El Dorado Maroma's serene and romantic atmosphere is a hit, although the poolside music and noise receive some flak. Guests laud the exceptional service, noting the friendly and attentive staff. The resort's cleanliness and stunning beachfront location on the Riviera Maya are frequently praised, offering a tranquil retreat. While the spacious rooms are appreciated, some guests find the decor outdated and dislike sales pitches for upgrades. The amenities, including diverse pools and dining options, receive acclaim, despite mixed feelings about the resort's overall value.

My boyfriend and I stayed here over this past christmas week. Overall it is a great resort and we had a very nice time. Here is how I would break the main things down:

Beach: we have been to 6 caribbean resorts now and this one had the best beach. Staff cleaned it every morning, super soft sand, no rocks, clear waters that even had small fish swimming around.

Food: the Peruvian place, the Caribbean Grill and the main buffet place by the beach were great. Mexican and Italian ones were meh. The restaurant by the over the water bungalows was delicious but we went for their christmas set menu and we felt the price was somewhat high for the food.
**NOTE one thing we found weird is the Mexican restaurant was only open one day a week and several restaurants operated solely on reservations which is a bit annoying considering people tend to not want to be on a schedule when on vacation

Nightlife: not much going on here. If you are looking for a resort with lively night entertainment and lots of people, you wont get it here. Most people turned in for the night by 9pm. The resort brought in nightly shows and performances that go usually from 8 to 9 and after that, it is eerily quiet.

Personal concierge/reservations: Was just alright. A ton of upselling here... more than other El Dorado resorts we have been to.

Room: we booked the basic room. No swim out or pool on the balcony terrace. We did not upgrade. The basic room was a bit plain and underwhelming and dark compared to other El Dorado resorts we have been to. We were fine with it because we spent most of our time outside but if you care about having a nice room, you will likely have to shell out quite a bit.

My husband and I originally wanted to go to Bora Bora for our honeymoon, but decided against it after realizing it would take two days just to get there! Instead, I googled Caribbean overwater bungalows and discovered the El Dorado Palafitos. We are SO glad we ended up going there for our honeymoon, and we don’t regret skipping bora bora in the least! The travel there was smooth and once arrived, we were welcomed warmly and treated with great care. The servers and the food at the palafitos restaurant were absolutely excellent. They blew us away every day. We loved our bungalow and all the activities at the resort. We took advantage of beach volleyball, room service, salsa lesson, cooking demonstration, live music, paddle boarding, and the nearby marina for snorkeling, jet skis, and parasailing — all of which were amazing. Girls, I would recommend getting your own jet ski though - riding on the back was terrifying and driving your own is way easier!

Although we loved our stay, a few critiques of note include: 1. The ocean water was not as clean as expected. Could have something to do with the time of year we traveled (October). There were staff out everyday trying to clear the beach of brown silt and seaweed. 2. The butlers made a few mistakes scheduling things for us and adhering to preferences we had selected for our room. 3. A word of caution regarding the members info meeting - instead of talking to us about joining for the one hour promised, we were held up for two hours and felt very pressured to join when we did not feel comfortable doing so at this point in our lives. 4. Many staff asked for us to make additional purchases and add-on services and that just got a little annoying after a while.

In summary, there were a few small disappointments and annoyances, but overall it was a 5 star experience which we highly recommend to honeymooners. We looked up the other Caribbean bungalows and still would rather return here. We talk often about going back someday. I hope my review will be helpful!

My wife and I have stayed at several of the Karisma Resorts on the Mayan Riviera, but this was our first stay at El Dorado Maroma. Like all of their resorts this one is definitely 5 star in most respects. The staff here are quite exceptional. Our Villa 12 butlers Liz and Giovanni were most excellent. Liz particularly went above and beyond what we have found from almost any butler at any resort. She made my wife's birthday very special with extra touches, and was always there to help with any of our needs. This resort is the smallest of the Karisma resorts and in that respect the service is a little more personal which many people we met really appreciated. The only things about this resort that I would say could be improved are the entertainment which does not measure up to the entertainment at any of the other Karisma resorts. It was pretty minimal and and on several occasions the schedule had it listed at the wrong location and the wrong starting time. As this resort seems to attract a little bit older crowd it may be that entertainment is not a high priority but it would be nice to have a little more live music nightly than we found. The food was as always very good, though again due to the size of the resort is a little more limited than you would find, say at El Dorado Seasides, or Royalle. But overall it was quite satisfactory. The beach here was exceptional. You can walk much further on Maroma Beach than at most resorts and the sand is very fine and you cannot find a stone anywhere. Very easy on the feet. They also put a lot of effort into removing the seaweed that has washed up on shore. On the other hand if you enjoy snorkeling and looking at fish and other aquatic life you will be a bit disappointed here as the beach and water are so clean and pristine that there is very little aquatic life close to shore. Overall though the resort is worth an excellent rating and we may seriously consider coming back.

