The Woodford Inn is in the heart of the Bluegrass, a wonderful destination for anyone visiting central Kentucky. We are located just outside downtown Versailles near shopping, live music, biking, hiking, dining and more! The Inn is located next to Big Spring Park, a 30 acre park with playgrounds, pavilions, a creek, and wooded walking paths. There are 5 bourbon distilleries, 4 Woodford County wineries, 17 horse farms with tours available, and over 20 museums and 50 historical sites within 15 miles. We are also conveniently located within 15 minutes of Frankfort, the state capital, the Bluegrass Airport in Lexington, Keeneland Race Course and just off the Bluegrass Parkway on the Bourbon Trail. The Woodford Inn is located in former The Cleveland House, a home for orphan girls first built in 1865, razed and rebuilt on the original foundation in 1926 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. We have 8 unique rooms, all luxuriously appointed with ornate queen size beds, matching armoires, TVs, and mini refrigerators. Each private bath features a jetted spa tub, handheld brass shower heads with six adjustable settings, and plush cotton towels. We offer premium soaps and lotions from Terra Pure's spa-inspired Green Tea collection, an eco-conscious line infused with organic aloe, honey and olive oil, that is paraben, gluten and cruelty free. Join us each morning for a complimentary breakfast before going out to explore all that the Bluegrass has to offer! More than a traditional Bed & Breakfast, we offer lodging and will soon offer dining and host gatherings of all types with a full service restaurant, bar and multiple event venues opening by October 2021. Come join us and see what you've been missing!

Detailed Reviews
We had a great stay here. The owners are friendly, hands on and working to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. The inn is large and spacious with lovely rocking chairs on the front porch. There was a bar across the street with live music and we were able to sit on the porch and listen. Our room was spacious and clean, especially the bathroom. We had a dorm size refrigerator in the room. We spent some time in the bar and the bartender was very friendly and nice. She gave us suggestions for restaurants locally. The breakfast is nice. Standard fare of eggs, bacon, toast, yogurt and fruit. They do serve a brunch to the public starting at 11 if you would prefer to wait for that. It's a small upcharge. It seemed to be quiet popular with the locals. The only negative, and this is to be expected I'm sure, is since there is no elevator, you do have to carry your bags up the stairs. The rooms would not be very accessible for anyone handicapped or with inability to carry bags up and down several steps. The Inn is within walking distance of some restaurants, bars, coffee shop and shoppes. Overall we had a great time and would stay there again if we are in the area.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Richard and Laura at The Woodford Inn! This talented couple took over this historic former orphanage for girls about a year ago. They are already making themselves indispensable to the community and the weary traveler. Unlike most bed and breakfast establishments, the Woodford offers a full-service restaurant and bar, both of which we really enjoyed. Bartender Christa was invaluable with visitor tips and great drinks. Breakfast is a hot buffet and self-serve cereal, breads and yogurt. Reserve ahead for dinner in the full service dining room, where local favorites like burgoo are available. Our bed in room 2 was very comfortable, and Laura's curated art prints throughout the Inn are outstanding. The inn is right next to a lovely park, and set back off the main road, so there's no road noise like so many other establishments. There is much to see around Versailles, and we enjoyed dinner in nearby Midway as well. We attended the races at Keeneland, and weren't sure what to expect, but we really enjoyed our day there. Thank you Richard and Laura for preserving this historic property for the enjoyment of all!

Just Lovely. Came to Versailles to visit a friend and ended up with a great vacation too. A beautiful inn in a convenient location in a cute town. My room was large and comfortable, especially the bed. There is a hearty hot breakfast each morning, although some mornings I opted for the serve yourself continental which was just perfect for when I headed out early to explore the area. The common room is a nice place to sit and chat with friends and the owners/staff. A beautiful room with super comfy furniture. I can’t wait to return because there is a lot to do in the area and I couldn’t cover it all in 5 days. PS try to have dinner there if you can - it’s amazing.

Nothing about this B & B was inviting enough for us to return. Our room was nice enough, but had plenty of room for an extra chair, that would have been nice while resting between activities. The downstairs visiting main room was uncomfortable furniture, with the innkeepers messy desk and computer right there with you. The innkeepers delightfully eavesdropping on your whole conversation. Enjoy your TV viewing pleasure if you have your own streaming services and have brought your passwords with you. As cable is not a part of your room rate. Let’s talk breakfast. I have a hard time believing these innkeepers have ever been to a B & B. There are choices at the same caliber of a Holiday Inn Express, Toast, Yogurt, Coffee & Tea. Or their main “hot” breakfast of scrambled eggs & bacon with fresh cut fruit. We spent 3 nights there with that as our only options. My husband doesn’t like bacon and told them the first morning, so he got scrambled eggs and fruit after that morning. We ate breakfast in the bar and guess what? The Male innkeeper was maybe three feet away at the next table over listening to our low spoken conversation adding his unwanted opinions. We were anxious to just leave this place, so asked to have breakfast at 8 instead of 8:30 and were told “no” they don’t start serving until 8:30. Many more observations, but trying to keep them at a 2 star not 1.

