My husband and I stayed at A Storybook Inn two years ago and enjoyed it so much that we treated my daughter and family to a second stay this past weekend. We stayed in the Huntsman Cottage this time which was absolutely perfect for our family of five.

Everything was spotless and so well maintained. Elise and her staff tend to every small detail. We looked forward to coming back each evening to see what delightful treats would be left for us to enjoy. Oatmeal cranberry cookies and individual carrot cakes with cream cheese icing didn't disappoint.

And speaking of food...the breakfasts at A Storybook Inn are divine! Not only the delicious taste, but the presentation as well. I can't get enough of the scones! And Elise and her staff were so accommodating to my 17 month old granddaughter, giving her small portions on child-safe dishes for her enjoyment.

After two visits we know we will be back again.

Myself and two friends were blessed to stay in this gorgeous home in the center of bluegrass country during the most festive time, this past December 20-21st. I can't imagine it being more beautiful than Christmas but I definitely want to stay again come spring or summer when we can enjoy the lush grounds as well!

We checked in on Friday evening, were escorted to the Gone With the Wind suite where we settled in and enjoyed the scrumptious home made cookies and nearby beverage bar just outside our room. We then took a short drive into Midway to dine at the highly recommended and rated, Heirloom Restaurant. Afterwards we wound down in the richly appointed living room at the inn before retiring to our room for a restful night.

On Saturday morning we made our way to the atrium overlooking the back lawn for a very refreshing & beautifully presented three course breakfast, enjoyed a final cup of jo by the fire in the living room before going out to discover the many unique shops in Midway and downtown Versailles, having lunch at Melissa's Cottage in Versailles which Elise had recommended as well. Saturday night we were privileged to meet several locals and guests from the area at a Yuletide Gathering in the inn which solidified my Christmas spirit for the season!

On Sunday we enjoyed another great breakfast before sadly ending this storybook weekend. Elise is a fantastic innkeeper. Her's & her staff's attention to detail in the decorating and cleanliness, from the gleaming crystal chandeliers & window panes to the glowing furniture, is exceptional. We felt like we were in a Hallmark movie, if not a golden oldie such as "Gone With the Wind" the entire stay.

A Storybook Inn is highly recommended for it's beauty, it's history, it's exceptional service & it's peaceful ambience.

Dear Tim, You and your friends were such a wonderful addition to the Inn at Christmas! I love the fireside chats with all three of you. And your piano playing was grand, as was the vocals of your friends. Singing Christmas carols around the piano was huge fun! You are most welcome to come in the Spring, Summer or Fall to Storybook. Every season is beautiful. The end of March, the Japanese Cherry trees are bloom and then come the Redbud and Dogwood. Our service is just the same every season...relishing the opportunity to serve our guests with excellence. Thank you so much for your kind words. Until next time! Elise

We were thrilled to be a guest at A Storybook Inn. We were warmly welcomed by the owner Elise and the hospitable staff. The Inn is maintained to perfection. Every inch has been given attention to detail and is truly a historical work of art. We were wowed by the excellent breakfasts and friendly servers. The breakfasts are outstanding and above and beyond what you would be served elsewhere. Each item of food appeared to carefully be selected to be the best. The fruit that was served was at its peak, the coffee is of the highest quality, everything on the menu is thoughtfully selected and served with artistry. The Inn's grounds are meticulously maintained and there is elegance on display in every direction-- inside and out. We hope to go back and enjoy A Storybook Inn again. It is exactly what we needed to help us relax, enjoy, and get us through the rest of 2020.

A wonderful place to unwind, recharge and eat some delicious breakfasts. From the moment Tiffany checked us in we felt welcome and at home. We stayed in the "Gone With the Wind" suite and it was fantastic. When you enter the suite you find yourself in the sitting room where you will find your afternoon snack each day. The snacks we had were cookies or cupcakes and they were so decadent and delicious, perfectly baked. The bath has a two person shower with two rain shower heads that is so luxurious. The bedroom is very large with more comfy chairs and the heavenly king size bed that is so comfortable that we slept later in the morning than we have in years!. The suite as well as the entire house was spotlessly clean. We chose the 9am seating for breakfast which was a smart move that enabled us to wake up leisurely and make our way to breakfast without ever feeling rushed. The breakfasts were out of this world delicious. Elise is such a great cook and very educated in what she is cooking. Whether gluten free or other requirements she will have you covered. She understands how to adjust recipes to make them all perfect. If you want a perfect place to get away this is it!
If you like cats there are two, Summer and Boots, that have their own little house on the property and they will greet you in the parking lot to welcome you, however you will have to enjoy them outside as they are not allowed in the house.
Anything you need during your stay be sure to ask Tiffany or Elise, they will guide you or get answers for you, really, they are there for you and sincerely want you to enjoy your time at A Storybook Inn.

