I booked this B&B based on previous travelers reviews and I am so glad I did. My only regret was that I didn't stay longer. The town is quaint and perfectly located near several distilleries, Coolmare and other horse attractions, Lexington, and about an hour from Louisville. We found endless things to do in the area but all we wanted to do was stay at the inn. It is situated on the most beautifully maintained grounds with several areas to sit and relax and enjoy some downtime. The house itself is splendid and also beautifully maintained. They have several common areas to sit and enjoy the home's grandeur. We stayed in the Somewhere in Time Suite which is possibly the nicest suite we've ever stayed in for the price. You enter into a huge living room with comfortable furniture and a day bed for a third person if needed. A small hallway leads to a huge bathroom with a large two person jacuzzi tub, large walk in shower, double vanities, and a separate toilet area. I appreciated the magnifying vanity mirror and bath products provided. Off the hallway is also a large walk in closet with a small refrigerator. The bedroom is really large with a king size poster bed, comfy chairs, a lovely fireplace, and plenty of windows with nice views of the grounds. My only possible nit picky complaint would be the small flat screen tv. The bedroom is so large that the distance to the TV makes the smaller screen not easy to read the CC, but since I wasn't there to spend any time watching TV it wasn't that big a deal. The room was very quiet and we heard no noise from anyone or anything during our stay. When we checked into our room we were met with a plate of gourmet cookies which are put out each afternoon. On the landing of the floor was a very well appointed area with coffee, tea, and a refrigerator loaded with an assortment of drinks available to guest at any time. There was also another coffee and tea station in the breakfast conservatory area. The breakfast was 5 star as well. They have you fill out a diet questionnaire so they accommodate any food allergies or preferences you might have. They even wrapped up the extra scones from breakfast to take with us. I can't imagine staying anywhere else the next time we are in the area.…
My wife and I experienced a first time stay at A Storybook Inn where we celebrated our anniversary. Elise and her staff were so professional and caring while making our anniversary so special. The Inn was furnished beautifully which is a testament to Elise’s interior design ability. The breakfast meals were phenomenal! We loved our stay so much that we booked a three night stay in October.
My husband and I recently stayed at A Storybook Inn for the second time, where we spent a few blissful days being pampered by Elise Buckley and her remarkable staff in the most glorious surroundings. We chose the Gone with the Wind Suite for this stay, and it was just so beautiful, romantic, and comfortable. The king bed is sumptuous with fine linens and pillows, and we slept like babies each night. The bathroom is replete with lovely accessories, towels, and the comfiest terry robes. Each morning, we were served fantastic food based on fresh, natural, local ingredients that was not only incredibly delicious...it was presented so beautifully, and the portions were very generous...and it was served with such grace. The beauty of the inn itself is second to none, and Ms. Buckley has overlooked absolutely no detail to ensure her guests are surrounded in true Southern hospitality. Every space in the Inn is impeccably thought out. The grace with which we were welcomed in every aspect of our visit left us so relaxed and refreshed. We just cannot wait to return...and we will.…
This is our third time staying here and first time in the Somewhere in Time Suite. It is absolutely stunning with a front room for just relaxing but the bedroom has two wing back chairs and a sofa which are great places to relax. Bathroom is well appointed with a separate vanity area, and walk in shower. Breakfast was the best ever with scones and muffins to take with you if you don’t finish all of them. Great treats in the afternoon in the room that we enjoyed in the evenings. Elise is such a gem and I know we will be back as we visit the Bourbon trail once again. Don’t miss this gem!
The Storybook Inn is truly a magical place. We celebrated my husbands birthday with our two daughters and husbands. We stayed in the guesthouse and it was the perfect place to unwind and take in all the beautiful surrounding on the grounds of this special place. We are all type A personalities but surprisingly just loved sitting on the front porch or back deck just taking in the sights. The precious resident cats are so friendly and greeted us each mornings. Out the back you could find the resident ground hogs scampering around. Elise has made this place extraordinary as well as the staff. The Inn is lovely and the breakfast is 5 star. This is a must place to visit.