This is more like a 3.5 star hotel at best, don’t be fooled by the high ratings, the price and know what you are getting, then you might be fine and love it like a lot of reviews say here.

I booked this after I was getting tired of researching. I saw the high ratings and number of reviews, glanced at reviews, and will be honest the price was very high so I figured couldn’t go wrong. I ended up finding a “deal” that made it even better; booking a $850 a day for half price.(“original” ad price was over $1000)

The resort is small which i prefer, the staff are nice as overwhelmingly supported by other reviews. The location is good, the beach is good. I see reviews about seaweed and smell but it was maintained during our stay.

Three main issues I had were : cleanness, “being cheap” like they are trying to save money as it’s all inclusive and up selling.

Since we checked in, the front of our room felt like a closet / cleaning area where the staff leave things. There was food from room service, towels, sheets, cleaning equipment left. My last straw was when I left for breakfast, there was a bunch of sheets outside our door with “throw up” - it was disgusting. The maid was there so I figured it would be cleaned up. We had a leisurely breakfast and when we got back it was still there. When I was ready to go to the beach the maid had decided to clean it up last and collected it right in front of our door. After I reported this, they apologized but no follow up, concern, and while no throw up was left, not much improvement. When we got back to our room, at night, next day, there’s still “stuff” laying around. It felt like a closet. Even at an Ibis I wouldn’t expect this let alone a 5 star ? vacation resort. I have pics but it’s disgusting so not posting. I showed it to the hotel “manager”.

I’m not an all inclusive fan but you don’t want to be hustled and upsold. You don’t want to feel like they don’t want you to order a lot. The food variety and ingredients were on the cheaper modest side.

I would like to say that problems happen but how management handles it matters. I see that “management” apologizes for bad reviews but my sense is that these issues are not addressed. They seem to have nice staff and regulars who probably value the “repeat” recognition they get from the warm staff and don’t feel the need to change.

I understand running a business can be hard; you should provide food and beverage quality and variety commensurate of the price / hotel star ranking , have a more tactful way of introducing upgrade options, and train your cleaning staff. In general, you have wonderful staff so I do think it’s the management’s responsibility to teach them what customer service is as most of the staff though nice, seem to have 1 role and if asked anything else that’s even relatively simple, they can’t handle it.

Lastly, small point but the packaging shape for the shower gel, conditioners etc were terrible, hard to get out.

What can I say about this hotel, from the minute you step into reception to the minute you leave for the airport, you are treated so well, all the staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you. Our Conceige's, Ruth & Oralia were amazing, booking our restaurants and spa sessions, and were just there if you wanted to stop and have a chat.

The first couple of days of our holiday we was a bit unsure, as there is no buffet restaurant for evening meals, just al-a-carte restaurants, so having stayed at other all inclusive hotels we were unsure how we would get on, as my husband, although not a fussy eater is not adventurous with food. However this was not an issue at all, the restaurants are amazing, and we have eaten some of the best food ever.
Papitos restaurant for breakfast and lunch is excellent, with staff being attentive to your needs and they soon get to know what you like, especially Chebina & Ingrid.

We booked a honeymoon junior suite and WOW, it certainly did not feel like a hotel room at all. very spacious living room area leading out to a balcony with views across the hotel and out to sea. the bed was so big and comfy, although quite high, so if you are on the short side it can feel like climbing a mountain to get in. Bathroom was well laid out and well lit, including an outdoor shower, It was kept spotlessly clean every day by Ana. Our room was on the top floor and there was 6 flights of steps up to the top floor, so if you have trouble with steps I would go for a lower floor.

Then we come to the beach, white powder soft sand, turquoise waters, plently of sunbeds & cabanos. The staff just excelled themselves in looking after us. From the beach butlers, Daisy, Eli & Enrique to the guys getting your drinks, Betsabe & Rene. Whether you want a glass of water or a cocktail to sun lotion or mosi spray, they are there with a smile. The entertainment team kept us entertained everyday with the 'question of the day' to watching the volleyball. Just wonderful.

