It was dark when we arrived, and at first we weren't sure if we were at the right place, it looked very run down, however, we were greeted by the 'house Angels' who were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. I don't mind taking my shoes off at my Nan's house, however when I'm a paying customer I don't expect to. After... More

I was a little nervous going into my stay at Fat Cat but I need not have worried. The whole place was incredibly friendly and such a warm happy place to spend some time. The room had everything I needed including a comfortable bed and later I stayed in one of their tents which was equally as nice. The thing... More

Such a warm welcoming place, great people, hospitable workers, and amazing community vegan dinners. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm in the hostel and it was great. My bed was comfortable and I could unpack my things under my bed. The atmosphere is awesome as everyone is so friendly. The vegan breakfast & dinner is amazing and free, all you have to do is pick a chore at random which is fun like... More

Such an amazing place with firebath, yoga deck, workshops, chicken, mulch shower, compost toilets, eco bike and amazingly open minded people who care about the world. Dinner and breakfast was vegan and tasty, meals are together on a big table and you can create a better place with the community. Try it out. Highly recommended when you are looking for... More

I quite enjoyed my time at Fat Cat. It's in the middle of nowhere, so the Wi-Fi is hopeless and getting to shops can be quite a chore, but the actual idea is a good one, also the people are generally decent enough. The free vegan meals are a great idea, while most of the staff are friendly enough. There... More

Its a pretty good hostel. I can kind of imagine the people who own the place making a fair bit from this, 30 dollars a pop or whatever it is, lots of people there its almost always booked up, all the staff work for free and the costomors help out with the chores at the end of an evening. However... More

Great place for low cost backpackers but nothing for people who are ussually staying in hotels. Very nice servis from woofers. Breakfast for 3 NZD, lunch and dinner for 6 NZD. Wooden bath, eco garden, compost, fire place, nice decorations, nice people. What do you need more? :)

I absolutely loved this place - stayed here for a few nights - the best thing about staying here is the vibe with the people. Real community, loved the communal dinners. Great experience. Wish I could've stayed longer. Would be good if the wi-fi was stronger and free

For some, 7 days is plenty. For most, 7 days is just the beginning, middle, or end of someone’s journey. People come here and don’t want to leave. If they do leave, they come back at some point during their travels. If you’re a gardener (or want to be gardener), this is place is paradise. There is SO much life... More
