Overall, had a very disappointing experience staying in Star Gap Cabin with Scenic Rentals in Red River Gorge. There were sooooo many mice in the walls and running across the floor and counters that we couldn’t sleep or relax. We had to move from the lower bedroom to the loft bedroom because mice were running into our bags and under the bed. A mouse climbed out of the oven control panel right in front of us. On the second night of our stay we found mouse poop on my pillow and from then on we couldn’t sleep fearing the mice were getting into our bags and bed. We decided to move all our bags, which we were already keeping zipped and elevated on the couch into our car because the mice were so active. The next day THE ONE tote I left out, containing my books and personal items, had mouse poop in it. We are now planning to strip down our bags in our front lawn to make sure we’re not bringing home a hitchhiker. Keep in mind, we brought very little food which we kept sealed away in the fridge and microwave, so even without much motivation the mice were running through our stuff. We realized the rental management knew about the pest issue because of sonic pest devices found around the cabin. However, we called after dropping off our key to explain that we felt renters shouldn’t stay there because of the number of mice in the cabin, giving them the benefit of the doubt that they did not know how many mice were in there during the night. I was very pleasant on the phone and kindly explained the nightmare of the last two days. They simply said: “I mean it’s a cabin in the woods so we’re used to pests, but thanks for letting us know. If you called us during your stay we would have come out with traps.” Make of that what you will, but I didn’t even attempt to ask for any kind of refund. I recommend staying with another rental group. We actually never met them in person because they called at 4:00pm to say they were closing early when we came to get our key, they normally close at 7:00pm and we got there at 5:00pm to collect our key left for us in an envelope. Hoping to save you from the mouse hunger games.

The location, directions to the cabin, and local area were great. The staff was very friendly and helpful from beginning to end. To summarize the experience: Lower your expectations. Bake's Burrow is probably a good place for 4 college aged to mid 20's guys to have a party weekend, but certainly not somewhere you'd want to bring your family for a nice 'cabin' weekend - and especially not a honeymoon, as the listing suggests.  The pictures in their own listing are likely pretty old. It would make a nice base camp for exploring the area or rock climbing, but it's closer to what you'd expect from a budget motel and not a place you'd go to just chill out for a few days and enjoy the cabin.  It was dirty, and in dire need of a deep cleaning and some basic general maintenance. (staff did offer to send the cleaning crew, but we gave it a once over on the first night and that got us through). It was advertised as 2 bathrooms, but was really 1.5, so all of us shared one dirty shower. The living room ceiling light fixture is missing, so it's very dark to the point it'd be hard to play board games, read, or do a puzzle. They do have two TVs, one is usable but you need to have your own Amazon or Apple account to watch anything, and there's no antenna for local channels. The pool table does exist, but it's unusable. There are no hangers or hooks to be found, and nowhere to rest your suitcase, so you'll be living out of your suitcase on the floor for your stay. If you brought a coat, there's nowhere to put it except on the couch or maybe on the floor of the closet. There is a fire pit, but no matches or kindling is provided, so bring your own. There's no real seating 'around' the fire pit, so bring your own chairs as well. If you've got the space in your car, I'd suggest you bring your own portable fire pit to use in the driveway. The furniture was in disrepair, and it looks like it was furnished with garage sale or thrift store finds. Cookware, dishes, flatware is all mismatched and also looks like it was from a thrift store. We used the grill once, but it was so rusty that each time you flipped a burger or closed the lid, chunks of rusty metal fell down to the ground. There are many windows, but the only ones that have coverings are the bathroom, single bedroom, and bottom of the basement stairs. You're well within view of at least one other cabin,  so if you're the modest type you'll want to bring a bathrobe or otherwise don't go to the kitchen in your underwear to make coffee. The Wi-Fi was really good, and after just a little detective work, we were able to figure out the password(hint, it's not the one on the directions, it's the one on the router).  Another positive, they say they only provide one roll of TP, we actually got three. We will not be staying here again due to the lack of basic cleanliness and due to our disappointment with our expectation vs reality. If you're OK with all that I noted above, this place might be good for you and at least you're coming in fully informed.  It is a cool location, you're not too far from the lake, and it's a good base camp for exploring.

Booked Heaven on a Hilltop for 3 nights in January as a fun gathering for grand kids after Christmas. Lets get right to it: Positives - Excellent view Wonderful area behind the cabin to Hike Great Game Room. Kids had a blast except when the ping pong ball rolled through the rails and fell 3 floors. Nice kitchen Jacuzzi was fun Great fire pit area Great appliances Negatives - Large table in Kitchen was great but somewhat big for this area. Hard to sit on ends of table. Showers did not remain at constant temperature. Cabin was dirty when arrived on stairs and under couches. Temperature was hard to maintain. Master suite was cold. You would walk into the Living Room area and thermostat would be set to 77. Walk to second floor and read thermometer on wall it would ready 96. I had to crack the window at night in second floor bedroom so it wouldn't be hotter than Hades! No real open area besides Living room. Laundry left in dryer. Needed access to dry swimsuites.

Thank you Scenic Cabin Rentals for saving our family vacation after VACASA.COM LEFT US HOMELESS (horrible company with absolutely no compassion)! We called Scenic Cabin Rentals after driving 9 hours to find out our rental thru Vacasa was not available and even though SCR had nothing immediately available, they bent over backwards to get a cabin ready for us so we didn't have to drive all the way back home! Thank you so much SCR, your compassion for us in this crazy world we live in was so TRULY APPRECIATED!!! And the cabin was lovely to boot! ❤
