My wife and I recently spent four wonderful nights at the Crochet House in Houma. Leland and Sally were amazing hosts ,preparing delicious breakfasts and even taking time to drive down their other home and tour us through a shrimp factory . We had a fantastic time seeing the sights in Houma and Thibodeaux, but the highlight was the Cajun caring we received at the Crochet House !! I highly recommend a stay at the Crochet House if your travels bring you to Louisiana .
This was a real cultural treat. Each morning around a delicious breakfast of family recipes,(which included oranges from their own trees) Sally and Leland shared personal stories of growing up in Cajun country. It was an insiders look of the "old way." There is much to see in the area especially on the back roads. We hope to return and explore the nearby historical towns.
Convenient to several large cities, near the coast's shrimp fishing villages, adjacent to swamps and bayous...Crochet House is the perfect home base for exploring Terrebonne and beyond. Our room was spacious and cozy, with a nice little kitchen and windows that opened on the patio and pool. Sally and Leland's breakfasts were drawn from Sally's childhood meals--hearty and imaginative--accompanied by fresh fruit, juices and teas and coffee...and tales of the Cajun way of life. Leland gave us lots of sightseeing suggestions in the area, complete with maps. They were great hosts. This was an altogether unique experience!
We went with another couple to the Rougaroo and French Food Festivals and stayed at The Crochet House. Sally and Leland were so warm and welcoming that we felt like long lost family. After a fabulous breakfast, Sally and Leland shared priceless history lessons of the area and their own captivating personal stories. We just couldn't get enough! Great location, room, and amenities. We will definitely plan another trip to visit with Sally and Leland! Thank you for your friendship and hospitality!
Great room, great people, great food! (Food better here than festivals, and festival food was superb!)Will be back very soon because this place can't be beat! They have everything you could possibly need or want, and the historical knowledge of the area is phenominal.
