Property's Favorite Review
Where to start...we so loved this B & B! The location, the room, the breakfast, the coffee, the outdoor dining, the BREAKFAST (yes, I meant to type that one twice!) but our favorite part was meeting James and Gary. Seriously, we've traveled to a lot of B & B's all over the country and James and Gary are top notch hosts!!! From the warm greeting James gave us to the wonderful breakfast Gary would create, they are both creating an awesome experience for all of their guests. We stayed 3 nights here and we were sorry to leave, but we had reservations in Bar Harbor. The location is great, easy to walk into town for shopping, meals, cruises. Safe to walk at night and well lit sidewalks. Camden is a great town and we are so glad we stayed here. We would totally go back!

Gary & James take such diligent care of this beautiful, historic house and the guests that they welcome into it. Breakfast was made with love and full of flavor. The location is also great and it’s an easy walk to Camden’s shops and restaurants in any season. We look forward to a longer stay in the future!

The Elms of Camden is a beautifully maintained B&B within walking distance to Camden Harbor. James and Gary are attentive, lovely hosts who readily share information about what to see and do the the area. The website and follow up emails after booking provide tips on restaurants to make early reservations especially during the busy season. Primo and Franny's were great suggestions. Breakfast is wonderfully prepared and delivered with a smile. The few times we had requests, James and Gary were very responsive. We hope to return and repeat this experience!

My wife and I would like to comment on “The Elms” in Camden, Maine.
We are 73, of average health and weight. I am the taller, standing at 5’ 8”. My wife is 5’ 4”.
Our stay was pleasant enough with the exception of our room. We were relegated to a substandard, third floor converted attic. The Elms advertising did say “stairs” but these are not traditional stairs but rather makeshift very narrow steps of unequal treads and risers making them most difficult to navigate by anyone but especially anyone of our age. You literally had to climb these steps to the attic.
The room itself is a converted attic. You cannot sit up in bed to read, the ceiling is too low. After hitting our heads several times, we moved all the furniture closer to the center of the room. The same ceiling problems occurs in the bathroom. The wash basin does not fit in the bathroom and is out by the bed. The shower is so small, that if you dropped something, one has to step out of the shower to retrieve it.
I told the Elms owner that my wife and I were having a most difficult time climbing the “stairs” and asked to be moved out of the attic. The owner told me that they were full and quickly turned and left the room. The dining room was set for only two couples for breakfast that day.
My wife asked for a piece of toast instead of the breakfast. The owner appeared stunned by the request and only reluctantly made her a piece of toast. I had never seen such a reaction by any host in all of our travels. It was just a piece of toast.
Individually, these observations may normally be taken as inconveniencies, but taken as a whole, the room was substandard by any measure and certainly not worth the price of the other Elm’s traditional rooms and not as advertised. Their advertising does not reflect the true state of the attic room and is, at best, a series of half-truths. The owners should tell the public the true characteristics of the room and discount accordingly. Neither of which they are prepared to do and plan to keep defrauding the traveling public just to sell the room. We will not be returning to the “Elms” on our next visit to Camden.

Michael, We always appreciate constructive and useful feedback. However, in this case, your feedback is neither. We will respond with facts, as facts matter. You reserved two rooms with us, Lupine and Violet. We very clearly state Violet is on the third floor of the main house. I've added the URL for the room description for verification: https://www.elmsofcamden.com/accommodations/violet There is absolutely nothing misleading in our descriptions and we include no less than 5 photos for each and every room. If you failed to read the information or reach out with questions that mistake is not ours. It is ironic that we were told that, aside from the stairs, that the room was lovely the morning following check-in. When it was brought to our attention that the stairs were proving tiresome I kindly explained that there were no other rooms available, otherwise, we would have gladly switched rooms. We graciously accommodated the request for the toast, along with the special request for a different first course for Gary which you conveniently fail to mention. Neither of us recalls a request for the use of a microwave so I can't comment on that. It should be noted for anyone reading this review that we found it necessary to report you to the booking platform you used for Abusive Behavior, when at checkout, after 4 days of our hospitality, we were accosted with demands for monetary compensation for issues that would not have existed if you'd simply taken the time to read our room descriptions and view our photos before booking. It's a shame Julie and her husband did not offer you the first-floor room as you were the older couple. She booked the rooms and they chose the first-floor room. It sounds like the issue you have should be with her. Still, we wish you well, and as always, safe travels.

The Elms of Camden is in the ideal location to explore the town. We left our car in their ample parling lot and found it very easy to explore Camden on foot. My husband and I were in the Aster room and that was the perfect size room for us. We felt that The Elms had just the right number of guest rooms, which enabled us to get to know the other guests during the breakfast time. Gary and James both offered tips that only a local would know to get us off the tourist trail and eexperience restaurants and locations that we would have otherwise missed,

We had a fabulous stay thanks to owners Gary and James. This is a lovely B&B. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and cozy, and was conveniently located just off the patio area where breakfast is served. Speaking of breakfast...WOW! The breakfasts were outstanding! As good as any breakfast you can get at a high end cafe. Gary and James are delightful, accommodating, and informative! The rates are very reasonable, even during high season, and the location is great as well. Short walk (about 10 minutes more or less) to the harbor, shops and restaurants. What a truly wonderful stay! I would highly recommend Elms of Camden to anyone visiting the area!!

My boyfriend and I loved our stay at Elms of Camden! Gary and James were incredibly welcoming and gave us great tips and recommendations for the area. Breakfast both mornings were amazing and kept us full for most of the day. The B&B is just a quick 5 minute walk to downtown Camden and a great stopping point on our way to Acadia. We were slightly apprehensive about traveling during a pandemic, but we felt very safe with all the extra protocols that were in place. Would definitely stay again :)

We rented one of the cottage rooms. The B&B is on a main road that can be noisy, but we feel the trade-off is that it is a very easy walk to the harbor and restaurants. There is an outdoor sitting area just outside our room, where we enjoyed relaxing before dinner. The room was clean, and the king bed very comfortable. The two-course breakfast was delicious. Gary and Steve were excellent hosts

Staying at a B&B in Camden is a new experience for me since I lived in town through high school and summers during college but no longer have a family home there. I ended up at The Elms of Camden after searching the options and I am so glad I did. Gary & James were very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. The room was great - very comfortable and quiet (I had the Violet room which is larger than it appears on the website). The house is well located on Elm Street, just a short walk from the harbor and center of town, but far enough to be quieter than other places. The house itself is beautifully restored and charming, but the breakfasts are the highlight. The two course breakfasts I enjoyed on the two mornings I was there were truly wonderful. One day was warm and sunny so we ate outdoors on the patio, the other day was damp so we ate in the dinning room / common area. Both meals were memorable. The Elms of Camden gets my highest recommendation!

It was a pleasure having you with us and hopefully when visiting family in the future you will remember us...we'd love to see you again...and maybe convince your brother to join you for breakfast! Gary and James were so friendly and made us feel very welcome in Camden! They had great suggestions what to do/see in the area and also where to get food and drinks. The bedroom was very comfortable with everything we needed as well as the common spaces were well stocked for whatever we wanted, including homemade chocolate chip cookies! Breakfast was served daily on a beautiful garden patio and the food was delicious. I would recommend this B&B for anyone staying in Camden that wants something homey and close to downtown.