I booked this B&B based on previous travelers reviews and I am so glad I did. My only regret was that I didn't stay longer. The town is quaint and perfectly located near several distilleries, Coolmare and other horse attractions, Lexington, and about an hour from Louisville. We found endless things to do in the area but all we wanted to do was stay at the inn. It is situated on the most beautifully maintained grounds with several areas to sit and relax and enjoy some downtime.
The house itself is splendid and also beautifully maintained. They have several common areas to sit and enjoy the home's grandeur.
We stayed in the Somewhere in Time Suite which is possibly the nicest suite we've ever stayed in for the price. You enter into a huge living room with comfortable furniture and a day bed for a third person if needed. A small hallway leads to a huge bathroom with a large two person jacuzzi tub, large walk in shower, double vanities, and a separate toilet area. I appreciated the magnifying vanity mirror and bath products provided. Off the hallway is also a large walk in closet with a small refrigerator.
The bedroom is really large with a king size poster bed, comfy chairs, a lovely fireplace, and plenty of windows with nice views of the grounds. My only possible nit picky complaint would be the small flat screen tv. The bedroom is so large that the distance to the TV makes the smaller screen not easy to read the CC, but since I wasn't there to spend any time watching TV it wasn't that big a deal. The room was very quiet and we heard no noise from anyone or anything during our stay.
When we checked into our room we were met with a plate of gourmet cookies which are put out each afternoon. On the landing of the floor was a very well appointed area with coffee, tea, and a refrigerator loaded with an assortment of drinks available to guest at any time.
There was also another coffee and tea station in the breakfast conservatory area.
The breakfast was 5 star as well. They have you fill out a diet questionnaire so they accommodate any food allergies or preferences you might have. They even wrapped up the extra scones from breakfast to take with us.
I can't imagine staying anywhere else the next time we are in the area.

A Storybook Inn deserves superlatives in every category. We stayed three nights in the beautifully appointed “Somewhere in Time” suite. How I wish we had the luxurious high-ceilinged bedroom and bathroom in our home. It was tempting to linger in the room just to enjoy the comfortable chairs and lovely views through the large windows.

The inn and spacious grounds were impeccably maintained. Four public rooms are available for guests: the living room, library, game room, and the sun-filled conservatory overlooking the magnificent grounds.

The breakfast table and beautifully plated food could have been photographed for a magazine. It was cooked to order and delicious. Freshly baked afternoon treats are delivered daily to each room.

The highlight of our trip was getting to know Innkeeper Elise and her wonderful staff. Tiffany greeted us upon arrival and made us feel welcomed. Elise took time to talk to us and share information about the inn and the community. We enjoyed our leisurely breakfast conversations with her and Pat. The women who served the food and cleaned the rooms were kind and always smiled when interacting with us.

I can’t recommend A Storybook Inn highly enough. It is a destination as much as the horse farms and the Bourbon trail. You will be glad that you chose to stay here.

Just came from our third trip to A Storybook Inn. Typically people pick a town they want to go to and then find a place to stay while they’re there. This is different. This is an entire experience on its own. Pick A Storybook Inn and then find some activities around it, which is pretty easy to do.

My husband and I stayed in two rooms in the main house previously and this time decided to treat ourselves to the Huntsman‘s Chase, which is a separate house. Huntsman’s Chase would be great if you have a group you’re traveling with, but it’s also very special if it’s just two of you. If you reserve Huntsman’s Chase, no one else can stay in the house with you. We had our own fireplace in the living room and nice kitchen, front porch with rockers, private back deck as well as laundry room, main floor bedroom and exquisite bathroom. Oh and also a private fire pit!

Everything at A Storybook Inn is quality. Down to the last detail. As an example at Huntsman‘s Chase, the leather chairs were recliners and the most comfortable chairs you could sit in! And there’s even umbrellas in case it rains and you need to walk to the main house in the rain.
It’s a very short walk up to the main house. Just far enough away to give you privacy and yet close for walking to breakfast each morning where you’ll be pampered to an amazing breakfast.

We have not traveled on vacation because of COVID concerns but we had no qualms coming here. We enjoyed being able to go pick up food and bring it back in the evening. If you look at the website to a Storybook Inn, you’ll see the precautions they take. It’s not just something they put on their website, they follow these guidelines. We felt very confident that they were very interested in our safety.

We will be back for another totally relaxing getaway!

