Detailed Reviews
Amazing views overlooking the ocean! The breakfast was a feast, and made for a great start to a day of exploring Pico. Helen is a very generous and attentive host with great tips for exploring the island. Laundry service is also available for a reasonable price, always helpful for those on longer trips!

We were island hopping with my wife during our honeymoon and spent around 2 days at Pico. We stayed at John's and Pamela's house and the only thing we regret is that we did not spend a few days more. The island was beautiful, but this review should be more about this place. The house / room was very clean, at a great location, with beautiful view over the shore - with the opportunity to spot whales. What really made this place special have been John and Pamela. John takes great care of his visitors, recommends where to go, where not to go, provides self-made maps with tips. If you are nice to him, he might even drop you for great walks and more. When he found out that we were on our honeymoon, he insisted on preparing dinner for us, which was great! You will also have the opportunity to have great philosophical and economical discussions :-)

My stay at Miradouro Da Papalva is hard to put in words as i felt overwhelmed with the tender Love and care of Helena, Jon and Pam. It is such a beautiful place, with seaviews all around, even from my bed!!, hills and the beautiful mountain of Pico just in the backyard.. Every mornig i woke up with the smell of fresh coffe and homemade jams, being spoiled and pampered by Helena. The location of the house is stunning, the room has a very nice atmosphere is big and the bed is nice and comfortable, with views on the sea- and coastline! I felt relay welcome and at home, thank you so much for this beautiful stay! You've found a special place in my heart and i will deinateley come back to your place!

We enjoyed a wonderful stay as the guests of John, Helene and Paola in this lovely house. Our room (Sophia) was huge with sitting room, bedroom and full bathroom. Our hosts were great - friendly, courteous, helpful and always willing to go the extra mile for their guests. The standard of the House is high and maintained that way with room service every day. Breakfast and BBQs are taken on the terrace and in the round which helps to create a lovely atmosphere for all the guests. We shall return.

Host John provided great advice and directions as well as a nice room. It was conveniently close to the whaling trips we took out of Lajes. Only a couple of English channels on the cable TV, but a nice DVD library to make up for it. A good value, and charming ambiance. We particularly appreciated John's dining tips.

Room Tip:Â It doesn't look like it from the map, but Lajes is the best city on Pico to vacation near.

After a few days of not sleeping very well I finally got my sleep in a very comfortable bed. The views from the house and look outs our fantastic, plan to go back next year to climb the mountain of Pico and to continue the talks I had with John. Great place thanks for the hospitality.

Everything you can read here is absolutely true! We were at Miradouro for our honeymoon and John organized for us a very nice 'welcome surprise'. His barbecue (we had chicken and fish) is fingers-licking-good! We gave him a new nickname, that is KING of barbecue! We arrived there as guests and we left as friends... John bought and cooked for us also two delicious lobsters for our latest dinner in Sao Joao... one of the best food we have ever eaten. The breakfast (you have vouchers for two places nearby) by Fatima was absolutely perfect - at 10 am the woman from the bakery brings fresh croissants every morning. We met also a very nice family from Holland and we had three dinners all together in John's kitchen, that you can use if you 'book' it. Thanks also to the wonderful Pamela :) and to 'our holiday cat' Collie, that everyday came to us for his special good morning!

The guesthouse is extremely nice and in a fantastic position with a beautiful view of the ocean. It is also convenient to explore both coasts of the island being close to both Lajes and Sao Roque.
The rooms (3 in total) are big and comfortable with everything you need from TV to fridge. Guests can also use the barbecue outside to prepare their own food. In any case I would suggest to test John’s (the owner) ability to grill very tasty fish and meat.
The owners make you feel part of the family and are willing to give you advice and help to make the most out of your stay in Pico. It was absolutely a gorgeous stay for us and I would love to come back again!

I found this guest house on Trip Advisor and I'm glad I did.
John and Pamela made our stay just perfect and John is very knowledgable
about what to see and do on the island. He is very knowledgable on Portuguese
history too... The Guest house rooms met our needs completely. We loved the comfortable beds which had great linens (100% cotton), and plush towels. Attention to detail was definitely well thought of by John and Pamela. They have everything you need for equipment to cook outside also. John offers to barbecue whatever you want after
sight-seeing and Pam is an outstanding chef.
On our last night, John and Pamela made us a delicious
fish barbecue that was delicious. For dessert, Pamela made us home-made
Italian fried dough which was a treat. Our children are already asking when
we can go back. This is a true home-away-from home. As for the island of
PICO, truly beautiful. We loved the pools at Sao Roque, Madelena, and the
natural pools which are scattered around the island. The whale watch departing
from Lajes was the best we've seen. Don't forget the whale museum which was
very interesting.
Oh yes, and there is absolutely no musty smell at all in these rooms we stayed in.
We hope to be back again!
