is definitely gorgeous- the water view through the floor to ceiling windows the moment you walk in is stunning.

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but I would say to book the restaurant in this hotel for lunch or dinner and stay elsewhere. While the resort is beautiful, the price is not worth the value as far as resort activities and location. There is a nice pool and hot tub for adults only, which I love, because not everyone is there with kids. However, beyond the pool (indoor and outdoor), hot tub, and restaurants, there is not much else to do on the resort (they do offer some activities such as painting and movies, which we were not interested in). There is a free trolley into nearby Ogonquit/Perkin’s Cove. I had been very excited to go to this area, but was disappointed in how small it was.

The food at the Terrace and the Tiller was great- expensive, as expected, but great. Make reservations in advance if you can, because it books up fast. They were very kind to my sister and remembered that it was her birthday. The meal was lovely- we especially loved the charcuterie board.

Another thing to note— housekeeping comes at odd times. We had full garbages for about 2 days because they did not come at all during the day and then knocked on the door at 9 pm when we were already in bed. Once again, however, the staff was very kind and offered us chocolates and fresh towels when they saw that we were staying in for that particular night.

All in all, we had a great time. The resort had a beautiful view, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was great. I spent about $3,500 on the weekend (Friday to Monday) for accommodations (ocean view room) and food, including a $100 credit for the summer package I booked. Am I glad that I went? Absolutely. Would I book this hotel/resort again? Probably not- I stand by my recommendation to book a meal at this resort and walk the grounds a bit, but stay elsewhere at a more affordable price.

My wife and I booked a three night stay at this hotel for our babymoon on a recommendation from a friend. We drove in from Manhattan, arrived late for our check in so we were exhausted.

After checking in we went to our room only to find that is had ticks, gnats and spiders in it. Gnats we’re on our bed and when I stepped out to the patio to call the front desk we were swarmed with hundreds of gnats.

The front desk told me there was nothing they could do, they were fully booked but they would send me a maintenance guy to take care of them…when he arrived he had a towel and spent 10-15 minutes walking around the room trying to swat them out of the air. Growing frustrated he opened the door to try and push them outside letting in SO many more.

My wife called the front desk to complain again, the magically found another unit that was smaller than ours but with a better view. They promised that that it wasn’t an up charge or upgrade-lateral move in price.

It’s not 11PM and we finally get moved to our other room. We unpack and go to get in bed only to find that the bed didn’t have a bed fitted bed sheet, the flat sheet was just tucked in and the mattress was exposed. Nasty.

I called to ask for a fitted sheet and they guilt tripped me saying it’s industry standard to use flat sheets. Lie. Either way they FINALLY brought me a fitted sheet at 12PM…one with holes in it. (Pictures on wife’s phone if I need to upload them).

We went on with our trip and spent little to no time at the hotel. The food at Nubbs was nasty, chicken tasted old and expired and I didn’t trust their preparation of the lobster rolls.

Only good food was the food at the breakfast place overlooking the cliff.

To boot my wife and I were getting intimate the day of check out, didn’t hear anyone knocking on the door and a member of the cleaning services just WALKS in. BEFORE our check out time.

Upon checking out they charged us close to 3k. When we booked the hotel Is was supposed to be 700$ per night. Not 1k+

Currently working with our bank to fix this, I’d stay away from this hotel.

They also have an older gentleman working the valet service that refers to everyone as kiddo and it’s annoying/unprofessional.

We had a nice long weekend stay at the Cliff House. The grounds were beautiful and the room was well kept and clean. We loved having the beverage cooler and the hand sanitizer in the room was a nice touch. We loved the pillows (would love to know what brand they are to purchase). All of the staff that we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The views from the room were phenomenal and we loved the glass balconies to maximize viewing. We were in the Ledges building which did seem like a good bit of a walk to the lobby or parking lot, but not a big deal. The Maine stations on each floor were very nice and convenient for milk especially as we have a toddler. The cribs that the hotel provides are large and very nice-much better than a pack and play. The resort setup is a little disjointed, but not a problem. Housekeeping was limited but we didn’t mind. We ate at Nubb’s one night which was good but there are a lot of local options nearby. Unfortunately, the family pool was not open yet despite being later into June.