Mrs. Oldenkamp, We are very disappointed to hear you were not pleased with your stay. We strive to provide great service and food to all the guests who visit our Inn. While most people love our Inn, based on our previous reviews - you did not. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. We sincerely hope you find a place to your liking during your future travels. However, I am truly surprised to read the review as your comments to me during your stay were very positive. Reading your review, we see no constructive criticism. You seem very unhappy and seem to have issues with us as people as well as our policies and procedures. Your review boils down to two things: the root cause and filler intended to paint us in as unflattering light as possible and discourage others from visiting us. The root cause of this review is breakfast. We serve a hot breakfast from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM based on the most popular times our guests have requested and to ensure we can meet the needs of our guests as well as our professional and personal commitments. We cannot guarantee an earlier time and do not want to promise something we cannot deliver. We have been to other B&Bs but are uncertain if you have been. Our breakfast offering is at least as appealing as those we have visited. The continental area is available anytime in the morning until checkout. Guests are introduced to the Continental Area during check in: It contains appliances such as a toaster, microwave, Keurig, and a water dispenser which has both refrigerated and hot water. Plates (small and large), bowls, juice glasses, coffee mugs, silverware, napkins and to go cups are readily available. Drink options include coffee, tea (15 varieties including both caffeinated and decaf options), hot chocolate, hot cider, milk, almond milk, and orange juice. Food options include oatmeal (two flavors), grits, three types of cold breakfast cereals, toaster pastries (three flavors), four kinds of breakfast bars, protein bars, apples, bananas, raisin bread, wheat bread, English muffins, bagels, and yogurt (four flavors). There is real butter, margarine, and jellies (two or three flavors) also available. Our hot breakfast is typically scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh cut fruit. With 16 to 20 people to make breakfast for on any given day, we have chosen the items that have the greatest popularity and can be produced quickly to ensure every guest can receive their food quickly. Not everyone desires to eat at the same time, so providing a fresh, hot breakfast to 16 or more people can be a challenge, streamlining the process makes it more convenient for everyone. You asked if we could make breakfast at 8:00 AM, we said, "I’m sorry, we serve the hot breakfast beginning at 8:30, but the continental area is available all morning." We do not like to be unable to accommodate our guests’ special needs, but unfortunately, sometimes "No" is the answer. Your husband said he did not like bacon, he asked me not to bring it out in the future as it would go to waste. I did not put it on his plate subsequently, he received extra eggs instead, which he seemed to enjoy. He did not mention or ask for anything else. Again, there were many other options from the continental breakfast choices. While we do not wish to engage in a tit-for-tat, we do feel the need to respond to the issues presented to ensure there is no confusion about our Inn and to provide clarification to those who might read your review. Laura, and I have owned the business since 2021 and live on site, the public spaces also serve as our residence, as in many B&Bs. However, we are not a "traditional" B&B as we have a casual fine dining restaurant, bar, and an outdoor covered Pavilion which seats up to 170 people. We are happy to hear you found the room to be “nice enough”. It is a spacious room, large enough to accommodate a rollaway bed (at an additional charge) or another wing-back chair upon request (no charge). We are happy to provide another chair if a guest would like one. You may have overlooked the bench seat in your room as it is beside the entrance to the walk-in closet and away from the main living area. The "downstairs visiting room", which is also our "living room", serves as our reception area or "lobby". It has 5 wing-back chairs (identical to the one in your lodging room) and two overstuffed leather couches. We and the vast majority of our guests find them very comfortable; it is unfortunate you did not. This room is also where our lodging guests come to check in and includes the Continental Breakfast area. Our reception desk is also in the room and there is a computer used for administrative functions on the desk. You may have considered the desk messy, but I fail to understand how that is a cause for your concern. One of us remains at the desk as much as possible to ensure we are available to our guests, to answer calls and emails, and to work on our business tasks. Hence the computer and our presence in our living room. As for eavesdropping... had we been listening, I am certain there would have been nothing "delightful" about your conversation. You were in a public space with a greatly reduced expectation of privacy. If you wanted to have a private conversation, you could have removed yourself to the 65' front porch to one of the 8 rocking chairs, one of the two bistro tables and chair sets, the table with umbrella in the side yard, the covered pavilion, or to your room. Your choice to sit in the room we were already occupying was your decision, we did not sneak up on you. Our rooms all have smart TVs and we pay to have thousands of free shows and movies, free access to local and national television stations, and access to most of your favorite streaming platforms - available at no extra charge to our guests. You can also stream content from personal devices to the TV. This has proven to be much more convenient to our guests and enables us to have one of the lowest room rates in the area. It is unfortunate you were unable to bring your passwords, I do understand the difficulty in packing, storing, and carrying them around on a long trip. I usually keep them in a secure file on my phone. Or remember them. You were served the hot breakfast in the bar at your own table, also in a public space. All guests are served in the bar most days. There are other tables in the bar, one of which I use to perform administrative functions while remaining close enough to take care of any guest's needs that might arise. Also, it may come as a surprise to you, but most guests to B&Bs enjoy conversing with the proprietors. As you obviously did not want to speak to me, I did not engage in conversation until your husband looked directly at me and spoke. When we conversed, I may have shared an opinion on something, I do not remember the conversation. Thank you for the opportunity to respond and we wish you safe travels in the future!

