This is a MUST do experience in Southwest Louisana. You get to harvest your own crawfish, see how it is cooked, then eat them. We learned so much about how they raise Crawfish. Very knowledgeable owner. Don't miss this experience. Worth every penny.
I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a different type of adventure! The home is so beautiful and clean. Mr. Barry is incredible. He taught us so much about the crawfish industry, the history of this gorgeous home, and creole cooking, we cannot wait to go back and do this again. Catching our own crawfish was the highlight of our trip. Our dinner with Mr. Barry that evening was the best tasting crawfish I have ever had. You must go visit!!
When you leave I-10 at Rayne or Crowley and head south toward Kaplan, you’ll enter a watery maze of rice fields and crawfish ponds beneath Louisiana’s own big sky. Highway stress will evaporate and time will slow down. You’ll be welcomed by Barry Toups, whose range of talents extend well beyond the term innkeeper. Farmer, fisherman, hunter, (former) cattleman, electrician, and award-winning master of Cajun cooking, Barry will allow you to experience a rare and authentic way of life. Using both early and modern methods, catch your own mess of Acadiana’s freshwater lobster, and he’ll prepare a feast to remember. If you are unfamiliar with crawfish culture, Barry will make you a true believer. The well-preserved house itself is inviting, and updated just enough to make it comfortable. The TV is small and viewing options limited, but free wireless can provide whatever outside distractions you may require. My option was to leave it all off sit out on the deck, porch, or swing and savor the peace and quiet. Highway 14 offers easy access for excursions to nearby towns and communities as well as the sweeping marshland and winding bayous.…
Our Cajun Country Caravan had a great day crawfishing and enjoyed the crawfish boil at Crawfish Haven. We had 45 Airstream caravaners that Barry hosted for the true Cajun experience. Looking forward to our next event at Crawfish Haven.
This is a clean, spacious, and comfortable place. Mr. Barry is a great historian, cook, and host. We felt like we were house sitting for the late Mrs. Rose. We can’t wait to stay here again. Our stay in the area was so much better than the other local options. Give this place a try for lodging, guide services, or family/social events.
