The Seelbach Hilton Louisville garners appreciation for its historical elegance, with guests frequently lauding the hotel's ambiance, including the refined decor and architecture. While the prime downtown location is a highlight, drawing attention for its convenience and walkability, some guests have mentioned that the rooms could benefit from modern updates and that noise can be an issue.
Cleanliness is consistently commended, as well as the prompt and professional service. Opinions on value are divided, with praise for the hotel's charm and comfort but some criticism regarding outdated elements and additional costs.

My husband previously stayed here on a business trip and thought it would be a perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. He decided to upgrade and booked the Seelbach Suite for us, but unfortunately the suite was disappointing. There is no place to plug in electronics on or near the desk in the living area. Some of the modern furnishings in the suite's living area detract from the historic charm. The bathroom needs an upgrade. There is no counter space and the grout in the tub/shower needs freshening. The toilet ran all night. My husband said the standard king room that he stayed in previously was much nicer (and less expensive). The buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant was outstanding. Corey makes the best omelets! The common areas of the hotel are lovely.

Amazing hotel and beautiful history and architecture, but the most incredible part of the hotel is Patrick. He is a wonderful historian and storyteller. He made our entire trip perfect. When we return to Louisville, finding him will be our first plan of action. He is a wealth of knowledge, not just of the Seelbach hotel, but the colorful history of Louisville all together. Highly recommend the Seelbach hotel and finding Patrick and learning from him

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
The hotel has an amazing history and breathtaking architecture, and the staff was lovely (especially Kevin who managed the lobby/main entry with a kind, welcoming and very helpful demeanor). It's also located in a great part of town.
The rooms definitely need some love (replace old carpets, repaper the walls, polish the furniture, wash the windows, etc.) but the bedding was very nice... extremely comfy including GREAT pillows. (Heavenly!) Overall though, the rooms could definitely use some deep cleaning at the very least.
It bears noting that the valet staff went above the call of duty when we thought we'd left a valuable item in our car (we weren't 100% sure) – they took it upon themselves to search the car for us (after they'd just parked it and had already come back inside). They saved us a lot of time and aggravation, and (to our relief) found the item between the back seats. Thank you, valet staff!
Honestly, the hotel would be hugely improved (and would fully honor its amazing history) if they'd invest in much-needed room updates. Unfortunately, I won't stay there again until that happens. But the possibilities for this landmark beauty are endless. It really is a gem in the heart of Louisville. It just needs a little love to make it shine.

As a destination this hotel is centrally located. It's very easy to get to within the city. Arriving can be a bit chaotic as there is an Embassy Suites Hotel directly across the street and the street seems to be a bit narrow. Access to the interstates in and out of the city is very easy to maneuver. There is also a great walking area with many restaurants just on the next block. There is no shopping in this area though which I was looking for. There are several distilleries within walking distance also. The lobby and main floor of the hotel is beautiful. The food served in their bar is a step above your normal bar food and the wait staff was great. The rooms are not in the best shape. They are a bit dated and not the cleanest. We had signed up online for one room and upon arrival were given another room with no explanation as to why the change. The room that we were assigned upon arriving had black mold (more than a little) in the shower and on the ceiling outside of the shower. We asked to be moved and they did move us to the room we had originally picked online - go figure. It was basically the same room with only a bit of black mold in the shower. We ended up on the tenth floor in the first room near the elevators. The elevators were not a problem, however, they have a ballroom on the other side of the 10th floor and it was very noisy Saturday night with an event going on. Our traveling friends were also on the 10th floor much further from the elevators and they also had a sleepless night. Also if there are any musical events going on the walking area the noise was nuts so if you're looking for a quiet night of sleep maybe stay somewhere else.

Staying at the Seelbach Hilton in Louisville was an exquisite experience. The historic architecture and refined decor created an ambiance of timeless elegance, complemented by a spacious and impeccably clean room. Dining at the Oakroom restaurant was a culinary delight, with each meal surpassing expectations. The service was exceptional, particularly from the valet, Faris, who was extraordinarily helpful and responsible. His professionalism and attention to detail ensured our stay was seamless and stress-free, leaving us eager to return.

