Stayed two nights. Received incorrect key and had to return to get correct one. The rooms have three types of keys. Cottages are very nice. Garden House is musty, and furniture needs repair. Would avoid it! Grounds need maintenance. Mansion is beautiful and docents are excellent. Food was delicious. Gift shop hours are erratic and front guest personnel gave conflicting info. Hopefully, the place will return to its former grandeur.
Worst $250 room we’ve ever had. Paid for a Mansion Deluxe. It was not in mansion, or deluxe - it was Room #3 in the “boys annex/wing”. Dirty and dusty, dripping faucets (newer, not old), dead bugs, tiny bed. The whole property needs upkeep. This was a special anniversary trip, and I was so upset I didn’t even want to eat there, but had a drink in the bar when it opened at 5pm (we were told last call is 8:30pm). Was so glad to leave the next morning! Staff avoids all eye contact, interaction (we wandered around looking for room, then bar) and at checkout they do not ask how your stay was, very telling… Do NOT waste your money unless they guarantee you will get the room paid for!
My wife and I stayed here in April 2022 for one night as part of a longer vacation to southern Louisiana. The grounds here are very well kept and absolutely gorgeous. It is so peaceful and quiet; the grass was lush and green, the pond is inhabited by turtles and croaking frogs, the oak trees are beyond words to describe their beauty. I can see how thrilling it would be to have a wedding here. The house is stunning from the outside; large and opulent, but could have used some TLC in places. We stayed in the Cornelia Randolph room in the main part of the mansion; not the Boy's Wing. Our room was very large with high ceilings and a modern bathroom. You can find pictures of it online. It was a very nice room to stay in with views of the Mississippi River. The house inside is amazing; even more so that we had free rein to walk through the rooms of the house whenever we wanted. The restaurant had very good food and our service much better than average. It was priced right for the quality and portions. The stay here was definitely a high point of our vacation, but there were a couple bumps in the road; maybe caused by Covid, maybe not. (Covid shut this place down for a while, but had been open for 3 1/2 weeks by the time we stayed here.) Without going into specific details, we would say this: communicate well with the front desk as to which room you will be staying in; communicate directly with the restaurant to make reservations if you need them (the front desk might say you don't need them, but the restaurant might say you do). Then make phone calls again to double check your expectations before you go there. Once there, if you have problems, check with the front desk; they were really pretty good about fixing issues. We truly loved our stay here and would do it again.…
I visited Nottoway for the purpose of taking Bridal Portraits. From the very beginning, staff was friendly and helpful getting everything set up. With COVID-19 closures, I had to move my scheduled appointment several times, and was always met with someone knowledgable and extremely helpful. On the day of pictures, Courtney called an hour ahead of our arrival time to make sure we had her contact information upon arrival, and to let us know she would be available. She helped us get settled into a changing area, and stayed attentive without crowding our space. The grounds were beautiful and everything was very clean and well kept. I plan to visit again for a stay next time, because it seems like the perfect place to get away and enjoy a beautiful landscape.
Nottoway out did themselves! Maddie made our wedding day come together exactly how we wanted it to! It was such a magical experience. The grounds, food and accommodations were outstanding! I can't wait to return for our one year anniversary!
By all means go and tour this huge, wonderful plantation. But I'm sure you can find more comfortable places to stay, although maybe not for the same price. Our room in the boy's wing was old and drafty and up a lot of steps. They do help you with your luggage, however. The restaurant was poorly staffed with the same person functioning as the bartender and waitress. There seemed to be only one waitress for the entire restaurant. The food (dinner and breakfast) was just ok. Perhaps the cottages would be a better choice because they may be newer.
We went on a weekend girls trip to see some sights. Nottoway was amazingly stunning! The tour, the restaurant, the hosts were completely open to making our visit memorable and a visit into history We would return in a heartbeat, maybe this time with our husbands
The people who work here are really nice, but the people who own this place need to come visit and bring a checkbook. Many areas of the property need repair and replacements. The staff who are there can only fix. If you are looking for a nice place to have dinner I highly recommend the restaurant the food is great, but if you’re looking for a nice room you’d be better off at the casino.
A+++++ recommendation - I recently visited Nottoway with my 6 year old son. He was enamored with the plantation and grounds. Arrived a little late for the walking tour, however we were immediately offered the audio tour. Wasn't sure how my young son would like the tour, however he was thrilled with the story in the voice of Mr. Randolph. The grounds were immaculate, we enjoyed strolling along the paths by the pond. We felt very welcomed by the staff. The rooms were large, clean with very beautiful furniture. Great value for the price of the room, very reasonable.
The lady at the desk was very nice and helpful. Room was very clean and spacious even for our family. Beautiful place. Very quiet stay. Wish we could have stayed longer. The only negative was that it was not very close to fast food restaurants, but that is part of the experience, being away from all the hustle and bustle. Loved it and hope we can come again.
