My fiancé and I stayed at the Elgin to celebrate our original wedding date that we had to postpone due to COVID-19. This place did not disappoint. We stayed in the Amelia Earheart suite and loved the gigantic tub. Everyone at this hotel was so sweet and accommodating. The food at the restaurant was very good quality and the chef definitely knew what he was doing. Sunday breakfast was so sweet and intimate. My fiancé and I didn’t want to leave. Our room was clean, the sheets felt like butter, and they even include a super loud fan in the room for those that need white noise to sleep. Great touch! We will be buying one of those. I can’t wait to come back.

This is a beautiful gem that has not only been painstakingly restored, but filled with a mix of antiques and comfortable furniture that fits the period. Lots of interesting stained glass windows and chandeliers. Plenty of shared spaces indoors and on the verandas for gathering with friends to watch a game or socialize. Guest kitchens have dishes, stove, oven, refrigerator for our use. The 1886 Restaurant served a great breakfast, dinners were delicious, and we enjoyed our time at the bar for a nightcap later in the evening
Despite its age, the hotel has good streaming televisions with cable, wifi, and comfortable bathrooms in each room.

f you combined a "historic" hotel with all the modern creature comforts of home....you would be staying at the Historic Elgin Hotel in Marion, KS! My extended family booked four suites in May, and we were AMAZED at what a fantastic property this is!

We stayed during the week so the front desk wasn't manned, but we were given a code for the door and when we let ourselves in, the keys were all laid out for us on the front desk. We were surprised to see that there was an elevator, since the hotel building was built in the 1880s, but it has gone extensive renovations.

In the front lobby, adjacent to the beautiful stairwell, is a gorgeous large crystal chandelier. (The hotel has a large room for private functions with several additional large chandeliers.)

Everything about this hotel shows the owners' attention to detail, and Marion County is lucky to have such lovely accommodations.

All parties in my group were very happy with their rooms! Ours, the Amelia Earheart Suite, was so spacious with a gigantic jacuzzi spa tub and shower stall! There was a fireplace in the bathroom which worked as an electric feature. It was a great touch to the room! We enjoyed our beautiful, fluffy robes. They were from Peacock Alley, as were the sheets, a fabulously expensive linen company!

Our beds were oh so comfortable with the wonderful, upscale linens!

There is a full kitchen on both the second and third floor which we were allowed to use. The kitchens have refrigerators where you can store your own food, and there are Keurig coffeemakers for your use as well. This was so fortunate, because there aren't many restaurants in the Marion and Hillsboro area! We did know ahead of time that their restaurant would not be open (open only on the weekend), but many restaurants are not open on Monday and Tuesdays! So we drove up from the Dallas, Texas area fully prepared with a big cooler of appetizers and wine/beer! We were able to sit around the tables and enjoy our own food, supplemented with a run to Pizza Hut (Hillsboro!) for the kids!

There is a wonderful bakery, CB bakery, right around the corner on Main street. We would make a run there each morning for Bierocks and fantastic cinnamon rolls! For many, this was their first experience with Bierocks and we all agreed that you could not beat the original, although the breakfast Bierock came in a close second!

One other thing I want to mention, is that there are many "public" rooms on the property that you are allowed to use. Because this was a family gathering, we played games in the library one night, and there were others such rooms for reading, etc. One had the feeling of having the run of a three-story house!

Honestly, we will be looking for a chance to travel to Marion again in the future! We hope that this property will continue to thrive and succeed!

This property continues to step up their game. The new restaurant area is awesome. We will return for a meal. I suggest weekend rates should equal weekend amenites (gourmet breakfast included). Although breakfast at Dorothy's across the street was very good. New Year's Eve event was well-executed. Our second visit in 2019.

The Elgin was the perfect place to stay while we explored the Flint Hills. On the second floor there is a kitchen for guest use. Breakfast is served every morning upstairs on the third floor. Breakfast was of excellent quality, and the owners were accommodating for a vegetarian diet. The rooms were very clean! There were shared spaces on each floor, with comfortable chairs to sit in, fireplaces, and relaxing ambience. There's a large porch that you can access on the second floor. Check-in was easy, as was check-out, and parking was not a problem. Highly recommended!

I'm not a Five Star reviewer. An experience has to be pretty special to get all five votes. Well I gave the Elgin Five Stars. What a jewel! The Elgin Hotel has quite a history beginning with its inception. It’s really surprising (and amazing) that a small town like Marion can produce a hotel like the Elgin. And they’ve done a masterful job on renovating the Hotel and furnishing it. A great find.

On entering we were in a delightful lobby with a comfortable sitting area. We snooped around and peeked into other rooms (the doors were open) and other floors. There are great common areas, a nice curved staircase to the second and third floors.

So, the room. We were in the Fred Harvey Room (to support the name, there were a number of books on Fred Harvey and the Fred Harvey Hotels and Fred Harvey Girls. Our room was quite nice with period furniture. The bed, a big King bed with a canopy covering it. And LOTS of pillows (was my mom here to help decorate; she loved having lots of pillows on the beds). There were bed tables/lamps, a dresser, a side chair with table/lamp. The bathroom was renovated in period white tile with a pedestal sink (they have redone the plumbing in the recent past as there was PEX piping to the toilet).

A really nice addition to the Hotel were the proprietors, particularly Tammy. She was so pleasant and really seemed interested in our having a nice stay at the Hotel. I texted her a number of questions. To each she had a prompt and pleasant reply. On leaving, we had a delightful chat with her about the Hotel and the area.

Would absolutely love to stay here again!

The Elgin exceeded all of my expectations. We discovered the Parlour 1886 restaurant by chance and were invited to view any of the open rooms while we were there. That initial welcoming experience is what brought us back to stay for a night in the Amelia Earhart room. All the rooms are lavishly appointed and super clean, with all traveler needs anticipated. This historic gem offered a fabulous and unique getaway that I highly recommend to anyone.

After a hectic holiday with both sides of the family, we needed a mini escape before heading home to reality. The Elgin offered a variety of rooms, from charming to extravagant, and we chose the middle of the road. It was a dreary December day, and we had been driving through the rain for about five hours.

We walked into our room and forgot our worries. The electric fireplace set the room aglow, the bed practically begged us to rest, and the two-person Jacuzzi tub helped me to remember that I'm not actually related to the most annoying people in my family.

We ate dinner (not included but delicious) and breakfast (included and amazing) in Parlour 1886, and we were not disappointed.

By the following morning, we were refreshed and ready to take on the new year. I also anticipate many more one-night escapes for us over the coming years.

A real treat is the Elgin Hotel in Marion, Kansas. Have stayed there many times and from the reservations to the billing, it is flawless. The place is beautiful, so historic. Tammy is the owner and always so helpful. The restaurant is open from Thursday through Sunday usually. Although did not try their breakfast this time, there are a couple choices on main within walking distance. The TVs in room hook to streaming, but you can go to several locations to get live TV. Mainly couples, but have seen a few families and business people.

The Elgin Hotel delivered beauty and elegance beyond my expectations. The hotel is beautifully restored and immerses you in elegance, charm and history. Pictures just do not do it justice. Even though we had a short overnight stay, I was truly amazed with the property. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the attention to detail is outstanding. The chef happened to be ill on the evening/morning we were there, but we were given a credit for breakfast across the street to Dorothy's Coffee House which was very charming on its' own. I would highly recommend staying here for an experience you will not soon forget. The only drawback may be the lack of other dining alternatives in town.