I booked our room on Booking.com as the website directed us to do. We were so excited to stay at this neat looking hotel. Unfortunately we ran into major car trouble in Ohio and had to rely on a tow truck to get us off the highway, drop the vehicle at a repair shop for the morning and tranport us to a hotel nearby.
As soon as we knew we were not going to make it to Kentucky we called the hotel to inform them (we had some free time being stranded on the side of the highway for 4 hours). They in turn told us we had to talk to booking.com. So we contacted Booking.com and they told us they would contact the hotel to request a refund for the room we could not make it to. The hotel did not respond to booking.com or the 3 voice mails I have left them. Even if they are going to refuse a refund, the professional thing to do would be to call back a client. Very unprofessional! Is this the type of management you want to rely on if your have a request or need while onsite?? As a result we now would never stay here again.

Hello, I'm very sorry to hear about your misfortune! I think you were booked at the Woodford Hotel - we are The Woodford Inn. We have not received any messages, voicemails or had anyone cancel with the circumstances you are describing. Our last Booking.com cancellation was due to illness. I hope all turned out well with your vehicle, and you are welcome to stay with us if you plan on visiting the area again!

We spent one night here and it was perfect! Laura and Richard were so welcoming, informative and made our stay great. The room and bathroom were spacious, bed comfortable with nice linens and while we didn’t need it, had a spacious closet. The bartender was knowledgeable and they had a great selection. Coffee, tea, water(hot and cold)and breakfast bars, oatmeal and fruit were available 24 hours and the morning breakfast was light and delicious. We didn’t eat there for dinner but the menu looked great! The front porch was perfect to sit with coffee and relax. We would highly recommend a visit here!

Sunday brunch this morning. All the salad fixings were super fresh; the homemade dressings were first class. Each breakfast choice was obviously prepared by a chef of talent and training. Flavors just jumped! The Woodford Chicken, green beans, etc. were also something to talk about. Desert portions were perfect and once again bordering on spectacular. If you are within 30 miles of Versailles and you don't make it here for brunch, it's on you.

We didn't stay here but had dinner here one night. The burgers were delicious and huge! The service was friendly and attentive. There were 2 separate dining rooms plus a bar area that looked fun for watching a game. Extensive drink menu and fun drink specials. Would definitely return for another burger!

The owners of this quaint and beautiful home were so warm and welcoming. The room was elegantly furnished with a very comfortable bed and bathroom. The breakfast was delicious, and the inn was in a great location to explore the lovely town of Versailles. I am only sorry we missed the Sunday brunch as I hear it is also wonderful! Thank you for the inquiry! We do not have a room with two beds, however are rooms are quite large and are able to accommodate a queen size inflatable mattress that we can offer, as well as a single roll away cot. Please contact me at 859-873-5600 with any additional questions. Thank you!
** Also, thank you to the other guests who have helped with responses. You all are WONDERFUL! We appreciate all the support.
I believe so. It was cool when we were there. Everything seemed to be updated.
Room 3 is the only room that does not have a shower, it has a double Jacuzzi tub. All of our other 9 rooms have a shower/tub combo. Thank you for your interest!
