Bed & breakfast accommodation in beautifully restored Gascon 18th Century coaching inn. Pool, gourmet meals, country walks, peace and quiet.

Jouandassou is situated in a very unspoilt region dominated by farmland between the small town ofTrie sur Baise (famous for its rugby team) and the village of Fontrailles (140 inhabitants). You will appreciate the peaceful surrounding Gascon countryside and the mild climate all year around. The region offers numerous nature activities (country walks, bike rides, birdwatching, fishing...) As well as the gastronomic pleasures of Gascony (foie gras, armagnac and the vineyards of Madiran).

After corona restrictions this year we decided to have a holiday close to home and followed the recommendations to stay with Nick and Dominique in their mini paradise. We were not disappointed! Our kids loved the pool and grounds. It's very quiet, the rooms are comfortable and the food is delicious!! We ate there for three nights in a row and loved it. Nick is a much better cook than any of the local restaurants in Trie sur baïse and the price is also unbeatable. Highly recommended.

Jouandassou was a most pleasant surprise for our family (my wife Gail & I and our Daughter Catherine and Son in Law Darrell ) even though it was highly recommended by friends. Our hosts Nick and Domenic Collinson were the very best in every way. Nick was the Chef and Domenic our tour guide for the Pyrenees. We stayed at Jouandassou for four wonderful nights, had fabulous meals, lots of local wines and toured around the Pyrenees under the guidance of Domenic. The rooms were clean and cosy and the hospitality outstanding. The touring highlight of our stay was the visit to Pic du Midi the highest point in the Pyrenees. Luckily it was a clear sunny day and we could see for miles in all directions. We all left Jouandassou with heavy hearts and vowing to return the next time we visit Europe.

What a place to relax and enjoy the French countryside with the Pyrenees for a backdrop. This ancient building oozes charm and peacefulness. The gardens are gorgeous. Great pool. Run by English husband Nick and French wife Dominique who both love to serve up mouth-watering meals. Charming village 10 minutes away. Very comfortable rooms with all amenities. Can't praise it highly enough. Had a great holiday there and will certainly be back.

Jouandassou has charm and character in abundance - and that includes the hosts! Both Nick and Dominique are fluent in English and French, and Nick is a wonderful cook who bursts into song, accompanied by his guitar, at random moments. The building dates from 1707 and Nick and Dominique have kept as much as possible of the original, which means that everywhere you look, there is interest, character and general amazement. They run their house as either a gite or a b&b. We took it as a gite and so had all four bedrooms, which came with a kitchen and a dining room plus use of all the outside space - and wonderful pool which is both warm, clean and chlorine free (it tastes mildly salty). All the rooms are decorated in a different style, all done by Dominique, all lovely - really hard to choose a favourite. Two bedrooms are accessed by one staircase, and two by another, but join through a lockable door. All are en suite, and all the en suites are lovely, at least two with large, walk in shower cubicles. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly with lots of help when you need it. The nearby town of Trie has everything you need, including old water bottles refilled with wine at 2.20 euros a litre. Further away are the Pyrenees, and a host of visitable chateaux and old churches. And Spain is not far either, where tobacco, local pottery and olive oil are very cheap. Come with a car, take advice of places to visit from Dominique, drive some days, relax in the grounds on other days. Heaven.

Owned and run by an Anglo-French husband and wife from Paris, who live on site; this is a charming chambre d'hote (B&B) just outside the village of Fontrailles and close to Trie-sur-Baïse. Some years the Tour de France passes the end of the road - so it's great for cyclists and also walkers, gastronomes, birders, artists and families. Gastromic treats can be arranged if requested in advance (M Nick Collinson, le proprietor, is an fine and eclectic chef). I've been there at least six times and will be returning.... Nearby airports are Lourdes, Toulouse and Pau; and fast trains from the UK stop at Tarbes.
