This is such a great hotel, and Covington is really charming. Plus there’s excellent restaurants, shops etc among the shady moss-filled trees in such a manageable and nice community. The North Shore is fantastic! Upon arrival, the hotel is easy to find after exiting I-12 and there’s plenty of surface parking. The lobby and public spaces are lovely, open and fresh while very Southern and even beautifully scented. The patio and pool are fab, but my fave is the painted murals and bar area with a great bartender mixing delicious cocktails. Check-in is quick and the property is small—just 2 floors. Rooms are beautifully decorated and beds/linens are perfect. Details abound here!! And with this attention to detail, the hotel staff and management have attended to high standards for your safety right now with hand sanitizer everywhere, masks and plenty of space for proper social distancing. This place is a jewel!!! We will definitely be back

Please let me preface my comments with that I rarely write reviews and secondly I travelled to more than a hundred countries over a thirty-five year period and have stayed in hotels considered to be the best in the world. My wife and I had the need to come to Covington and typically stay with family, but do to COVID-19 we thought it best to stay in a hotel. This was our first stay at the Southern Hotel and it could not have been better. The hospitality of the staff was incredible. Victoria was absolutely wonderful helping us with our requests and talking to us.....she is absolutely wonderful and creates such a welcoming and helpful environment. The gentleman performing maintenance tasks could not have been nicer or more welcoming. Our room and the hotel public spaces were fantastic, but it is the staff that makes a hotel and that is what makes this property so wonderful. On the occasion we will need a place to stay in Covington in the future, there is absolutely no doubt we will be staying at the Southern Hotel.

This past weekend my daughter got married and the Southern Hotel hosted her reception and the accommodations. I cannot say enough great things about the hotel and the staff. The service we received the entire time was 5 star. Danelle made sure our every need was taken care of. The night of our dinner Cassie was incredible in taking care of our every need. The dinner prepared by Ox Lot 9 was excellent in every course served. Our family and friends were all impressed with everything about the hotel. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean. Since we had to have a reduced reception this year, we have already booked the full reception in 2021 at the Southern Hotel. I highly recommend Southern Hotel as a wedding venue, vacation/staycation, or dinner at Ox Lot 9.

This is a lovely hotel. Great southern feel..a boutique hotel would be an appropriate title. The addition of a wonderful French restaurant has added so much. Lively bar. Comfortable room. Simple but tasteful. Bathrooms and shower perfect for a 3 night stay. The downfall and it’s major to us…all AC is controlled by the hotel. These are hot and muggy Louisiana days . Our room was at 74 when we checked in. Front desk confirmed that management controlled how low the thermostats would allow you to go. She was understanding and gave us a fan and some cold bottles of water. It reached 70 by 6am the next morning. During the days…we hovered at 73…at night..we hit 69 for an hour or so. At this price point they should notify guests when booking about their AC issues. This is a lovely hotel, but stay in the winter and spring. You won’t need the extra blankets for your stay in the summer.

A hotel that embodies the phrase putting lipstick on a pig. We booked the “Deluxe King” room which did not include a coffee maker, fridge, ceiling lights, or friendly service. The room had only 3 lamps and was next to the parking lot that had flood lights that shone into the room all night. The TV is so old that my computer wouldn’t connect to it to watch normal streaming channels. In the morning construction started at 9am which was so loud I couldn’t hear my husband and then the smell of chemicals started coming in. The manager also was so unreasonable that they only would cancel our next night but wouldn’t do more than 15% off the night before which was horrible. Do not recommend. You are better off in a different hotel where they actually care about their rooms and not just their lobby decor.

We booked a night at the Southern for our anniversary and a night away from our kids amidst the pandemic for some much needed peace & quiet.
By 9:00 PM we were painfully aware that we would be sharing our room with the (very loud) wedding occurring in the courtyard directly outside our windows. While everything was generally very nice, it would’ve been great to have been notified we wouldn’t have a second of silence until after 11 PM.
So maybe check with them before you book to know if you have a courtyard room & if there’s a wedding occurring in it.

We loved loved loved The Southern Hotel! We were there for my nephew's wedding. It is a quaint little place built in 1907. The rooms were clean. The staff were attentive and accommodating. They even sent Flowers to my sister's room when she broke her arm while jogging.

Located in the heart of the old city, within walking distance to many restaurants, bars, boutiques, antique shopping etc... Very pretty hotel, attentive staff, easy off street parking n/c. Quaint bar near lobby, & conversation setting areas all around. We stayed in a suite in main bldg. #217 PROs: separate living room w/tv, coffee maker, fridge, micro, dining table. Comfortable bed and linens. Large bath, soaking tub, closet w/safe. CONs Very Loud traffic noise!! No makeup mirror, No tv in bedroom. Needs thick drapes to keep light from filtering in & to help with traffic noise.

there were a lot of great things to be said for this historic hotel on the north shore area of Lake Ponchatrain but the little details make for a great stay and mine fell a little short. the grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. But things like the elevator being out of order for all 3 days I was there and no soap in the bathroom along with some other minor annoyances with my room and the hotel made for a less than enjoyable stay.

We have sleeper mats for kids. If you were to get a double bed room and use a mat for one of the little guys, it could work. I do think the accommodation would be tight. You might want to consider a second room.
There are more places to choose from in the Covington area.
