Beautiful property, friendly and accommodating staff. . . but cleanliness is lacking - dirty diapers, used towels, and trash surrounding outdoor hot tub area; un-laundered napkins (lip stick) re-rolled with silverware; previous guests empty beer bottles and other trash items found in room. Plenty of staff on property at all times, so this issue is not for lack of staff to keep up with cleaning. My friends and I were just extremely shocked and disappointed, and even worse to get home and see multiple reviews with similar feedback.
We were somewhat satisfied with our previous stay. There was a massive disconnect between the COVID guidelines on the website and how they're put into practice. We were told to provide a negative COVID test prior to our visit, but nobody ever asked to see our negative test during our stay. We also saw several guests walking around the hotel without masks. Why weren't any of these requirements put into practice? Our most disappointing experience was the pool. Nobody in the pool area wore a mask. Guests would hoard all of the available chairs and move them into their own corners, so there wasn't really anywhere to sit. We never saw a single staff member at the pool to enforce any of the rules or check on cleanliness during our 1+ hour visit to the pool.
We had a great stay at the Cliff House Maine. We really enjoyed the Ledges Oceanfront room (spacious and great ocean view). We especially liked the Tiller restaurant. My wife and I had the steak and scallop entrees which were exceptional! The Maine blueberry cheesecake was delicious! The view from the Tiller was gorgeous! The hotel is very well prepared for Coronavirus precautions, so we felt safe.
My friend and I took our kids here for a mid-week splurge during school vacation week. We all had a blast. Accommodations were luxe and it is a gem of the Seacoast area (we live only a town away). Food was great (though first try at well done steak for my son was charred beyond recognition). It is pricey but we felt safe, all was clean and socially distanced, and kids loved going from outside hot tub to roll in the snow and back in tub. Having a mini build-a-bear experience was a great bonus too. All in all, we loved the rooms (spacious, clean quiet, awesome bedding and pillows), the food (both Tiller and Nubb), and the pool. Only wish the fire pit were open mid-day for some s'mores! We will definitely be back.
No heat in the bedroom......only a/c. The sliding doors do not close properly. Major energy conservation issue! The hair dryer didn't work properly. There was no extra facial tissue in the bathroom. The sheets on the bed were not tucked in. The bed was hardly made. There is a piece of air circulation equipment in the room with no explanation as to it's purpose or how to use it. There was nothing in our room to inform us of activities, events, etc. We were unable to get reservations for dinner. It was a major crisis in order to get an early check in in the midst of a winter storm. What is the "trade off" for receiving NOTHING in terms of housekeeping? Why were we listening to screaming children from the adjacent room. Based upon the rate that we paid for a special birthday weekend for my wife in what I thought was the best suite in the resort, I was incredibly disappointed. Your pricing is way, way, out of line in comparison to any other high end resort we have ever visited! Frankly, our experience boarder on being ridiculous. By the way......NO LIGHTS ON THE CLIFFS AT NIGHT?????? I stayed at the Cliff House decades ago and the night time lighting was one of the biggest attractions!!!! Overall....a grossly overpriced experience with little or nothing in terms of customer appreciation.…
