Our stay at Embassy Suites Overland Park was overall a wonderful stay! I was a little worried by some of the more recent poor reviews, and there are things that for sure need to be improved on, but we had a really great time on our vacation!
We had rooms 520 and 520 for 4 nights. Both rooms were clean and furnished nicely. Most of the room looked new. Our shower in 521 was a walk in shower with glass doors which was really nice! My parents room in 520 was a standard hotel shower/tub combo. Both had some mildew or minor mold issues that could be taken care of with bleach and some new caulk. Both rooms had a beautiful blue couch with lots of throw pillows, which were needed because the couch, although pretty, was quite stiff. I found the mattress in the bedroom to be incredibly hard as well, but the pillows and bedding were actually very nice! Our 12 year said the mattress on the sofa bed was very uncomfortable and he could feel all of the springs. We put extra blankets down to try to make it a little softer for him. There was a small mini bar area with a sing, microwave, ice bucket, real glasses, a Kurig and a mini fridge. Our kurig didn't work but the one in my parents room did. The mini fridge was a good size and held all of the food and drinks we brought with us. We also had a cooler for some larger items. The rooms have a cute table and with 2 chairs in the living room and the table had outlets as well as usb ports (so did the nightstands-which is a huge plus!). The in room AC's worked well, which was much appreciated with the heat advisory in place during our stay. I will agree with one recent reviewer about the AC in the common areas not being very strong.
It was hot in the elevator that worked. They did open up the Service Elevator to guests, which was nice, but it was also very hot inside as well.
Our son enjoyed the pool and the hot tub, although we made him get out of the hot tub the first night because it was very dirty. It was much better the next day. It's a small indoor pool area, but it wasn't busy when we went. My husband enjoyed the fitness center and the equipment available.
There is no On-Site restaurant and no Room Service. This needs to be updated on the website and the Hilton Honors App. After a long day of driving, having an on-site restaurant and/or room service as an option is definitely a plus. So that was a bummer. The evening reception was okay. A few days they had good looking spreads with fresh fruit, cheese & crackers, deli meats, and pretzels as well as brie, strawberries, a nut mixture, and more fruit. One night it was just two kinds of granola bars and individual bags of chips. But the best part is the two free drinks. Yes, it's somewhat of a limited selection, but they had the wine my Mom and I like, so we were happy. My husband enjoyed the amaretto sours and my dad liked the margaritas. The atrium area is very pretty and we didn't notice any noise in our room from the atrium.
Breakfast was very good! The made to order omelets were fantastic, and the rest of the hot food options were great! There was a waffle maker, several bread options, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and more.
The only real "issues" we had was some confusion with housekeeping. No one speaks any English. I relied on Google Translate to communicate with them and that only sometimes worked-a lot is lost in the translation. It was easier to just go down to the front desk and ask for what we needed (towels, kleenex, toilet paper). However, the entire housekeeping staff was very polite and tried hard to communicate as best they could. The $7/night for self serve parking is absolutely ridiculous. There is no reason to charge hotel guests for an unsupervised, ungated parking lot.
Chris at the front desk and Louis the premium amenities refiller were super friendly and helpful! Louis made sure we got all the snacks we requested and was so easy to talk to. Chris helped me out with my parents reservation which was a mess and made it all work out in the end! Again, overall a really wonderful stay. We will be back for sure!

I booked our trip through Priceline which apparently means you get treated in a slightly lower level of care in most hotels and Embassy Suites was no different. I was hesitant to book this hotel because there were a lot of negative comments on Priceline but the deal was too good to pass up. $69 for a standard room (there was no explanation of what a standard room was)but I like the happy hour and free breakfast. When we got there they upgraded us to a king suite because the hotel was being renovated (i.e. expect noise and dust). The hotel happy hour and breakfast were excellent. A suggestion...don’t eat out in the open while renovating or your food will get dust settling down on it from the upper floor work being done. Our second night’s sleep was interrupted by an alarm going off that was coming through the vent in our bathroom. I called the desk and my complaint was addressed by the night clerk. Unfortunately 30 minutes later the alarm was still going off. I called again but no answer even after letting it ring forever. I assumed she might still be trying to stop the alarm but after 30 minutes it was still going off. I called the front desk again, but like the second call she did not answer again . I got up, dressed and went downstairs. The clerk was there, she was just ignoring my calls. THAT IS NOT OK! She said the alarm was on the floor above us (not the floor under construction) and she had called engineering about it. This was now around 2am and had been going on for at least an hour. The alarm was not shut off until at least 8 or 9 in the morning. We finally turned on the TV for the rest of the night to drown out the incessant beeping. The next morning when I tried to talk to the day clerk he refused to talk to me because we booked through Priceline! If hotels don’t want people to use services like Priceline why do they list on these websites? He gave me someone’s business card and told me I would have to call them to let them know about my concerns. This is not the quality of service I am used to at Embassy Suites. I like the renovations, we were the first ones to stay in our room. However Embassy Suites needs to work on their customer service.

We were in town for a bridal shower and the location was perfect for many of us from out-of-town to gather. The suites are roomy and comfortable. Knowing this location is going thru remodelling (**and it was noted on their website as well as the 1-800# guest rep advising) , I could easily look past a worn out lamp (it still worked!), carpeting wasn't bad, bedding (including sofabed bedding) was clean, linens were clean/plentiful! It was fun to be with Chief's fans/guests when the SuperBowl was won :) !!

