Welcome to one of Australia’s most exclusive luxury retreats. Built in 1856, Kingsford The Barossa is picturesque venue that has been lovingly restored to become one of Australia’s finest luxury retreats – a gem nestled amongst riverbanks and rolling hills, surrounded by beautiful gum trees and the native Australian landscape. Tucked away and only 45 minutes from the bustling city centre, the iconic 225-acre property is set on the edge of the breathtaking wine country of South Australia. Once home to a wealthy nineteenth-century pastoralist, nothing rivals exclusive access to the 16-suite retreat which can host up to 32 people. The original homestead, oozing with history and charm since its inception in 1856, is home to eight luxury double suites – each with a unique ensuite of decadent taste. With each varying in size and style, our guests can experience a mixture of comfort and luxury while staying at Kingsford The Barossa. Modern, luxurious and overflowing with timeless character, the new expansion includes four new east-facing View Suites that ensure guests can enjoy uninterrupted views of rolling hills through floor-to-ceiling glass, with access to private courtyards. Another addition is the new expansive Conservatory, which is the perfect location for hosting special events at any time of day with the backdrop of idyllic pastoral views.

Great stay. Beautiful property. Fantastic staff that made the trip memorable. The restaurant produces top quality meals and caters to any dietary requirements. The owner was very friendly and politely introduced himself over breakfast. Wine cellar is amazing. We will be back.

This is truly one of the most beautiful country boutique hotels I have ever stayed in. We stayed in the new modern suites. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and my 30th. Greeted with macaroons on arrival. Loved the bowling alley at night. Decor was stunning. Views of meadows and cattle was lovely. The owner was friendly and greeted every guest. Couldn’t fault it!

We couldn't fault our stay here. A perfect base for relaxing and exploring all the Barossa has to offer. The property is surrounded with rolling hills and is finished to an exceptionally high standard. Food and service was excellent.

My family love our stay at The Kingsford. The kids enjoyed the bowling alley keeping them entertained all throughout and the food/service was "majestic" as my son described it. My husband and I were fascinated by "The Vault" and having three bars within the premises is amazing :-) If one needs peace and quiet vibe with a touch of elegance, this is the place to be.

Staying at Kingsford The Barossa was a perfect weekend away from the hustle and bustle of city life. A beautiful, exquisitely restored, boutique homestead. We were treated like we were the only ones there although it was relatively full. From the log fires, beautifully presented homestead, cleanliness and perfect service it really was a wonderful weekend away.

My husband and I recently spent 4 nights in a View Suite at Kingsford. We have previously stayed at Kingsford but many years ago. The location is perfect, just off the Sturt Highway (but quiet). So fast and easy to drive from Adelaide airport to Kingsford in less than 40 minutes. The View Villas are new, generous, and luxe. The staff are superb - a big thank you to David, James & Shelley. The Kingsford feels more like a Luxe Lodge than a hotel. Very warm and welcoming. The food is nothing short of amazing, highest quality and so generous. Lovely to see the owner spending a lot of time with his guests. We can't wait to return to Kingsford and would highly recommend it.

Driver’s Run was the country house used for 7 seasons of McLeod’s Daughters is now an uber-posh hotel, just the place to rest up after a long day tasting, sorry driving, in the Barossa. The slightly down-at-heel working farmhouse mansion, was still doing the job it was built for in 1856, until being bought for the TV series site. The TV crews left long ago and it would have been easy to let the roof fall in and walls crumble, and were it not for the Ahrens, that would most likely have been the outcome. The mansion was built from stone ballast from ships coming to South Australia’s Victorian businesses, taking Australian goods back to Scotland., leaving the stone behind. The large estate is set only 50 minutes from Adelaide’s airport, deep in the romantic Barossa valley. Many of Australia’s best wines come from nearby and are represented in the mansion’s cellar. 8 Suites in the mansion are complimented by a further 4 in the newly finished extension, 3 in Meg’s Cottage, and 1 in the Stonemason’s Cottage. The new wing stands only a few metres from the old back door where once a screened verandah sheltered tired residents. The wing is home to an enormous conservatory event space. At one end is a delicious place to eat, drink, and keep warm in front of the fire, while outside, a pool bar offers outdoor dining experiences. Underground is a 25metre stone hall with 6 wine vaults. Its dining table is almost the full length of the room, and is adjoined by the original mansion’s intimate cellar at one end, and a unique bar and twin-lane bowling alley at the other. Chef Stewart and Sommelier David are charged with curating the wine and food, while other staff cater for guest’s whims in a way that is caring and thoughtful, but never over-familiar or intrusive. Cocktails and other drinks can be had any time, and although the wine collections nears being the best in the country (including a complete set of my favourite Hill of Grace), the food is to die for. It would be easy to feel like the lord and lady of the manor. The facilities are open only to house guests, like many top-class hotels found in Europe, and with 16 rooms, the place will never feel like a chain hotel, no matter how posh those hotels are. There is a pillow menu for the picky, and 250 hectares of open space for the plucky. I’d be happy to sit reading a book on the very verandah McLeod’s daughters were often found sipping cool drinks. I stayed in one of the smaller suites in the main homestead, called the Fotheringham. The room’s names celebrate the history of the property, including previous owners, the traditional owners, the stonemasons, and even Meg, the fictional McLeod’s equally fictional sister. Allowing for the “easy access” nature of my suite, it suits someone not wanting to climb stairs. Despite that, it feels homely and modern. There is little of the 1856 interior about the private rooms, as the mansion had been a TV set previously. My smallish room lacked a place for an open suit case. Surely a fold-out valet-style stand could be provided. Two other tiny complaints for a room costing near $500 a night was that the towels felt quite thin, and there were several black marks on a pillow case. I’ve no doubt both would have been instantly rectified should I have mentioned it. The mattress was comfortable, but I like feather pillows, and will certainly request those should I be lucky enough to stay again. The place is self-contained, so ask for a hamper to take an ATV for a hilltop picnic. There is no undercover parking. Sure, city hotels have 24hour service, and shopping close by, but Kingsford The Barossa feels intimate, and a step above what any large and impersonal hotel could ever possibly provide. The only thing that could have made the stay more perfect would have been a run around the property in the Drover’s Run ute! The larger suites run up to $1800 a night and all suites have a 2 night minimum. They cater for larger parties, so I imagine booking the entire facility for a night as we did, would warrant a special quote. Finally, a special commendation to the staff one and all, who were as first class as the facility.