We treated ourselves to a spa treatment and what a experience, walking into Naay spa you feel totally at ease, spending time in the hydro pools before the treatment is amazing and Jasmine & Herbert were attentive and professional in giving us our treatments. We spent about three and half hours in the Spa and came out feeling totally relaxed.

The hotel is set in the most amazing grounds with lots of vegetation and palm trees for shade, we even spotted a raccoon, anteater and iguana prowling the grounds. This hotel is all about luxury and relaxing.

I can honestly say this was one of our best holidays and we can't wait to return in 2021.

My wife and I had a great time. The grounds are perfectly maintained, the beach is perfectly maintained by a group of men who work from sun up till sun down cleaning up seaweed and moving sand. The pool was never overly crowded, and never did we wait for a drink at the swim up bar. The food is unbelievable never did we once have a bad meal at any of the restaurants. The only issue we had durning our stay was waking up to the sound of dripping water in our room, apparently a pipe in the ceiling had broke. We had a room on the second floor that had a private pool on the balcony. The staff wasted no time moving us by the time we got finished with breakfast we had been upgraded to a swim out room on the first floor. The staff was so apologetic about what happened that six days later they were still apologizing. Everyone at this resort goes the extra mile, the groups keeper, the bar tenders, the entertainment staff, the front desk staff I could go in and on. Upon check in the over the water bungalow was offered to us as a upgrade. We elected to do our last two nights out there, absolutely amazing definitely worth the extra money for the experience. This is a five diamond resort and you pay for what you get, we will definitely be returning in the future as we did buy in to Karisma’s exotic travelers club durning our stay.

This was our second time at EDM. We had high expectations as our trip to EDM in November of 2020 was nothing short of amazing. The entire hotel staff was incredibly friendly, genuine, and beyond helpful. Every single person you come across goes out of their way to greet you and ask you if everything is going well.
The food is incredible, and they have a good variety of options (traditional Mexican, Caribbean, Italian, and even Peruvian. There is also a Japanese restaurant on site (Kyoko), but it was getting some repairs while we were there. There's always the option to eat at Palafitos Restaurant, but it does incur an extra charge. There is no shortage of bars that you can either walk up to or swim up to. And be sure to look for Felipe , Rene, Salome, and Paulina; they are amazing bartenders and they are super creative with their craft (ask Paulina for one of her delicious Mezcalitos!)
The waitstaff is incredible! From those working the restaurants to the beach waiters, you will always have what you need. Too many to mention, but Noe, Dimas, Hector, Alberto, and Agustin are an incredible team at Papito's. Chepina, Marlene, and Marciela at Lima Limon always took excellent care of us.On the beach Carolina and Karen kept everyone's glass full! And if you ever just want to stay in your suite and relax, you can always order room service. The menu has great options, and all of the room service guys and girls work incredibly hard to make sure things get to you in a timely manner. We were lucky enough to have Arturo bring our room service orders; he always goes the extra mile to cater to the hotel guests.
Also, you can always relax, but if you want some excitement, the EDM entertainment team always goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone has a great time while mixing in some fitness and other fun activities. Go to Edgar's Yoga class in the morning, and you will be guaranteed to start your day out with some Zen. If you want some action, there's beach volleyball and pool volleyball every single day; multiple times a day!
Last but not least, the beach at Maroma is one of the best in the area! We have been to other hotels on this stretch of the Q.Roo shore, and while the beaches are beautiful all around, Maroma is the best hands down. The unspoken MVPs are definitely the guys clearing the sea weed!!! Those fellas work tirelessly to keep the beach clean and looking beautiful so we can enjoy it!
Saving the best for last... The Naay Spa. If you want a luxury spa experience, be sure to book a massage or a facial. here You will not regret it! Perla and Josefina are incredible therapists and you will give you a spa tailored to your needs.
I could go on and on about EDM. I'm already looking to book my next vacay here!
We cannot wait to go back!

