So tranquil with a beautiful view of the ocean with spectacular sunset (when there is no fog). The north suite was bright and cheery and comfortable. We sat on the deck to eat our meals prepared in its kitchen and ooohed over the view. Lobster boats puttering and blue water. Don’t expect luxury but comfort. The lower level has extra supplies and an endless choice of DVDs and VHS tapes to borrow. We loved making campfires in the ring with wood and the starter provided for us. Bailey Island is a hidden gem!

Visiting Bailey Island we took advantage of the 2 hour sail aboard the Schooner Alert. It was likely the high point of our New England vacation. Bethany, Perry, and their two daughters made up an outstanding crew. Knowledgeable, a great sense of humor, and a truly welcoming attitude only added to the joy of this trip. We had a beautiful afternoon for sailing, and would highly recomment this activity for anyone visiting the Bailey Island area.

This was a great quiet and safe way to vacation. Our hosts Donna and Les were nice people. The cottage was a bit dated and could have been better cared for (screens broken, sills full of bugs) but the little touches made it worthwhile. Firewood for your fire pit, grill and literally your own backyard to watch the most incredible sunset ever!

Four of us rented two Sea Escape cottages for four nights. The cottages are no frills, but have all of the basics and are a good value. They are clean and comfortable, and it was nice to have a kitchen so we could make some of our own meals. If you prefer to eat out, I would recommend that you try the small restaurant that is part of “Bigs General Store” or the Fishnet Cafe right next door. Both are just a few minutes walk down the main road.
The cottages have a wonderful view of the harbour, and we really enjoyed watching the lobster boats in the morning. If you would like to get out on the water, try one of the tours that Sea Escape offers on their schooner “Alert.”
Overall, this was a very peaceful vacation at Sea Escape cottages.

Don’t be put off by the road to the cabins. It’s a bit on the industrial side. The cabins themselves are homey and comfortable and having a full kitchen is a plus, especially for a leisurely breakfast. Sit on the porch and enjoy the wonderful view and gorgeous sunset.

dark and dank little cabin that was moldy and musty. It looked like they had not changed the decor in forty years. the carpet was stained and there were bugs everywhere. zero customer service. they completely ignored my text when I needed them to repair something. you would be better off renting an Airbnb. you would have a much better experience.

What luck, we had the opportunity to sail on the sunset fireworks trip with captains Bethany and Perry on the schooner Alert during Booth Bay harbor Windjammer days this year. And mates Martha and Calypso and Joe. It was a fun experience with the bonus of our 7 year old grand daughter Lucy hanging out with their daughters, what an experience for her!
Bethany and Perry are such great pirates!
Priceless experience for a four generation family, thanks!

I was surprised to see that I am the first to review this property. I guess those who have been enjoying it for years want to keep it a secret and I don't blame them!
I came upon Sea Escape Cottages rather by accident. My husband was away on a week's business trip. It was so hot and humid in Ct that I decided to take myself on a solo adventure somewhere less humid. I have always been fond of Maine but hadn't been there in a dozen years. I decided to go to Bailey Island which has a special place in my heart. Being the last minute I looked for reviews of lodging on Bailey Island and read some glowing reports briefly (too briefly) of an Inn on Bailey Island. I called and reserved a room for four nights. The Inn turned out to not be my cup of tea when I checked in and I immediately went out in search of new digs. The first place I came upon was Sea Escape Cottages so I stopped to inquire about a vacancy. It turned out they had a cancellation and were willing to rent it to me for three nights. They have seven different units they rent weekly Saturday to Saturday-four cottages and three apartments--all with wonderful water views!. My "cottage" was not pretentious but cute and well maintained. It had two bedrooms, full kitchen and bath and a living room with wood burning stove. It also had a small front porch, grille and lawn furniture in front. I felt very comfortable there immediately. The star of this place is location, location. It has the absolute best water views with Harpswell in the distance. The sunsets are spectacular! You can sit and watch all the lobstermen bringing in their catch, spot the ferry passing by, sailboats etc etc. It is truly picturesque and very very quiet! The cottages are situated in such a way that you feel very private as well. The huge lawn in front of the cottages is well maintained with a gazebo for shaded relaxation, and a large deck with stairs down to the water. There is a coin operated laundry on the property and the most friendly helpful owners you will ever meet. I think the owners, Les and Donna McNelly, are key here. They aim to please and insure a great vacation for their guests. They clearly take great pride in their property and it shows. At least once a day they checked to make sure I was comfortable and not in need of anything. Les even brought my lobsters to my door for me along with a little lesson on lobsters and specific cooking instructions and a bucket of salt water to cook them in!! And what a bargain they were! If interested Les offers charters for sightseeing and fishing and their daughter Captain Bethany offers sailing lessons or day outings on her boat. Sea Escape guests are offered a 20% discount.
My next door neighbors told me they had been coming there for fifteen years which in itself says a lot. This place is great as a base to take day trips and explore or as I did just relax, read and devour the view!
Bailey Island has remained essentiallyt the same over these many years since I last visited. It is quiet, beautiful, charming and devoid of tourist crowds. Sea Escape was a great "find" for me and I sing its praises!
Helen

We have friends that live on Bailey Island and they recommended Sea Escapes. The owners, Donna and Les, are nice folks with all the character of a "down-Maine" novel. The cottage we stayed in was small and cozy, with an intoxicating vista of the Maine coast. Working lobster boats always in view, zigzagging through the many buoys to find their own designated pots.
There are several very good restaurants nearby specializing in the local offerings from the sea.
Our 2 small dogs were welcome and they loved the grounds. They have several group fire-pits that tend to bring guests together. We are from Connecticut and met wonderful people from New York, Illinois, New Jersey and New Hampshire.
If you're seeking a real Maine coastal experience we highly recommend Sea Escapes Cottages.

I had never traveled to Maine before, and my friend stumbled upon these cottages. What a wonderful, mom and pop run business. There are so many places to sit and relax. We had an upstairs unit with two bedrooms, slept 4 and WOW what a view from up there. When the fog cleared, it was so incredibly "New England" with the Fall colors, and the homes across the water. It was perfect! If you want a truly Maine experience, with lobsters at a nearby harbor to pick-up, this is the place for you. The cottages even provide lobster buckets and information on how to cook them for the newbies. I don't enjoy lobster, but the experience was one to write home about. Don't forget to say "Hello" to Duke, the cottage dog that likes to play fetch and roam the property. He is adorable! Travel out a bit to the end of Bailey island to the store "Lands End" for some fun things to buy and bring home to friends, great prices too!
