Shaker Village in Kentucky was established by the Shaker sect in the early 1800s and was very advanced for its time. After falling into disrepair in the 1920s local efforts were made to restore the 3000 acre property. A guided tour will cover the Shaker philosophy and how this resulted in a unique community. A guided walking tour is available... More

We have been to Shaker Village several other times and found it to be quiet and peaceful, which is what were looking for this trip. We stayed in the East Sisters building and had a "suite", basically 2 small connecting which was perfect for us. The rooms were immaculate and appeared to have been recently renovated. No flat pillows here!... More

My sister and I recently visited Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, KY and spent 2 nights in the East Family Dwelling. Visiting the Village is like stepping back to the time of the Shakers in Kentucky. Be sure to visit the Museum showcasing their furniture, clothing and lifestyle. At the Meeting House you can see a presentation of Shaker dancing.... More

We took three kids, twelve and under and had a hard time keeping them entertained. Most of the talks and lectures were geared more for adults. Sometimes there were multiple presentations at once so you had to pick between them, but it was educational and the staff was nice.

I remember visiting lovely Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill as a kid in the early 1970s; I especially liked staying in their trundle bed. Well, the trundle beds are no more (the maids were hurting their backs when they pulled them out to make them), but it's still an outstanding venue for families. Our family of four (two adults and... Nice place to stay in Kentucky if you want to experience the history of the Shakers. We stayed in a suite in the sisters building. Pros - Powerful air conditioning that you could control which was great because it was really hot when we visited. - Fresh and clean bedding - Lots of fun activities to do in the village... More

After being on the motorcycle for 10 days, we were ready for some R & R and found the peaceful and serene nature of Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill to be just that! We stayed overnight in the marvelously restored 1811 Old Stone Shop with its unique personality and charm. It was almost like being a part of history with... More

We visited over the 4th weekend for 2 days and were very impressed. We stayed in the West 3 sisters shop house in a queen room. Next door in the larger building was a fridge and microwave and common areas we could use. The buildings had great explanations of every facet of Shaker life. The costumed interpreters and artisans were... More

Short Version: clean, a/c worked well, very comfortable bed, quiet atmosphere, modern conveniences, good rate, delicious food. Detailed: This place is quite the gem. My husband and I stayed at the Old Stone Shop on the third floor. This building preserved the historic nature while having the necessary updates (lots of plugs, a flat screen tv, wifi, nicely updated bathroom).... More

I am so glad I was able to experience Shaker Village. There are many great things about this place. First is the history. It is so cool to be able to sleep in such old buildings that were once used by the Shakers. The rooms have been updated so you have a modern bathroom and a comfortable bed. But to... More
