The family-owned Carmel Inn and Suites has been making guests feel at home for over 47 years with wonderful hospitality and comfortable accommodations! Surrounded by large oak trees and southern mansions along Bayou Lafourche, the Carmel Inn is built at the historic landmark site that was once a Mount Carmel convent and school, dating back to before the Civil War. I wanted to give 3 stars rather than one because I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and rather enjoyed the experience. The unfortunate thing about reviews is that most of us only write a review when it's a bad experience instead of when it's good. This time I had the unfortunate luck to get a room pool side where after a long night and looking forward to sleeping in, I was woken up several times after trying to go back to sleep, by the sounds of what could only be described as freight trains rolling past my window repeatedly. I understand this hotel is old and this may be one of those things you don't think about, but please consider changing your wheels to a quieter kind. In the other rooms that I stayed in, the a/c unit has always been below the window which helps to dampen the noises, but this room in particular, had it's a/c mounted on the back wall. My suggestion to anyone staying here, if you book a room and are a light sleeper, request street side. Pool side sounds like a busy train station.

Thank you Jennifer for your review. Sorry our house keeping equipment woke you up. On weekdays and weekends the the housekeeping staff does not start till breakfast service is over, plus fifteen minutes. They start 9:15AM on weekdays and 9:45 on weekends. If you took a street side room, we could of accommodate that request. The carts also service rooms on that side as well. Even then we could not control anyone who plays loud music from their vehicles or even an occasional loud muffler sound. If you had requested a quiet area, we would suggest at the end of the line for house keeping service and even better the second floor. Sorry we had no knowledge or unsure that a request was made for a quiet area. The carts that the housekeepers have are relatively new, but we will see if their is a solution. The reason we are fazing out the window units is a green additional savings of electrical, 28 amps for a window unit and 7 amps for a split unit. Maybe one way is we could address could include alarm clocks with sound sleeper effects. Thanks again, and hope to see you again soon.

We've stayed for the weekened may 8th-10th. Booked two rooms, were very comfortable as soon as you walk in.Everything in order. Close to everything we needed to be around. Very quiet! Staff was amazing and prompt with any of our needs. Minor issue,I had to fix wire for cable box, but completely understandable. All in all anyone needing to stay in the area should most definitely go there!

Thank you for staying with us and writing this review. During these trying times, we are glad that your stay was to your expectations. In the near future we are going to make some changes for the better. We still plan to keep a quite house as well as the staff, but for the most part a better experience for our customers.

There was one room infested with bed bugs and we were the ones to get that room! Our vacation was scratching the rest of the trip. And I took one home too! We were moved to the Hampton Inn. Much cleaner hotel.

Dear Ms. Broks, Sorry your stay was not a nice one and unfortunate... Your stay was in late October and remember you wanting to move in the middle of the night. I offered moving you to another room but you refused. Upon leaving I asked you to leave your luggage behind for our exterminator to examine but that was refused. We also said that we would be more than happy to replace your luggage, and pay to have everything to be washed. During our conversation, I asked if you ever come across anything like this in your travels. Your response was that you knew what they were, and had them some time ago at home, but had gotten rid of them. Our exterminator, inspected the room, and as a precaution treated the room. We have since rented that room out several times over the past 22 weeks with no other guest with complaints of this nature. This room rented a total of 29 nights to be exact. In addition, our hotel was sold out on four different weekends in February. We are truly sorry for your experience in your travels with us, but hope that you can get relief.
