The McNeill Stone Mansion is terrific! Gorgeous private rooms and public rooms as well. Virginia has provided lots of snacks and beverages and areas to hang out whenever you want. The bed in the Royal Red Room was very comfortable, multiple types of pillows are provided so you can pick the one that best suits your needs, and the bathroom is very well appointed. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Virginia is a lovely host - present if you want her to be, and absent if you don't, which is something some other B&B's haven't figured out. :)

The Stone Mansion is in a convenient location and much more comfortable than the hotels in the area. We can't wait to have a reason to stay there again!

I booked a stay at the McNeill Stone Mansion in Oskaloosa, Iowa for my company's attorney from Memphis. As he is more acquainted with the finer things, I figured the Comfort Inn would not do as it does for most guests to Oskaloosa, particularly during the Knoxville race season and the fair season.

The McNeill Stone Mansion is situated ideally in the middle of Oskaloosa near other homes of an upscale design. This B&B is perfectly maintained and very New England'ish in its design throughout. By this I mean the linens, bathrooms, sitting areas, library, dining area and sunporch are of the type you would see in small town New England. Very, very quaint. All rooms have their own private baths, and the upstairs has been converted into a suite of rooms for a larger group (like a family of 5.) The stained glass is exquisite, as are all the details of this Italianate/Greco period house.

The hosts/owners of the B&B are very accomodating and serve up a delicious breakfast. Our genteel attorney was more than pleased with his stay. So much so he sent the owners a jar of his homemade blackberry jam, and getting that is like prying a horse from her newborn colt.

At any rate, the McNeill Mansion has a marvelous history about it, which the owners know quite well, and have kept the mansion in excellent condition using the sweat of their brow and, no doubt, a lot of time. Weddings and the like are frequently held here.

I would very highly recommend a stay at the McNeill Stone mansion.

This was our third visit, and each time we are blown away by the exquisite décor, the perfect restoration, and the comfortable warm feeling of being here.
Gary and Virginia are the perfect hosts, genuinely welcoming without being cloyingly intrusive.
The food is delicious, and the service makes you feel like a visiting Royal.
Don't pass the opportunity of staying here if you travel anywhere near this beautiful B&B!

Very comfortable king bed in the 1908 McNeil Stone Mansion. Gary & Virginia did a wonderful "labor of love" to restore this mansion to it's original design including flooring and furniture (with all of the luxuries of modern plumbing and heating). Virginia set a lovely buffet with snacks throughout the day, beverages and fresh cookies and - get this - a real breakfast with quiche, bacon, juices, coffee and fresh fruit. A bed and breakfast doesn't get any better than this.

You could not go wrong with this place. It has an intriguing history and unusual concrete and wood construction that the hostess Virginia explains with detail and enthusiasm. The grounds are beautiful, just like a park. We stayed in the room with the four-poster bed and really enjoyed it -- very luxurious (McNeill Suite). Two days flew by too quickly - could have stayed a week and still be in heaven.

Gary and Virginia are wonderful hosts. They made us feel welcome and the room and food were wonderful. We enjoyed talking with them about the 7 year renovation project of the mansion. Must see to appreciate all of their hard work.

We live in the same town this fine establishment is in. We feel like we know the host and hostess personally. When we stay there we feel as though we are out of town and there is no need to leave town! You would not believe how nice this place is....the rooms are nice and clean and authentic. They have done a fine job with this Bed and Breakfast. And the breakfasts are great! Check it out and I don't normally don't leave a review that's how impressed we are. We will definitely be going back annually if not every 6 months. All by the way if you're into romance it's the perfect place to go.

The architecture is stunning, the atmosphere is very laid back. Gary is great to converse with! The breakfasts are always over the top! I suggest the penthouse suite you'll never want to leave! The neighborhood its located in is very quiet and good for taking a walk to go to lunch or just see the sights.

If you happen to be traveling anywhere in Iowa or Illinois, it would be worth your while to make a detour through Oskaloosa, Iowa for a stay at the Stone Mansion Bed and Breakfast. We have traveled through out the United States and to numerous locations outside the country, but this is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Absolutely beautiful accommodations, homemade ice cream and brownies before bed, and an amazing breakfast! The host and hostess are delightful and are very well informed about the history of this amazing building. We will be visiting there again.

"The McNeill Suite was our favorite. Gary and Virginia graciously showed us around the entire house, and we think we had the most beautiful and comfortable suite of them all. Besides the luxurious double Jacuzzi, it also had a separate area with a walk-in shower. The electric fireplace added a lot of charm to the room. Everything in the house was spotlessly clean and we felt right at home."