This Embassy Suites location is a very good hotel and location if you are visiting the Kansas City/Overland Park area solo or with a family. The amenities are very clean and spacious, and the complimentary breakfast has a huge selection that can definitely satisfy the needs of a large family. The only improvement I would suggest is the house keepers knocking on the door before check-out. The hotel also has a very good gym. Overall, it was an outstanding stay and the staff are helpful and friendly.

First of all I have very high expectations especially during covid. We travelled as a family with very young children. I was able to book the presidential suite for an extremely reasonable cost and check in online and go directly to the room. It had obviously been updated since any recent photos that were available online. The furniture was all updated and fine. All of the green vines shown on the main hotel photos has been removed and it looked much cleaner and refreshed. Our room was spotless, other than a stain or two on the carpet, which is to be expected. The Air conditioner and water temp and pressure were excellent. The shower door could use a little maintenance as it didn’t want to stay shut, and the tv in the bedroom only connected to one Channel, but neither of those were an issue for us. The bed was very comfortable and the room
Was clean and smelled clean. The breakfast was excellent. The woman working there served us everything in to go containers, she wore a mask and gloves. There were very few people eating breakfast and we were able to sit probably 50 feet away from the closest person. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Maybe it was because this was the end of a 7 day, 18 state long-ass road trip, but I was disappointed in this stay, which was surprising because of all the hotels we stayed at this was the only one to offer a manager's reception and a made to order breakfast instead of a doggie bag.

The staff, like the staff in every other place we stayed, was very nice and friendly, the water pressure was ok, and the bed was comfortable. The first impression of the room was that it smelled just like tequila, so they must have been using a sanitizer made by a distiller. The furniture was ok except for the couch which was actually missing the cushions that go on the back of it.

The room was not what I'd reserved: I requested and was confirmed a premium King suite and we were put in a normal king suite. No, I did not go to the management to get the correct room. Why, you ask? Because by the time I'd figured out we didn't get what we'd reserved it was at the end of a 10 hour drive and we'd already unpacked a bit of our stuff, and we were too tired to care enough to repack everything, go to the front desk and move to a new room. In addition, for whatever reason the premium suite was listed as the same price as the room we were given (which was why I chose it in the first place, because, hello - snacks!), so it wasn't like we'd paid extra. I hesitated to bring it up in this review but it seemed important to do so, but let me emphasize that I didn't offer them the chance to make it right. We were just too tired.

Maybe because of all the Covid stuff going on, but all the beautiful plants that normally populate their planters in the reception area were either dying or completely missing so you were left to look at dirt. We didn't go to the manager's reception because there was a large number of people there and it was too many people in the area to maintain social distancing.

I do wish that we could have taken part in their made to order breakfast because it looked promising - instead of being served buffet style they came to take your order and brought it to your table. We were pushing to get on the road by 6:00 am, get out of Kansas City and beat the work traffic though, and didn't have the time to wait for it to be cooked. It's a shame because this was the best option we'd seen at any of the hotels during the entire trip.

We chose this hotel for what it used to be....amazing. That is no longer the case. The facility is dire need of repair and upgrades. There were water leaks throughout the building (they had buckets to catch the water).
The wall paper in the Atrium/ breakfast area is peeling and falling down.
Outside our room (509) there is chewed gum on the carpet...where it remained throughout our whole weekend.it is still there as I type.
The room (509) itself was dirty, the air conditioner was so loud it made hearing the tv impossible. The TV is located to the far right of the bed, so if you hope to relax in bed and watch TV, make sure you dont get this room as watching tv from your bed is impossible.
During Covid, they obviously had to make breakfast changes, but when they offered oatmeal on their menu, i expected more than an instant packet and COLD milk..most people eat their oatmeal hot. The waitress said is the only all way they could serve it.
This hotel is definitel NOT WORTH THE MONEY.
What once was great is now nothing more than a low budget place at high budget price.
So disappointed. As a Hilton Honors customer, I expected more. Hampton Inn will get my business next time.

I have been staying in this location for years and have never had a bad experience. They are currently renovating rooms to update the design. Even with the construction, everyone was helpful and friendly. The cook-to-order breakfast is great and the staff is always willing to help.

During one stay I needed get something from my room while my family was at the pool. When I returned, housekeeping was cleaning the room. When I asked to enter, she asked for my key and used it on the door to ensure I was the occupant of the room. While others might be irritated, I thought it was great that she was so concerned with the safety and security of my room.

This location is also very well located to I-435, shopping, restaurants, and other activities.

One would think that during COVID a hotel would do its best to encourage guest stay by making sure everything was right. We asked to be away from busy roads in order to sleep. Didn’t happen. The desk clerk was nice, but who knows the last time the lobby floor was cleaned. We were three, the hotel knew that and the sleeper sofa was not made up. After three hours, still no sight of sheets or pillows. Had to ask for towels as well. Outside our door the carpet was littered with plastic drink covers and goldfish crackers - the photo shows a couple, but they were everywhere up and down the hallway. When did they last vacuum? The bartender wore his mask below his nose. The hotel did not enforce the guest use of masks or social distancing. This is a large hotel and only one elevator worked and the rules included only two in the elevator and masks required — no enforcement. Plus, the elevator was extremely slow. We finally just used the stairs. Over all an unfortunate experience. It was a shame because the hotel has potential.
