I was supposed to Originally take this trip for September 2020 and it was rebooked due to Covid, but the people at this resort avoided all our calls and kept ignoring my emails. BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Visiting Yok Ha was a short boat ride away, but upon arrival you realize you are worlds apart from stress. Very relaxing atmosphere, rocking in your hammock to the gentle breeze of the Caribbean sea. The food was always great as well as the personalized service. The creamy soup was an experience on its own. There are options for tours, but we were really there to do nothing and we enjoyed being disconnected from the world for a couple days. There is WiFi in case you need it, but we did not miss it at all.
Been to Belize before and this accommodation was simply the worst. Pro: I would not have paid full price.. Bought 2 groupons for my husband and me and another for our adult daughter so we had 2 bungalows. Booking was seamless and Stefan was very accommodating. Most of the staff was very helpful, loved the cooking lady. Overall, the staff was friendly. Loved the veranda with the hammock. Good a lot of reading done. Loved the paddle board around the island. Cons: Lots of broken things. One boat had an engine broke and disappeared in the shop for the reminder of our stay. The second boat had only one engine which also had some issues. I did worry about our way back to the mainland for departure. The ride is about 8 mls and it can be rough. Power was out once in a while, ok we are on an island. But water was out as well sometimes for several hours which made the bathroom issues challenging so we got a bucket to flush the toilet. Initially we had asked for warm water but then realized that is never going to be fixed and we should be happy to have water at all. The blue bungalow was somewhat tired. No chair to sit. The bathroom very basic. No shower head and the way it was set up often flooded the bathroom and the bedroom. AC smelled very moldy so we did not use it. Rooms very clean when we arrived but then is was less taken care of. Basically the girl made the bed and took the trash which was appreciated as the toilet paper needed to go into a trash can. I don't think the sheets were changed once in those 8 nights. The choice of food was to eat or not. It was Belizian style and somewhat greasy. The fish and lobster were always delicious. Tours were completely overpriced. We did a tour to the Mayan ruins and the van was dirty and with many cracks in the windshields making me question its safety. We did 2 snorkel tours but basically just needed the boat ride as we had all our equipment. The most regrettable thing was that we did not go diving. We are certified and came for the diving. The dive shop was a shock, the equipment was not well taken care of and looked very old and used. Never seen them rinse it. We talked to another couple who went diving and used their equipment and they said the regulators were not working properly and the gauge did not work at all. Only the dive master had a working gauge. That is a huge safety concern for me. The manager often watched TV very loud even if someone was in the restaurant. We sometimes just turned it off. The last evening several heavy armed men appeared and stayed for hours which made us feel very uncomfortable. Were later told it was coast guard but the boat had no official signs which made us wonder. Overall, a remote simple place which could be a treasure. If this would have been our first trip to Belize we might have thought differently but compared to other places we have visited this did not make the list for a potential return.…
We had an outstanding, relaxing and fun time at Yok Ha! I would highly recommend coming to visit. The staff is super friendly and hard working. The accommodations were great and the island is quiet. The excursions were awesome as well! I recommend going island hopping!!
It’s a beautiful place and very remote. Staff is wonderful food is great. Cabanas need some more attention. We never had air conditioning and the hot water was spotty. We had to open windows at night and where eaten by mosquitoes. We loved the area so truly over looked all the bad. We were going to give a lot more money at end of stay for tip to staff until we had trouble checking out. We tried to explain to the girl at checkout that she didn’t apply the first $250 deposit to our paid bill. She just acted like she didn’t understand. This was the worst part of the trip. I wish they would correct that. If you go take cash for everything it will save you money. The staff on island were wonderful.
My bestie and I went I Yok Ha as a girls vacation. It was absolutely beautiful and incredibly fun! It was just the two of us on the island the whole week! The island and our cabana were well manicured, and the excursions were spot on. The staff was amazing, fun to chat with, and extremely accommodating. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants time away from the world with the option of adventure!
I stayed a few years back and loved every moment of this trip! The place, the people, the diving, and the food... oh the foooood! I definitely plan on going back again someday. I would take a fishing trip and spend more time on the kayaks!
Everything was perfect.. food, service, location. Its very relaxed and casual which we really enjoyed. The staff and owner treated us like family. Meals were awesome.. lobster, pasta with shrimp, breakfast burritos, fresh fish etc. We cant wait to return!
Yok ha creates an amazing experience from the time you book your room. The pictures cannot do the property justice and a review can’t truly convey the excellence of the staff that are there to make your experience exactly what you want it to be. My friend and I were beyond impressed at every turn. The snorkeling trip is a must, I would highly recommend xunantunich and getting a different view of such a beautiful country, and kayaking around the island is peaceful and serene. I can’t wait to plan my next trip!
You Ha was filled with amazing views wherever you looked. The accommodations were beautiful and the property was well taken care of. The food was excellent. We had something different at every meal. The staff were both friendly and professional. We kayaked, snorkeled and scuba dove while we were there. We are counting the days until we can return.
