Detailed Reviews
I was a little hesitant to book at the Hancock as it doesn't have on site staff but I am glad I did. I had some hiccups with the check-in process due to my email blocking communication but I was able to easily get in touch with someone over the phone and got entrance into the room. The room itself was very nice and clean and the location is minutes away from multiple bourbon distilleries and both fast food and restaurants and bars. We stayed one night and the location felt safe and we loved being able to walk to so many locations.

I understand that when a property states you can't check in until 3pm, one must expect to wait until 3:00 to enter. Having been asked the previous day to send my confirmation number and my cell number, I was expecting some type of response that I was told I would receive. Calling the property at 2:20pm on my day of arrival, I was told that I would receive a code via email at 2:30pm that would become active at 3pm. It was only the third time I ended up calling an apathetic-sounding person who identified himself as "Brooks" that I was finally provided a code to enter the property and the room I paid for. That third call I had to make was well after 3pm.
Once finally allowed to enter the hotel and my room, I found the room to be pleasantly stocked with a near full kitchen and a nice bathroom. The A/C and the bed along with other furniture in the room were comfortable.
I recommend using some type of footwear as there were sharp edges to the carpeted area and random items not vacuumed off the floor. The toilet in the room wasn't completely secured to the floor and jostled around. The shower doors wouldn't stay closed and so water got on the floor. Walls are thin. Anyone talking in the hallway or in the parking lot could be heard throughout various areas of the hotel.
I was sent to sample a few hotels in this area for a location where a company I work for might send employees to stay while we're conducting business in northern KY. Based on what ended up as unpredictable and unpleasant check-in procedures, the Hancock House will not yet make that list. I'd suggest any guest to be prepared to call if the same unpleasant predicament happens upon check in time.

Hancock House is lovely! The building has amazing old bones and architecture, but the room we had was updated with all of the amenities you could need. Beautiful natural light, quality linens, comfy furniture in the sitting area, and a fully stocked kitchenette!
You're given a personal interior/exterior door code with your reservation, so you don't really even have to see another human (if that's your vibe). There is plenty of reserved off-street parking and the streets surrounding are easy to navigate. The neighborhood is also amazing with plenty of bars, restaurants and local shops within walking distance. I would definitely consider this over a hotel or Airbnb stay. Thanks for having us!

We are situated at the corner of Hancock & Jefferson, only minutes away from the some awesome restaurants and shops - hopefully you were able to get some bourbon while you were in town. Again, thank you for staying at our new property as you were one of our first guests! We look forward to having you the next time you are in Louisville. #UniquelyLouisville #StayLikeALocal

The good news:
The location, amenities, and room itself are all just about perfect. Especially for the price, we were very impressed by the quality of the furnishings and how roomy the space was. We really, *really* wanted to love this place.
The bad news:
Our door lock seemed to be broken in that we could lock it from the inside but not from the outside, which forced us to put our valuables in our car and just trust that no one would come traipsing into our unlocked room when we weren't home. To us, this is borderline unacceptable, although after calling we at least got in-person attention to the issue (but no resolution).
The check-in was a little rough. The email we received gave us a door code that got us into the building but not into our room (the email also said we had a two-night stay even though we only had it for one night). After calling, a new door code was given and all was well. The man on the phone was very kind and considerate.
Other small things: the Roku TV would not work, saying it could not connect to the server. The wastebaskets should have bags in them. The body wash was basically empty in the bathroom, and there was no toilet paper holder installed so we just kept the toilet paper on the sink countertop.

Wow this is such a nice place to stay -they even leave you some snacks and water and the lights magically are on when you need them. You just check yourself in with an email you go through a secure door and then also another door to get into where you're staying. There's pots and pans and utensils anything that you would need and I will be back. There's also a great little restaurant I think it's connected to this building -smells wonderful. It has a industrial modern vibe has nice big windows and the air conditioning and heating is spot on. And they have free parking which is hard to fine in Louisville. There are also cameras everywhere so I feel pretty safe about my car. Keep up the good work it's clean and I love the nice touches.

