Detailed Reviews
We have stayed here on three different occasions, and each time it is top notch. The rooms are comfortable, there are multiple channels on cable to choose from, it offers clean rooms and bathrooms with great water pressure in the shower. Each room has individualized heating and cooling along with ceiling fans. There is a small refrigerator, water, soda, and coffee machine within the room. There is a large central living space with comfy couches and chairs. The breakfast is marvelous, hot, and nutritious. The outside grounds are spacious and beautiful to walk through. There are many books, puzzles, DVDs and games for entertainment. Jerry and Janice are accommodating, friendly, and in no way intrusive. This is a half way point for us to stop on our way to family, and we look forward to staying here again,

We really enjoyed our stay at the Stockade. The house is beautifully restored, our room (Garden View) was spacious, quiet and comfortable, with one of the best bathrooms and showers we have seen in a Bed & breakfast. Breakfast was very nice traditional fare. The only reason why I gave 4 stars and not 5 (can't give any half stars...) is due to the location. There is nothing of interest in the immediate surroundings you can walk to. We tried to stretch our legs a bit after a long drive and had to take our lives into our own hands walking along the busy road that lines one side of the property. We later found a walkable neighborhood tucked back in the other direction, but this is not the place to stay to visit downtown Baton Rouge unless you want to hop into your car and drive. There are also very few decent restaurants within walking distance. One of the best features of this place is the back patio tucked amongst old trees where we enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine!

Ah, yes, the back patio is a delight and I thank you for mentioning it. And thank you for the 4 stars. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us. Believe it or not, MANY of our guests just LOVE Sammy's Bar &Grill across the street. Especially during crawfish season! We appreciate you and wish you safe and adventurous travels. We came here for my birthday. I can’t remember the name of the room but it was on the first floor and it had a futon and a king size bed. The room was very comfortable with all the amenities including a bathrobe, a white noise machine, a big bathroom, a coffee maker, etc. It was Mardi Gras season so their whole living room was decked out so pretty. The breakfast was to die for. White chocolate French toast, frittata, toast, coffee, juice, you name it. The owners were delightful. We will definitely be staying here again

I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay!!! We strive to make guests feel at home. And I am also glad that you liked the Mardi Gras decorations. This is the first year that we have had the upside-down tree, and it has been quite a hit, even with our international guests who don't really get why we are so crazy for Mardi Gras here in Louisiana. Thank you for your kind review and we hope to see you on your next visit to Baton Rouge!!! Happy Mardi Gras, Janice, Innkeeper

Our 48th wedding anniversary was celebrated at The Stockade. We are birdwatchers. The front of the property is beautifully maintained. Janice told us we should bring rubber boots if we wanted to explore the 11 acres of her densely forested property. So many property owners don't know the value of preserving a natural habitat. We saw quite a few birds. We loved our personal Garden Room balcony that is located on the back of the house overlooking the forest. We were served breakfast in the living room gathering space, of scrambled eggs, small sausage patty, delish grits, fruit and a pastry to die for. The continental breakfast is available all day. It includes different breads, muffins, fruit, small bags of different snacks, soft drinks, juice, milk, tea bags, etc. There is a microwave, toaster, and small refrigerator in the dining area. If you have your own wine, or need to warm up leftovers, there are glasses, dishes and silverware in the dining area.. On the second floor, right outside the door of our Garden Room, was a small refrigerator. It had a few soft drinks and water available to us. We really enjoyed our stay. We have a lovely memory of celebrating our 48th anniversary with you. Thank you.

We stayed 2 nights to visit family and came away very impressed with this property. We stayed in the Rex Suite on the 1st floor and it was wonderful. The room is very large and furnished to entertain if you wanted or need to with several seating areas. The bathroom is large and the shower is great; a huge advantage for both my wife and I as most are small and have little water pressure. We could walk out of our room onto a very nice patio with beautiful views. There is some traffic noise from the street that runs in front of the property, Highlands, but is it manageable. Breakfast was OK with fresh cooked food and coffee.
Overall, a very good place to stay in a wonderful setting.

