Great staff, food and property. We celebrated my wife's birthday this past weekend in Maine. We used the Inn by the Sea as a home base to travel to Portland, Baily's Island, Boothbay Harbour. We had a great time and a wonderful experience staying at the Inn by The Sea. Thank you again to Anne Bolton and her staff Eva and Sam for making it happen. we really appreciate it. Ron and Sara

The hotel needs to fix its reservation system. Even though we booked a room for four nights, we were told before we arrived that we would have to move rooms for the last night, and would need to be packed by check out time (10 or 11 am) and would potentially have to wait until 4pm before we could move into the new room. To be clear, while I have on occasion had to move rooms if I've booked two different categories of room, or because an upgrade was available for only some of my stay, I have never been asked to move when I booked a single room for a series of consecutive nights. After much argument, the hotel agreed that they would try to avoid our being without a room - i.e. we could move into the new room as soon as we vacated the old one. On checking in, however, I was told again that we would need to vacate at 10am and they would try to make a new room available as soon as possible, but by in any event 4pm. One wonders how far the hotel is willing to take this policy - could a guest be expected to move every day of his or her stay, and have nowhere to stay between 10am and 4pm each day? Again, after much discussion, the hotel agreed that we would not be required to vacate the old room until the new room was available. When we did finally move, the guy at the front desk told me to come to reception to pick up the new key, with no offer of help with the move. When I asked if someone could help, he very snootily told me that the bellman was assisting another customer but I could wait if I wanted to. I'm very disappointed and frankly shocked with how we have been treated at a place that purports to be a luxury hotel.

Dear 3192oliver: I was terribly sorry to learn that your recent experience at Inn by the Sea fell short of expectation due to a reservation made on line that included a room move. We try to avoid and limit moving guests whenever possible as we do understand it interrupts the relaxing vacation we hope to achieve for each and every visitor. We do apologize that we fell short of both your and our expectations for a seamless room move for you. If you would like to discuss this further, I would enjoy having an opportunity to speak with you. I can be reached at mbriggs@innbythesea.com, or 207.799.3134 extension 824. Best wishes Michael Briggs General Manager

This place was recommended by my trusted travel agent and he definitely made the best choice! We love it here! The grounds are beautiful well kept and open the staff and is amazing! Everyone was so helpful and thoughtful from check in and throughout our stay. The spa was beautiful professional and effective! Our suite is amazing. We are in a pet friendly loft suite and everything has been thought of-even a doggie dish and mat! I plan to return in the near future this place is great! Beach was a short walk and wonderful as well!

Beautiful resort, perfect location overlooking an ocean beach which is in walkable distance. Close to Portland and many family activities. We were a party of 4 adults and two children. We had a two bedroom suite which was the perfect size for us. Restaurant was nice, could use a few more selections but what we ate (one lunch and one dinner) was satisfying. Small lounge in the lobby- no bar stools only three tables was also satisfying. (there are seats out on the lawn, they were highly valued and hard to come by) All in all a fine vacation destination if you are looking for relaxation and time away.