Wonderful staff, food, accommodations and activities. Alex, Omar, Wendy, Ingrid, Jacob, Angel, Rafael, Fernie Baby, Rogelo, DJ, Juan, Enrique, Manuel, Eli, and Daisy are just a few of the staff who have gone above and beyond to make our celebration a wonderful experience. We love the food, the beach is beautiful. I am so glad they are doing what they can to prevent erosion and keeping the area beautiful and well cared for. A few hiccups with our celebration activities at the beginning but Jacob and Angel worked out all our reservations and activities perfectly. ❤️🍾🥰 Thank you. Special shout out to Daisy for finding us chairs and umbrella on the beach when it was so busy and to Omar for getting me on the volleyball court and Fernie for getting me to participate in Aqua fit class. 😂 Javier made our beach dinner wonderful as well as chef Manuel. Thank you.
Service at all the restaurants was wonderful. We really enjoyed the cooking classes as well. While sometimes the beach butler service was slow, we realized the beach was full of other people they were serving.
I wasn't able to get the names of the groundskeepers, but they worked tirelessly to keep the sea grass at bay. One of the days we stayed it was relentless. The rest of the 7 days the beach was beautiful.
I always read the negative and positive reviews before we stay somewhere and while i can see some of the things occurring, we did not have that same negative experience that some people did. Any time we came across an issue with our stay (which was only a couple) we brought it to the staff's attention and it was dealt with immediately. We are not travel agents or travel club members. We had the full understanding before we went that there would be an opportunity to participate in a travel club presentation and that some of the amenities were for travel club members. I think when you are unfamiliar with how things are ran at any destination you can have a bad experience.
We were treated as valued and respected guests and received some of the best service anywhere we've traveled.
Thank you for a wonderful trip and for sharing your beautiful beach with us.

What we loved:
+ Great staff, always with a smile and super welcoming
+ Very clean and tidy throughout the whole property, you really see the efforts made by the staff
+ Unforgettable beach, it was like a huge pool, it was cleaned constantly, we truly loved it
+ We had amazing walks on the beach, early in the morning and during sunset time <3

2 easy things to ameliorate:
- Since our arrival on Friday we asked concierge to help us with a simple change of batteries and a dental kit. We had to ask them 5 times for the dental kit, which was given on Sunday night and 7 times for the change of batteries, which was done on Monday morning before our check-out.
We understand you need to give priority to your members, but remember that guests who are not might want to become members one day. We felt not very much considered.

- People with food intolerances and allergies should be taken into consideration from the very beginning. Especially since they offer a gourmet experience with truly beautiful plates and lovely service in all the restaurants. It is important that once reservations for the restaurants are made (you have to reserve days in advance in order to make sure you have a table!) kitchens are informed straight away and ready with options once guests arrive at the restaurants. This would have made our stay even more amazing!

We will be back in the future also with the family because apart for these 2 issues the rest of our stay beautiful... however please dear staff of El Dorado Maroma, do take into consideration our 2 points above :)

Eldorado Maroma was phenomenal! The best vacation my husband and I have ever been on. 6 days 5 nights. It was our pleasure to be able to celebrate our 11 year wedding anniversary with such elegance and fun! The food was absolutely delicious, definitely gourmet! Paulo at Ricks Bar was the staff member that I will forever remember for a lifetime. The Chefs were even willing to make me my very own tiramisu without cinnamon since I’m allergic! They all went over and beyond to satisfy our every need and want. The events were a blast , Fire/light show, Mayan show and Casino night. The maroma family we have gained which was 3 other couples was the cherry on top for the whole trip. We spent our evenings getting to know each other at the events held and on the beach with our music and drinks.
Palafilos was an incredible dining experience for our anniversary dinner the steak and lobster was mouth watering delicious! The spa day was incredible. Both my husband and I’s first time having a couples massage together they made it so romantic and special.
One of the other really best features of this resort is they have an excursion location right next-door within like 100 feet where are my husband and I had the opportunity to swim with dolphins in a beautiful clean pool! The dolphins were really well taken care of and the protocol of the whole entire experience was perfect! They also have camel rides and pictures in the same location which is really cool I did want to do that when we return next time I will be looking forward to that! They are for kayaking paddle boarding parasailing mini boats deep-sea fishing an assortment of other things! There’s also a Starbucks on the resort. The resort is very well put together and placement is great everything is really close together very private. Not a far walk from one end to the other the design and layout is great! I loved that it was an adults only resort!
The staff was incredible they’re always willing to take great care of you and accommodate everything if you’re not pleased with some thing just say what is lacking and they will go over and beyond to fix it.
The downfall of the trip was the water had tons of algae which that’s not relevant to the resort because it was that way up and down the whole coast! The workers at the resort worked tirelessly day and night to clean the algae from the beach and ocean! We never stopped seeing them work which was impressive!

I will definitely be coming back to this resort in the future my whole experience food and everything is a five star 100% and we’re hoping to plan a reunion with the other couples that we met there to the same resort!!

Thank you Maroma for all the amazing Memories and new friends!

Neither one in that room categories' has a true ocean view. Your best shot would be the honeymoon suite. We did have one but it was in the distance and we got lucky since it was on a higher floor