A Storybook Inn deserves superlatives in every category. We stayed three nights in the beautifully appointed “Somewhere in Time” suite. How I wish we had the luxurious high-ceilinged bedroom and bathroom in our home. It was tempting to linger in the room just to enjoy the comfortable chairs and lovely views through the large windows. The inn and spacious grounds were impeccably maintained. Four public rooms are available for guests: the living room, library, game room, and the sun-filled conservatory overlooking the magnificent grounds. The breakfast table and beautifully plated food could have been photographed for a magazine. It was cooked to order and delicious. Freshly baked afternoon treats are delivered daily to each room. The highlight of our trip was getting to know Innkeeper Elise and her wonderful staff. Tiffany greeted us upon arrival and made us feel welcomed. Elise took time to talk to us and share information about the inn and the community. We enjoyed our leisurely breakfast conversations with her and Pat. The women who served the food and cleaned the rooms were kind and always smiled when interacting with us. I can’t recommend A Storybook Inn highly enough. It is a destination as much as the horse farms and the Bourbon trail. You will be glad that you chose to stay here.…
My husband and I love to travel, and part of our travel experiences always includes staying in really nice and/or historical hotels. This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast, and we were absolutely blown away with the beautifully appointed and comfortable accommodations, too many amenities to even list, the incredible breakfast, and the warmest, most welcoming staff we’ve ever had the pleasure of encountering. Elise, the sweet and charming owner, has lovingly restored a gorgeous home and grounds, created an atmosphere that reflects the epitome of elegance and luxurious comfort, and decided to shower her guests with hospitality that one can only marvel at in delight. Those cookies we had as our afternoon snack … divine!! While we were only there one night and stayed in the breathtaking Gone with the Wind suite, we realized we had to come back so we could fully enjoy everything this gem and it’s wonderful staff have to offer. Thus, we are already planning our next visit! A Storybook Inn was far and away the best highlight of a fantastic week-long trip…we only wish we were at Storybook the entire time!! Thank you Elise, Pat, and everyone else at A Storybook Inn…we will never forget you! Tina E…
I'm not usually one to write reviews or take photos but I am compelled to write something about this place in particular because it was beyond perfect. Booked just one night in the Gone With the Wind suite while passing through Lexington and wish I could have stayed longer. Elise, the staff and even the dog and cats were incredibly welcoming. The room had not one speck of dust or smudge anywhere. The decor was just gorgeous. The only thing is all the flowers were fake and not fresh but like I said not one spec of dust on any of it. The interior design was tasteful, charming and cozy with beautiful fabrics, window treatments and linen. The grounds were kept as flawless as the house, too. There are lots of restaurants and quaint shops within walking distance and they are happy to make recommendations for whatever you are in the mood for. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic as well. They were happy to make substitutions and cooked my poached egg exactly as I requested. I could tell they did not skimp on the quality of the ingredients. My only regret is that I wish I lived on the East Coast just so I could visit this fairytale destination again.…
This place is truly wonderful. Elise and her staff have done an amazing job making a storybook inn everything you could want and more in a bed and breakfast. the inn itself is stunning inside and out and Elise has thought of everything when it comes to decorating the inn and the themed rooms. The breakfast itself is out of this world! Truly one of the best stays my wife and I have ever had. We will definitely be back.
From the moment we turned onto the driveway of this beautiful, historic property to begin our stay and we checked out, our experience was phenomenal. Elise, the owner, was welcoming and a wealth of knowledge about the home that she lovingly transformed into the inn and the area. The house and grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. The staff was kind and helpful. Extra care went into every made from scratch meal and snack using only the best and cleanest ingredients. Dietary restrictions and gluten free needs were handled superbly. We look forward to staying here again and have already raved about the inn to others.
