I am a resident of Pikeville but had three friends coming in from out of town for a girls' weekend. So, I reserved four rooms at the Historic Mansion, and we could not have been more pleased. Reservations are made through the Hampton Inn, but there is a private parking area behind the house. The house is very clean, and each room has a private bath. We especially enjoyed the sitting room adjoining two of our rooms upstairs. Guests are within easy walking distance of the Expo Center, Dueling Barrels, downtown shops and restaurants, etc. Prices are reasonable, and there is a butler's pantry as well as mini-fridges in the rooms to meet your needs. As a guest, you are allowed access to breakfast at the Hampton as well as their pool as there is not a staff/owner at the house to provide breakfast as in a traditional B&B. However, it doesn't take more than a minute or two to walk to the Hampton.

Bummed that when we got there we found out that this is not a real B&B as food and service is done by the Hampton Inn which sits an alley and parking garage away. Fortunately we were the only ones in the house the night we were there, so we were able to use the living room for gathering. If you like an Innkeeper and real morning cooked breakfast, look elsewhere,

If you frequent B&Bs, you will know this is not a true one. You check in at hotel, never meet owners, and don't have a true B&B breakfast here. You cross the parking lot and eat the continental breakfast at the inn. The rooms are very nice, but in reality, this is an extension of the hotel.

The Pikeville Historic Mansion is wonderful place to experience. It is affiliated with the Hampton Inn which I have stayed at before. The room we stayed in was newly decorated and very cozy. The bed was wonderfuly comfortable and was cold when we arrived but we turned on the heater, went to eat and upon our return was just right. We were told that the home served as a hospital during the Civil War. While I was showering and my husband was across the room, a wooden hanger in the armoire came flying across the room. Ghosts? Maybe because my husband had laid out blue clothing to wear? Who knows. But I've also heard that the apparition of a young boy is seen in the building. Our first encounter. Very intereting. My husband tried to get the hanger to come off by itself but was unable. Anyway, the only reason we did not rate this excellent is that you have to go for breakfast at the Hampton Inn and so this is not a traditional B & B where you get a wonderful gourmet breakfast. Otherwise, it is a place you will want to stay. We did not rate the fitness center of pool because we did not use either.

Perfect place to relax, lots of space, extra living room, coffee, cookies and soda available, total privacy as separated from near-by Hampton hotel; place with a nice historic touch, good to start to explore the Hatfield - McCoy feud; The mansion is a pearl in Pikeville