While we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return, I would have a few suggestions. For example, charging for a s’more kit when paying $800+ per night for a room felt a little nickel and dimey. Maybe consider giving one kit a night per family at least or even as a ‘surprise’ leave one in the rooms for kids at check in or put in room one night during stay with a note to warm up by the fire that night, etc . Little touches like this go a long way in setting a hotel apart. We also felt that the Maine station could have used some hot chocolate since one of our days was chilly and I’m sure that happens frequently. The coffee shop closed at 12 so we had nowhere to purchase a hot beverage other than the coffee k cups on the Maine station. We also would have loved more kid activities as we really only saw the movie theatre, pool, and s’mores despite seeing a lot of young families there. Perhaps there are more activities offered further into the summer though. Lastly, it would have been great to have some type of heating element on the balcony for cold days (although that’s a big ask but just something that we thought would be nice).

Overall, a great stay! We enjoyed ourselves but just felt like it lacked any special ‘extra’ touches that usually set apart a hotel in this price range. We would recommend the resort to others though and kudos to the friendly and helpful staff. We had a great stay thanks to your hard work and dedication! Thank you!!

My wife and I booked a week at the Cliff House from Sunday through Friday the week of Sept 26 for our anniversary. This property totally lived up to our expectations and made the stay a truly memorable one. We had a 7th floor ocean view room with fireplace and private balcony. The views are indeed amazing and we fell asleep each night to the sound of the waves below. The rooms are private and quiet and the house keeping service was environmentally conscious and very attentive. The nautical theme throughout the property is well done and the coffee bar on each hallway work well. It was so relaxing to be able to enjoy the outdoor heated infinity pool and hot tub during the day. We did not use the spa, but the work out room is clean and well equipped with 2 peletons, assorted treadmills and ellipticals and a myriad of weight machines. We also used the concierge to book golf at the course across the street. Our experience at the Tiller restaurant was quite good – the brunch is delicious with both “breakfasty” and more “lunchy” offerings and the local ingredient emphasis shines in their dishes. We had two dinners at the Tiller Restaurant and the food was quite good, especially the diver scallops and the bucatini with clams. The fresh fish was also delicious and the wine list had numerous solid choices. The seats along the windows have very nice views of the rocky coastline and the service was attentive and friendly. Room service one morning was on time and quite good. I must say though, the best dish on the property belongs to their Lobster Shack, Nubbs: the Lobster Totchos, (Tator Tots, Brown Butter Lobster Meat, Cheese Sauce, and Jalapeño Cheese Curds) are fantastic with a lot of lobster! The bartenders serving the resort are friendly and approachable and make a great rum punch. Yes, it is quite expensive, but the experience is well worth it if you are looking to relax for a few days on the southern Maine coast. In a word, Fantastic!

Came for four nights with our family (two kids aged 8 and 5.) The beauty of the setting can’t be beat. It is truly a breathtaking view. We stayed in the sleepaway bunk suite which is a great option with smaller kids.

Pros:
Variety of room sizes and layouts to choose from, easy to reach the hotel from either Portland or Boston airports, beautiful grounds, good food, nice spa. Well located to reach neighboring coastal towns for day trips.

Less positive:
Families can’t use the main pool that is advertised on all their social media images. Anyone with kids has to use the smaller, much less pretty cove pool. This was overcrowded as the hotel was full of families like us. The cove pool bar was out of most food items each day we were there. I’m all for adult only pools but am used to those being the smaller, quiet option where the resort pool is available to the majority of guests. This is a big gap in service, IMO.

We had to call and ask for housekeeping 2/4 days we were there. And one day, even though we called, no service was ever performed. Again, if you want to charge Rosewood like prices, the service level needs to be higher.

More variety of food menus would be appreciated.

I surprised my wife for our 14th wedding anniversary with a weekend getaway and it did not disappoint! It was our first time in Maine and the accommodations were spectacular and well thought out. The SPA is a must! From the helpful staff to the scenic views, The Cliff House is a special location in New England and in Maine. I would recommend making sure you plan your dinner reservations and SPA appointments well in advance as bookings fill up quickly. Thanks to The Cliff House for making our anniversary weekend special. Highly recommended!

Dear Ryan F., What a wonderful way to celebrate your 14th anniversary! It’s great to hear that your time with us lived up to your expectations and that the accommodations and spa added something extra special to the weekend. Thank you for sharing your kind words about the team and for the thoughtful tip on planning ahead for dinner and spa bookings. Nothing brings us greater joy than the possibility of your sails appearing on the horizon once more.

it depends what kind of food you like; Tiller's is a very nice restaurant with a view; if view is less important, but uniquely inspired menus are and you want something nearby, I suggest checking out Walker's for that meal
