Inn by the Sea garners praise for its charming atmosphere and prime location near downtown Portland and the coast, beloved by guests and their pets alike. Its rooms are celebrated for being spacious and quiet, though a few guests suggest a need for enhanced cleanliness and updates. While the cleanliness and service generally receive high marks, with staff noted as friendly and attentive, there are occasional mentions of unresponsiveness. The hotel's value is debated, with some considering it pricey despite its amenities, which include a beach and pet accommodations.

The piping plovers were south for the winter, but the tumble of the waves of a winter ocean, and the soft sand remain for you and your fur family to frolick in. Jake at the Spa was wonderful. Mr Kellerman at the concierge desk was extraordinarily gracious. Compliments to the chef amd staff for delectable creations and whimsical seafood outside by the firepits, dutifully maintained by attentive staff. Basically, we would like to move in!

We have been coming to the Inn By the Sea for years. We live in Maine and always go in the off season. I have to say that I have very discriminating tastes when it comes to hotels and this place just gets it. The little details is what makes this place so great. The Turkish bath towels (the room had 8 towels just for the two of us), to the very comfortable bedding, to the hot cocoa bar in the lobby, everything is perfect. The front desk even gave us an upgrade when checking in. Even in the middle of February, the beach is just gorgeous. We especially loved the heated seat cushions and patio heaters where we could enjoy a drink outside. And we brought our dog and I loved how welcoming everyone was with our furry friend. She loved it too! Thanks for making a one night getaway just perfect.

We were a group of 8 friends taking a quick winter break; the property suited us perfectly. Beautiful vistas out to the sea, rooms were fresh and clean and well-laid out, and we liked every bite we ate in the dining room. The dining room and bar were just the right size - big enough but still with a cozy inn-like feel.

We do work in the area and often stay at the Inn while doing this work, and add-on a few days just to enjoy. We have always enjoyed the property, the staff and the restaurant, as well as the proximity to the beach as it is a short walk.

It is all wonderful except for the use of heavily fragranced cleaning supplies which bothered one person's chemical sensitivity with Headache etc... food is great. view is great . we rented a beach suite which has a mostly fully equipped kitchen ( no oven, not a lot of utensils or knives). Bed was so comfortable but the furniture in living space was mostly not.

Beautiful room with ocean view. Nicely appointed with Nespresso machine, carafes filled with spring water, binoculars, and even chocolate. A lot of attention to detail. Staff was also very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and latte were superb! Wished we had booked another night!

I highly recommend Inn by the Sea. We went for an anniversary trip in early February, not the typical time for a Maine getaway (Brrrrr!). But the inn is lovely and they offered a fun package where you could reserve a fire table with snacks, champagne, and heated seats. There is a spa onsite, as well as a bar and restaurant. We stayed in a Beach suite which was huge, clean, and had a fireplace, kitchen, dining area, and balcony. There are walking trails on the property (to the beach) and you are an easy 12-15 minute drive to Portland, so you have restaurants, shopping, breweries very close by. There was lots to do to fill our time at the inn, as well as really relax. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The inn is very dog-friendly - almost everyone had a dog except for us.

This is a very warm and friendly place. My dog and I enjoyed the kind hospitality of the Inn staff and other guests. The Inn is beautiful. And the location being connected to the beach by a boardwalk is very special.