Wow. What a well-expressed, fantastic review of A Storybook Inn. It made me want to go there...but then I am the Innkeeper! : ) You said such gracious words and gave such helpful descriptions of the Guesthouse and the Inn in general. You have given fellow travelers a view of what they can expect at the Inn. We have been giving the same excellence in cleanliness, exceptional decor, delicious food, and gracious service for going on 18 years. It means a lot to you when travelers like you take the time to write and say such great things about your experience here. Heartfelt thanks to you!

This Inn is in a large house just off the main street in Versailles and very close to many horse farms, distillery's and great restaurants. Elise has put a lot of effort in decor, room design, amenities and cleanliness. Beyond the room, the breakfast she prepares is outstanding and goes way beyond what we have experienced in similar inns. Finally, Elise and her staff are very helpful in pointing the way to area attractions and great places to eat.

I'm not usually one to write reviews or take photos but I am compelled to write something about this place in particular because it was beyond perfect. Booked just one night in the Gone With the Wind suite while passing through Lexington and wish I could have stayed longer. Elise, the staff and even the dog and cats were incredibly welcoming. The room had not one speck of dust or smudge anywhere. The decor was just gorgeous. The only thing is all the flowers were fake and not fresh but like I said not one spec of dust on any of it. The interior design was tasteful, charming and cozy with beautiful fabrics, window treatments and linen. The grounds were kept as flawless as the house, too. There are lots of restaurants and quaint shops within walking distance and they are happy to make recommendations for whatever you are in the mood for. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic as well. They were happy to make substitutions and cooked my poached egg exactly as I requested. I could tell they did not skimp on the quality of the ingredients. My only regret is that I wish I lived on the East Coast just so I could visit this fairytale destination again.

Thank you for taking your time to write such a beautiful, detailed review. Your words are very much appreciated. We enjoyed hosting you, and hope that you can stay longer when you are on this side of the country again. One thing that I would add that yes, there are a few professionally designed silk flower arrangements, but the majority of the flowers at the Inn are fresh and real. The Innkeeper (me) spends much time on fresh arrangements weekly and posts lots of photos on Instagram of the arrangments, such as on each of the dining tables, the Conservatory sideboard, the front hall table, the living room side table and live orchids in all the suites. Warm, sincere thanks for your fantastic review.

My husband and I have been blessed to have stayed at A Storybook Inn a number of times over the past 12+ years. Unlike some places one visits multiple times, the charm of this lovely place only grows warmer and friendlier.

One really must experience firsthand the graciousness of Innkeeper Elise Buckley and her staff. Everyone is so very warm, friendly, thoughtful, and helpful. Elise’s incredible attention to even the smallest detail is evident everywhere. The décor of the Inn is perfect—luxurious yet comfortable, and every square inch is absolutely immaculate. Each of the four classic movie-themed guest suites is so well appointed, with everything a guest could possibly need provided for. The Huntsman Cottage guesthouse with its 3.5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms is really a lovely home, complete with a fabulous full kitchen and cozy fireplace in the living room. The full laundry room is a real convenience. And just when you think it can’t get any better, delicious snacks of cookies, brownies, scones, or other baked treats appear in your room every afternoon. What a way to be welcomed home!

The grounds of A Storybook Inn are gorgeous and so peaceful. The garden with its ancient waterfall is a perfect place to enjoy an evening beverage, overlooking the property. There is also a firepit to warm those cooler nights.

It would be criminal not to rave about the truly amazing breakfasts served in the gorgeous conservatory with views of the grounds. You may find—like we have--lunch is not necessary after this hearty meal of clean, organic, and locally dishes. The omelets and quiches are made with clean, organic eggs from Elise’s own farm, and she also grows many of the herbs used in her cooking. The baked goods—what can I say! They are mouthwatering and marvelous. Fresh fruit is always included, along with your choice of juice and a variety of wonderful coffees. I promise you will walk away from these meals more than satisfied in every way.

If you’re looking for a beautiful location with so many options for dining, nightlife, museums, gorgeous horse farms, and horse racing, or just relaxing on the lovely property of the Inn, we really encourage you to spend several days at A Storybook Inn. It will be one of your favorite experiences.

Answer from Elise B
Versailles, Ky
Hello. Thank you for your reply Natalie. Hope all is well down your way. I have fond memories of your Derby stay. Hope your group comes back to see us. "FiFiFrank: Thank you for the question. There is a common area in close proximity to the suites that has Flavia Coffees (differing kinds) and hot teas. In the fridge in the common area, there is as Natalie said, juices and bottled water. The fridge in your room is for your own personal use to chill wine or meds or food. We do not provide wine though there is a wine store with a good selection that is not far from the Inn. We provide a quality Inn-made snack in the afternoons. The Inn is a stunning historic place with smiling faces to make your stay exceptional. We hope you choose to experience our wonderful hospitality. All the best, Elise, Innkeeper