We loved the valet and front of house staff at the Seelbach. Mr. Kevin came up to the room just to help us get organized and even shared the hotel’s ghost story with us upon request. As we were leaving Jonah helped us pack up our car and get on the road safely! They were the best and both very helpful!

The Seelbach stylishly accommodated me and my two cats; when I got down on the floor to play with them, I observed that the carpet in my room was the cleanest hotel carpet I have ever experienced. The parking valets (Joseph and Hayden) went above and beyond in helping me out, too. It's a gorgeous building, but these little details are what really made my stay feel luxurious.

While the hotel itself is historic and has some beautiful architecture, the rooms are a little rundown. However, the bed is very comfortable and the water pressure good. The reason for the 2 stars is the noise. Our room literally vibrates from the bass of the music down the street. It went until after 10:00 on Friday night, which is at least a reasonable hour. But it began again at 5:00 am Saturday morning - with a bass so loud it woke us up vibrating again, and which is unfathomable why anyone would start blasting music that loud at 5:00 am on a Saturday. We were gone most of the day Saturday, but it was going strong upon our return at 7:30 Saturday evening, and at 11:00 I called down to the front desk to see if there was any idea when it would stop. I was told “oh, that’s the concert on 4th street. It won’t be over until midnight.” It’s really unfortunate to have finally gotten away for a couple of nights from our 3 small children to get even less sleep. I can’t believe the hotels downtown don’t get constant complaints if this is what it’s like. I’ve stayed in hotels in cities all over the world, from NYC to LA, but big city noise isn’t like having a subwoofer outside your window while you’re trying to sleep. I realize the concert is not the hotel’s fault, although the front desk seemed a little annoyed when I called like I was being unreasonable asking when the noise might stop. But I wish someone had written a similar review so we could have known not to book if we wanted any normal level of sleep, or simply just peace and quiet before midnight and until a decent hour in the morning.

The history is what sold us on this hotel! The connection of this particular hotel to prohibition gangsters (Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, and George Remus) as well as the impact it had on F Scott Fitzgerald and the Great Gatsby is just too cool!
As soon as you walk into the lobby of this hotel, it just exudes early 1900s elegance. From the marble columns to the chandeliers to the gold colored accents - you feel like you're stepping back in time.
One of the coolest things was a tour the night security guard Patrick gave us. This is a MUST DO whether you are a guest of the hotel or simply poking your head in to check it out! Patrick showed us the amazing Rathskeller room, the "Oak" room (where Al Capone played cards and had an escape tunnel), and the wedding room which inspired F Scotts Fitzgerald to use this room as the site of Tom & Daisy Buchannan's wedding.
The location of this hotel was also wonderful. It is just outside the bars and restaurants of Fourth Street Live! It is also walkable distance to many of the distilleries and attractions on Whiskey Row. Despite its excellent location, there is very little street noise which was great!
There were two potential negatives:
1) The rooms are VERY small. It was fine for us, since we really did not much spend much time in the hotel. But these rooms are some of the smallest we've ever stayed in.
2) The restaurant downstairs in the hotel is very overpriced. This hotel does have a bit of space for conventions, and I feel like they are used to having tabs covered by employers who send people to attend these conventions. The food is on the higher side. But the bourbon is outrageously priced! Find somewhere else to sample your bourbon. It's worth paying an Uber to escape these prices.
All in all, we did have a wonderful experience here. If I was in town, I would gladly stay again. However, I may opt to get a bigger room and I would certainly not be eating or drinking at the hotel again.

My husband and I gave a gift to our granddaughter of an overnight at this beautiful hotel for her wedding night. Having stayed there in the past, I knew it would be a lovely experience for them. On the day of her wedding I contacted the front desk to make sure all was in order and to let them know of the occasion of the couple's stay. In response, someone upgraded their room to a suite (at no extra cost) and included a welcome gift of Bourbon Balls and a nice note. May I just say how thrilling this was for the young couple! They were quite taken aback by the exquisite luxury of the room and the gift.
Kuddos to everyone at The Seelbach!
