We had a wonderful stay at the 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville. We stayed in the Cyclone Room and it was like nothing we have seen before. The entire hotel has fun features (stop in the bathroom off of the lobby). I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Under normal circumstances this would be a purely positive review. We arrived Sunday, 9/26. Check-in was great and dinner at Proof was spectacular! We were in town for my wife's brain surgery/procedure and anticipated checking out Tuesday morning, 9/28. Unfortunately, there were some complications and I had to call from the hospital to ask to extend our stay a day. Here's where it went off the rails: Our rate for Sunday was $199, for Monday $249. The person said, "Yes, I can extend your stay, but the rate might be different." My interpretation of "might be different" is that it would likely go up, but "might" implies not by much. I asked about hospital stay rates (Hilton is very generous in this regard at many locations) and the answer was no. Ultimately had to extend the stay again one more night, no mention of rates. Checked out, Did not receive a paper copy even though gentleman said he could, but it was purely emailed instead. No problem. So what was the "might be a different rate"? $379 per night. Of course there is no recourse, but I did feel duped. Had I know, I would have simply checked out Tuesday morning as planned and found a less expensive place near the hospital in Brownsboro, given we weren't really getting to enjoy the room anyway; basically just store our luggage. What can you do? Life goes on, but I am soured towards the brand.

My wife and I recently stayed two nights at 21C while visiting family in Louisville. We’ve stayed in the hotel many times and always enjoyed it. However, this time we were disappointed as the hotel no longer provides daily room cleaning ( though I’m sure they find their way in to rooms to re-stock the minibars). The issue I have isn’t the cleaning itself…it is that we weren’t informed when we checked in - nor was there any note or signage in the room regarding this policy. So…when we got back at the end of our day and found the room as we’d left it, we went to the front desk and complained. They, of course, explained that due to staff shortages (not COVID) they only clean rooms after three days. Fine…I just think that this should have been made clear on the hotel website, at check in and with some sort of sign in the room. I’d also say that the apparent staff shortage ( and, hence, lower wage bill) is NOT returned to guests with either lower prices or enhanced amenities. We still love the hotel and this doesn’t put us off coming back, I just think that management needs to make absolutely sure that guests know what to expect and that reduced services should, in some way, be compensated.

Cool funky little hotel in the downtown area Very diversity friendly Really nice people Really big rooms An amazing art gallery associated with it downstairs, in the rooms, in the hallways in the elevators and generally everywhere you look... A lot of which is by local artists.. A really nice place to stay particularly if you like art and want to see some of the local scene.

I enjoyed this hotel so much. First, the location can't be beat; you can easily walk to every bourbon distillery on Bourbon Row, the Louisville Slugger Museum is practically next door, and the Muhammad Ali museum is down the street. You can valet park your car with the hotel, or there is an inexpensive parking garage right next door. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable with conveniently placed lighting, a nice view, a coffee maker, and an empty minifridge (looks like it used to be a minibar before Covid) that is good for chilling water bottles and snacks. And the art! There is art everywhere: not just in the galleries but in the hallways, the elevators, around random corners. This is quality art, too, by major contemporary artists whose names I recognized. There are little placards about each piece that give good context for what you're seeing. (I read a couple reviews saying the art was "silly" or whatever; these people are nuts). The hotel front desk and the maids were very helpful. Among other things, the front desk has a printed list of recommended local restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - be sure to ask for that. Also you can get a chilled bottle of water from the front desk any time which is great because it's HOT in Lousville in the summer. The restaurant Proof in the hotel was terrific, I reviewed it separately. Due to Covid (I think), the restaurant is only open for dinner/room service on certain nights. This was kind of a bummer and I encourage the hotel to open the restaurant for more meals (including lunch) when possible. But there are lots of alternatives. Every morning for breakfast I walked one block to Blackbeard's for coffee and fabulous made-on-premises pastries like a cheddar scone or a lemon-blueberry muffin. For lunch, if I didn't feel like a dine-in restaurant, I walked a few blocks to Pokehana which makes fresh, light Asian bowls to order. Again due to Covid, there is no daily maid service in the rooms. However the maids are frequently to be found in the hallways cleaning rooms that have been vacated and they are happy to give you more water bottles or coffee pods or take your trash. If you want fresh towels you can get them from the maids, or ask the front desk to send them up. I loved my stay here and will be back.

Hi Traveler, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We are thrilled to see that you had such a good time at 21c Louisville. Proof on Main is now open for daily dinner service and we are working hard to restore bfast and lunch. The minibars are now filled with soda/beers/snacks and all the good things that should be in a minibar. Truly appreciate your comments about the art :). Next time you are coming to Louisville please let me know. Sincerely, Andrew Carter | General Manager acarter@21cHotels.com 21cLouisville.com
