We stayed here for two nights in late July while attending a family wedding in Lafayette. I wish we had been able to stay longer because this place was incredible! It is located about 15 minutes from Lafayette, in a remote, woodsy area, within walking distance to Lake Martin. The house offers off street parking right up front for guests. We rented both suites for our family- there is a very spacious suite that overlooks the woods, and another bedroom that houses a queen bed and a full bed in a nook which is very Harry Potteresque. My 14 year old daughter stayed in the nook and loved it. My main tip is to pack small suitcases or duffel bags because the stairs to get to the suite are somewhat steep and my large suitcase was really awkward. We stayed in the middle of phase 2 during the Covid 19 pandemic, and because there are no other guest rooms, it was very safe. The owners followed full precautions for the safety of their guests. The rooms were extremely clean and the coffee bar was fully stocked. There is also a microwave and small refrigerator in the sitting area by the coffee bar. They provide bottled water and some glasses, plates, bowls and utensils. There was only one bathroom for 5 of us, but it wasn't a problem because there was a sink inside of the bathroom as well as a sink and vanity outside of the bathroom. The bath housed a deep claw-foot tub that you could soak in or use for a shower. It was the middle of summer in Louisiana, but the rooms were always comfortably cool. My favorite part of the room was the extremely soft, buttery sheets that stayed cool and comforting throughout the night, leading to a fantastic night's sleep. (I would definitely buy some if I knew what they were.) We had breakfast each morning on the large porch, and with the fans and overcast sky, it was comfortable. It allowed us to hear a variety of birdsong and be able to relax with nature while enjoying Madeleine's delicious cuisine. In addition, there are two cats that my daughter loved to pet- they are "guest friendly," and will not approach you unless you call them. Walt and Madeleine give some excellent recommendations, and because of them we had already booked a kayak bayou tour before we arrived- this was excellent. In addition, they recommended places where we could pick up lunch and bring it back to the property, where Madeline had left place settings out for us on the porch table. My favorite part of the weekend, by far, was that Walt allowed us to use his "Jesus bar" to hang out and talk for hours with our family. We had brought our own alcohol and soft drinks, but Walt provided the use of his sound system and glassware, so we were able to "bar in place." I cannot stress enough how hospitable the owners are, while also fading into the background and not being intrusive in any way. They are just really wonderful people.

Kudos to Madeleine and Walt for creating a perfect environment for experiencing Cajun culture. The inn is beautifully appointed. The dining area has a fire during breakfasts of incredible tastes. Whether you have eggs, French toast or grits, you leave satisfied. The coffee is plentiful; one cup is not enough. We felt at home in our room. The furnishings were very comfortable and the bed made for a great night’s sleep. Both Madeleine and Walt are very friendly, and knowledgeable of the area. My husband and I were lucky to have a cooking class. Our chefs, Vicki and Hebert, instructed us in the making of crawfish etouffee and lemon meringue pie. Wow! What a meal. Once again, thank you to our hosts for such a lovely time at their home!

We have just spent two nights at Maison Madeleine and have had a wonderful time. The property is in a lovely location, close to the lake and is an original Acadian house set in beautiful gardens. Every convenience is provided with the room and the food at breakfast was delicious. The owners were so welcoming and a pleasure to spend time with. Walt even recorded a rugby game for my husband to watch with a beer on our return from dinner. We would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for southern hospitality in an authentic home.

We are local to the area, and had heard about Maison Madeline through their secret supper (which you should definitely look into). We were celebrating our 10th anniversary and could only get away for one night. What a great night we had! The guest rooms were so charming, the amount of detail, work, and effort that went into the furnishings and decor was amazing! Our guest room was VERY comfortable and we had dinner in nearby Breaux Bridge at Cafe Sydnie Mae, which was also fantastic. The next morning we slept in late and the room remained dark and cool well into the mod morning. Walt and Madeline prepared a delicious and authentic cajun breakfast that was to die for. Walt took my wife and I on a tour including the “Jesus Bar” which was great! The grounds were very nice and perfect for strolling or just sitting. Lake Martin is within walking distance and Walt and Madeline can arrange canoe or kayak tours. Overall, a very highly recommended location and we cannot wait to come again with our children.