We stayed at The Stockade with some friends for a fun LSU weekend. No detail is overlooked here, and you feel as if you are in a cozy home. Breakfasts were delicious, and the proprietor is such a gracious hostess. The rooms are each different, but all were lovely (I had a peek in all of them before we checked out - the other guests were gone). Sumptuous bed linens, plenty of towels, a small coffee pot in each room, tea and coffee in the breakfast area, mini-muffins in case you need a late-night snack. There is a large living area with multiple seats, and a beautiful outdoor patio. The location is convenient to the expressway and LSU. This would be a wonderful place for a single person (it feels very safe), a quiet getaway for friends, a couples retreat weekend, or a larger group who all want to stay together.

The Stockade Bed & Breakfast in Baton Rouge is a FANTASTIC place!!! We stayed in the Red & Blue Suite for 12 nights & hated to leave. Wondered about lifetime rate. Innkeeper and staff were super friendly & attentive to many creative details that make their guests feel comfortable & welcomed. An example, my name was written on a chalk board prominently displayed on the door to our suite. Special gourmet breakfasts were surprises & real treats! Personal favorites were shrimp & grits (best ever) & a crawfish/bacon/mushroom quiche. Each morning we were served the breakfast entre at the table. Behind us, a buffet offering generous portions of hot/cold beverages as well as tasty sides like fresh-cut fruits, bacon, sausages, English muffins, etc. Regarding the suites, just like the rest of the home, filled with beautiful art, comfortable furniture (winged back chairs, overstuffed couches, etc.) that can't be described here well enough to do it justice. You'll just need to see for yourself. I do need to mention: deep-sleeping on a comfortable mattress, waking up in the treetops, going outdoors to have that first cup of Community coffee on your private balcony, surrounded by nature, peace and quiet was, to me, the experience of a life time. Hope to return and repeat this unique experience one day before I leave this earth.

My wife and I stayed at the Stockade B&B for three nights earlier in October. We loved every aspect of our stay and we would return to the Stockade in a minute. This is a beautiful property that is filled with antiques, art, and other beautiful objects. The rooms are spacious and decorated tastefully. The breakfast every morning was delicious and plentiful. We made our reservation shortly before our stay and the owner figured out how to juggle rooms to accommodate us. Our hostess gave us great advice on sightseeing and we visited the Laura Plantation and took the Last Wilderness bayou tour based on her advice. This was great advice because we thoroughly enjoyed both tours. Sammie’s Grill across the street offers great food, including many seafood dishes. This is one of the nicest B&B’s that we have ever visited.

From the warm welcome we received, comfortable spacious rooms, tasty breakfasts and interesting conversations with Janice, our friends and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two nights stay! We stayed in the Blue Room and Garden Room on the second floor. Each room had comfortable clean beds. The bathrooms were recently remodeled and upgraded. The bedrooms were spacious and nicely decorated including seating areas for privacy. Each room also had a private outside deck accessed from the bedroom proving outside seating overlooking the natural native trees and vegetation on the acreage surrounding the home. Janice made us feel at home, away from home, in the large interestingly decorated living room with space for us to visit together. We look forward to a future stay.

Most gracious hostess, Janet, made us feel like old friends. Welcomed us in to the house and shared about the architect, building, and most recent decor. The house is full of antiques, vintage, and current local artisans displayed at every turn. We had the blue room and enjoyed the food right across the street at Sammy's. Breakfast was beyond all expectations. Can't wait until our next trip!

The Blue Room has a private bath
I think they would feel perfectly safe here. The Stockade provides a relaxed and friendly environment. The neighborhood it is in is a nicer area of Baton Rouge too. Someone else will have to answer the bed and distance questions. The room we stayed in had a king and a pull out couch bed.
I am very sorry, but we do not allow pets. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and hopefully you will stay with us again sometime.
