Detailed Reviews
I had the pleasure of staying at the Heavenly Habitat this week for an overnight trip to see the Covered Bridges of Madison County. The Heavenly Habitat was easy to book over the phone, and Steve and Nancy were friendly and professional.
It is the true bed and breakfast experience, with lots of information available about local attractions and eateries. I enjoyed a hearty breakfast of blueberry crepes, baked eggs & ham, sausage patties, juice and coffee. I even got to choose my breakfast time.
The bed was comfortable, the towel was fluffy, and everything was clean. I had access to a bedroom with a private bath, a living room and dining room area, and a kitchen where I could make my own coffee. I stayed in the room that actress Maureen O'Hara stayed in when she visited Winterset for the opening of the John Wayne Birthplace Museum.
Nancy and Steve have really thought of everything to make your stay pleasant. I highly recommend the Heavenly Habitat!

This was the best B&B we have stayed in so far and we have stayed at quite a few. We had the downstairs all to ourselves, which was a bedroom, a kitchen with large fridge/freezer and microwave, a living room and a bathroom with clawfoot tub and a separate area with a walk in shower. The decor was so carefully and lovingly done and the food was delicious! We loved meeting some new people at breakfast. The price was very reasonable.

If you plan on visiting Winterset, IA, stay at the Heavenly Habitat B&B if it is available. A charming converted church is the perfect get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Steve and Nancy are excellent hosts and offer a fabulous breakfast to start your day. We met family there and enjoyed the common living area that offers a full kitchen, living room and dining room, with a nice deck for enjoying a glass of wine in the evening or a cup of coffee in the morning. We felt right at home. The location is great .. near downtown, with restaurants and shopping nearby. Can't say enough nice things about this B&B! It was the perfect get away for us!

We had an amazing stay with Nancy and Steve! The breakfast was wonderful, and I love that they thought of our young kids when crafting the menu. We all felt very pampered and spoiled with a beautiful table setting, and a delicious meal. The B&B is just perfect, with every little detail thought of, and wonderful decor throughout that makes you feel both at home, and like you are in a very cozy and special place. Definitely recommend!

We had a lovely stay at Heavenly Habitat B&B this past weekend. Our room and the common area were spotlessly clean and well appointed. Our hosts, Steve and Nancy, were so welcoming and friendly. A home cooked, absolutely delicious breakfast was enjoyed both days. I would definitely recommend staying at Heavenly Habitat when visiting Winterset. Steve and Nancy will make your stay a pleasurable experience.

What a great find this was! Communication was excellent prior to our stay. There were two of us couples, each with our own bedroom and adjoining bathrooms. We had shared living quarters which was great for playing cards, making plans for the day, etc. We spent some time out on the patio which was very pleasant. Breakfast was a pure treat!! Absolutely delicious! Steve and Nancy were fantastic hosts! We would highly recommend a stay at Heavenly Habitat!!

This is a wonder B&B run by a retired couple, Steve & Nancy. It is 2 blocks away from the John Wayne Birthplace & Museum. Each May the museum hosts a John Wayne celebration to celebrate his birthday on May 26. It is usually a 2 to 3 day event.
We have stayed at the Habitat twice now. It is in a renovated church and very close to the downtown area of Winterset. The county seat of Madison County and the home of 6 covered bridges. It is a delightful place to stay. It is quiet, clean, & serves the best breakfast in Town! We highly recommend it.

Thanks for your kind words. The opportunity to meet with such nice guests as our Jersey friends during the annual John Wayne festival ranks right up there with the time that we had the Legendary actress Ms. Maureen O'hara!
