We decided to nip in for lunch but I think we caught them on a bad day. Our focaccia was really hard (on both sandwiches) and had to go back. Although they were replaced, it did feel begrudged. Our onions rings were dire. Although the manager said they'd be removed from the bill, they weren't. The decor is lovely and...

The Inn is centered on a historical theme carried throughout the building, and sits next to an iconic landmark the Forth rail bridge, so expect trains and associated noise. It's an old historical building full of character, which is kept to a very good standard, and housekeeping is on a daily basis. The food is of a high standard, and a...

Another great night staying here. Love the location booked a family room which was huge and clean. No view but wasn't looking for one so Happy with room. Good check in even when they were busy. Breakfast in morning well organized by Lee and plenty to offer with continental or cooked. We love this place so will be back

Staff were very friendly and found us a table for 4 no problem then we're lovely when we asked to swap to a seat with a view. The young man that served us couldn't have been more helpful. Not the fastest service but very nice staff. We will keep going back.

We stayed over on 27th January. Arrived at tea time and room (3) was lovely and warm. Bedroom was massive and the everything was spotlessly clean. Very comfortable bed and great shower. Price excellent and all the staff were welcoming and friendly. Cold breakfast included in price (+ toast) but we upgraded and paid for two cooked breakfasts. Lee in...

Second time staying here for 3 nights and again had a lovely visit. All staff are so pleasant and helpful. Early January can be a dull time but not at the Hawes Inn. The rooms are warm, beds are so comfortable and the place is spotlessly clean. The Restaurant is warm and welcoming with a lovely varied menu to suit...

This is a great place to stay, very friendly and helpful staff. The room (5) at the front of the hotel was spacious, very clean, relaxing and warm whilst offering great views out to the Forth and of the bridges. The shower was one of the best I've experienced in a hotel room. Okay the room was a bit much...

Had a very nice stay in room 3... The wardrobe door unfortunately fell on my partner .. needs fixed. Very unusual to find second set of towels in wardrobe? Did not understand that one. Breakfast was continental, which was very nice. Staff were very friendly. Private car park a bonus. Stayed in room 1 previously, will ask for that room...

Right under the beautiful railway bridge so has superb views but is noisy alongside it. Good sized room and good shower but had to walk outside to get in/out of the main bar/restaurant area and stubbed out cigs and recycling bins lower the tone a little. Friendly people and a decent breakfast, i did not eat in the restaurant.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Few hotels in and around Edinburgh can match this lodge for its views or place in literary history. Many of its 14 cosy rooms look out over the iconic Forth Road Bridge and the Firth of the Forth estuary, and it's said that legendary author Robert Louis Stevenson wrote part of his famous novel Kidnapped here - there's even a mention of The Hawes Inn in the book. Just 10 miles from the city centre, the South Queensferry lodge is an ideal base for visiting Scotland's historic capital, where you can explore Edinburgh Castle, the shops of the Royal Mile or the city's many museums and restaurants. Also perfect for golfers, it's within striking distance of Carnoustie and St Andrew's and close to the birthplace of golf at the East Neuk of Fife. The Tudor Gothic Dalmeny House and Georgian Hopetoun House are also well worth a visit. ... more   less