After reading other reviews, I didn't panic when my check in code hadn't been received by 3pm because we were running late on our arrival time. When I didn't have it by 4pm I called and was told that the code had been emailed at 2:50pm. I had already checked my spam folder so I asked for it to be re emailed which they immediately did and I received my code. After that entry was not an issue. The room is clean, spacious and well appointed. The 12 foot ceilings and large windows are incredible. You can hear a lot of noise from the street, but hey you are in downtown Louisville. The bed was not the most comfortable I have ever slept on, but it was not the worse. The full kitchen is nice to have even for a weekend stay, which brings me to my two suggestions. If toiletries are provided, it would go a long way for the comfort of your guests to provide dish soap. We only used cups and glasses and one spoon, but I felt terrible leaving them in the sink because I had no means to wash them. Also, 2 cups of coffee per guest per day is hotel standard. We had read the reviews and packed our own, but it's such a small thing to do to make your guest feel appreciated and welcome. All in all, I would stay again and recommend this establishment to family and friends.

The Hancock House is the perfect stay for people who want to enjoy nearby bars and restaurants situated in the Nulu area which is part of downtown Louisville. The Hancock House is also within walking distance of Rabbit Hole Distillery for all the bourbon lovers! Check-in is self- sufficient without the hassle of waiting in line to check-in at a front desk. I don't know about you but I am usually anxious to get to my room after a long day of traveling or excited to get my day started, so anywhere I can save time the better! The rooms are spacious and lovely with comfortable beds and nice linens. My room came with a kitchen as I believe all the rooms do (could be wrong) which made me feel right at home. I particularly enjoyed the sunlight, and I secretly love the cedarwoodish body care in the washroom :)

Such an amazing review, AmberSquiggy! The entire purpose of the Hancock House Louisville is to have you explore all that NuLu and Downtown Louisville has to offer. All of our guests absolutely love the Touchless Hospitality: easy check-in/out, little to no interaction with staff (unless needed). Louisville is all about bourbon, so we know you will be back! We look forward to hearing from you soon. #UniquelyLouisville #StayLikeALocal

First time ever in Louisville and took a chance on Hancock House. It was a winner. It was a little odd to book a non-staffed “hotel”, but it works. The location is a conveniently short walk (15 min) to all that Whiskey Row has to offer. It’s also close to some nice restaurants and distilleries just around the block. The room is nice and comes with a full kitchen. As mentioned in some other reviews, some street noise is present but easily negated by ear plugs. We were missing hand soap upon arrival but a simple phone call resolved that issue. Location felt safe. Price was easily $50+/night less than anything else in the area. If you just want a clean and convenient location at a fair price and can do without hotel standards like a restaurant, a bar, etc - this place is for you.

We stayed in the Hancock house and unfortunately, did not have a great experience. First, I got a confirmation email but no entry code. Three calls and an email later I was given a room number and code by phone. When I got to the hotel, my code got me into the building but not the room. Then, when I finally got through to a human on the phone, they met me (not wearing a mask) and let me into the room only to find that it wasn't turned over. I was left waiting in the hall for them to find another room for us. The room we eventually were put in was well-designed, but it was not turned over either. There was trash in all the cans, dishes in the sink, hair everywhere. We had to make our own bed with sheets we found in the closet and there was only one towel. At this point it was after 11 and I did not feeI like it was worth it to try and get through to someone by phone. We never even got a new door code so we couldn't leave the room without being locked out. Luckily, our stay was just one short night.
While I understand that mistakes happen, what I cannot understand is why, after this experience, I had to work so hard to get any kind of response from the company. I emailed this company twice, and messaged them on social media, and still received no reply. I finally called and spoke to a person who, thankfully, did refund my room fee immediately. However, even in that conversation, there was no apology or explanation for our stressful and exhausting experience (we were up until almost midnight cleaning the room and making the bed). The person I spoke to seemed to have no interest in making the situation right or keeping me as a customer, it just seemed like they wanted to get off the phone as quickly as possible. Overall, while it seems like the idea for this hotel is really cool and the amenities are top-notch, the customer service is beyond disappointing. As nice as this place was, I would not stay here ever again.

The location is perfect - a great neighborhood with lots of options for eating, drinking, and enjoying a cool part of Louisville. The room was very nicely decorated, but as some other reviewers noted, there was a lack of attention to detail. The bathroom was nice, but some of the toiletry bottles in the shower were empty when we arrived. No trash can in the bathroom meant that all our trash had to be carried out and put into the kitchen bin. When I opened the kitchen cabinet to throw out some floss, I discovered the trash from the previous guest had not been emptied (and had some sanitary products in there - gross). Especially during a pandemic, this is not what I wanted to see. I would rather have a less aesthetic room that is SUPER clean than a kinda dirty room that has trendy decor. The room was pretty comfy and easy to access, but overall lacks attention to important details.
