Our group camped for nearly a week in "section C" which is the tent only area across the highway from the main campgrounds. Section C although presented as a campgrounds is not. It does have a shower house with showers and toilets. The area really is a grove of trees around an open space the size of several tennis courts. Tent sites have no boundaries only numbered signs tacked onto trees. Each camper has to decide where the site is located. There are no tent pads but even worse there was not a square foot that was level or free of exposed roots. Our campers had to position their tents on grassy slopes or underneath trees on very lumpy ground. However this low rating is not due to this mislabeled campgrounds but is due to the manager of Bass Harbor Campgrounds. First he was unresponsive for weeks to emails and phone calls about reservations in September. Once we were set up, he complained about my changing of sites although that took only a few clicks by his office staff. (We had been assigned to damp shady sites but I changed them to sunny and higher sites.). He refused to provide a table for our improvised kitchen. But worse of all was his lack of maintenance of the toilets in the shower house. On Thursday, several toilets clogged up. He closed the shower house with signs but did not provide the four digit code for the main shower house. We had to ask other campers. On Friday morning, the toilets clogged up again and one overflowed. The manager then confronted four of us saying that the problems were due to "we were using too much toilet paper". He then threatened to close the facility - and to bill us for the service call of a sewer company. The ranking of this manager and his business is as low as possible due to his actions. In my decades of organizing outdoor events all over USA and Canada, I cannot recall dealing with anyone who was so offensive. He lacked any professionalism normally found in business men and women who provide goods and services to the public. I would urge everyone to avoid during any business with Bass Harbor Campgrounds.

We are doing the right thing and staying home after being made aware of a close contact with a positive covid case. We are cancelling our reservation in order to do our part and keep everyone safe and healthy. The campground manager refuses to refund our deposit claiming it is under the number of days to cancel. They are more concerned about money than health and safety. In other words, we could come and camp and be in close proximity to any and all Bar Harbor tourists, residents and employees and spread covid as we go as far as Bass Harbor campground is concerned. Campers beware!

We stayed at this campground during our tour through Maine. It is close to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. The tent sites are level, clean and ample. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Affordable. Parking in the tent site was easy. Nice family atmosphere.

So last night was our first night of 15, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The campground is full and yes the sites are quite close. But for the most part, people are respectful and reasonably quiet. I haven’t heard a peep from the couple on one side of us. The other side is a family with several very young children. They could definitely learn from the other couple about how to keep their voices down. Thankfully, they quieted down after about 9 pm. The pool is very well kept and clean, as well as the laundry room and restrooms. One area of concern is that the “noosyy” neighbors’ first pit is only about 3’ away from our camper. An irresponsible fire maker could potentially cause fire/heat damage to the side of a neighboring camper.

Stayed there for three nights with our family. Picnic tables were broken, there is no quite hours enforcement at all, and the bathrooms were disgusting - looked like they haven’t been cleaned in a while. We also booked the potting shed for one night and let me tell you, it was dusty, musty, and full of insects, spiders and spider webs. That cabin was supposed to be cleaned after the last guest left but when we arrived it was a mess! On top of that, since it was going to rain during our last night, we decided to get a yurt for my dad. Upon arrival, we saw a huge leak from the ceiling and tons of water on the floor. We moved the bed and went to sleep. Didn’t even complaint about it. Tried to use to coffee maker the next day and it was broken, along with a heater ( which they never used) Anyway… avoid this campground at all cost. I rather sleep under a bridge than staying at this dump. We have camped at hundreds of campgrounds over the years, and this was by far the worst ever! I have also stayed at Airbnb’s and VRBO’s all over the world and leave fair and honest reviews since I also read them all before booking my stay. Unfortunately, this year, this was the only place with availability for our dates - now I can see why!

My family stayed three nights here in early August at one of the deluxe tent sites. We absolutely loved this campground! The facilities were spotlessly clean no matter what time of day. The showers had strong water pressure and plenty of hot water. At night we were astounded by the quality of the night sky here. Countless stars were visible and we saw several meteors streaking through the heavens. Staying here puts you very close to several great coastal trails that are much less crowded than those on the Bar Harbor side. The crowds at Acadia were crazy this summer, but this campground was like a peaceful world apart.

I had read so many reviews, some good some bad. I know too that you can’t make everybody happy. We loved our stay there which was 9 days. Check in was so easy. They don’t have a lot of FHU 50amp sites so you have to book early to get one of those. Sites 502, 503 and 504 are the best with. FHU 50amp pull thru. Site 501 is a volunteer site. Laundry is right there at those sites and they had 4 washers and 5 dryers working and only $2.00 to wash and $1.00 to dry! The bathrooms were always clean when I went in. Bass Harbor campground is walking distance to the lighthouse. Plenty of great places to eat near by, Ketch, Maine-ly Delight, upper Deck and Charlotte’s.

The site next door had the most inconsiderate people we have ever seen. Loud talking and driving in and out of the area ALL NIGHT LONG. No control from campground personnel at all. Decided to leave site early due to issues and was denied refund. Absolutely avoid unless you don't need sleep!

Love the setup here. If you're expecting luxury, you're Googling wrong. This is a campground and as those things go, it is great. We put four older boys in a cabin (#7) instead of having them camp as they were spending their days climbing and it was perfect low-frills, no stress living. Meanwhile we stayed in a yurt on the other side of the main campground and it was just delightful, charming lights, great set up. The beds were reasonably comfortable, the grounds and the bathrooms clean, the propane grill worked (there is a fire pit too), and the pool delightful. Everyone staying there seemed friendly and respectful and it was quiet. The lighthouse is a short walk away and while Bar Harbor and Acadia might seem far, they really are not and the traffic was never bad. We'll be back.

We booked site 144, which looked decent online. We were wrong. In the pic on the website, the firepit is not seen, we discovered this is because in the pic, the picnic table is either on top of, or right next to the firepit!! There was really no where to pitch a tent w/out putting it out of the boundaries of the site. There is really no privacy between the tent sites near 144 (although the people there were quiet and nice). What really made us leave, was that the trash dumpster, which was one site down from us, and Completely overflowing and smelled horrible. Apparently they were having issues with their trash company (said the girl in the front), and she didn't know when it would be emptied. I wasn't looking forward to the rummaging rodents in the night! Also, (my fault), when looking at the map, I thought a camp road ran between the two sides of the camp, but it is the main road, which we would've been right next to. We have always stayed at State parks and have never had an issue. For me, this place was very disappointing. Be wary of the pics of the sites...
