This place was wonderfully located near the Mississippi River and you had a good view of the large bridge, spanning the west channel, and a barge may go by from time to time! We had a good sleep in a comfortable four poster bed in the Sarah Room. It is in walking distance from Marquette Cafe & Bar and a Casey's (for gas and hot food). It is a short drive from Pikes Peak State Park (for a grand view of the river hundreds of feet high on the river bluffs) and Effigy Mounds National Monument. It is also located in the area of the "Great River Road", "River Bluffs", and "Driftless Area" Scenic Byways, in Iowa, that my wife and I drove on on our vacation. It was a cozy and warm atmosphere with a large and sumptuous breakfast, fixed by Connie, to get us started in the morning.

Marquette is a quaint little town nestled between the bluffs and the Mississippi River. We went to the Eagle's Landing Winery and stayed here at the B & B. The room was wonderful with a balcony overlooking the river. The breakfast was amazing. The only thing that was a huge disappointment was the train track that was 15' from the house. All night long they were hooking and unhooking cars, for that reason we will not be staying there again.

My husband and I have stayed here two times and each time brought another couple also. We had the two rooms on the main floor of the house. The hosts are just wonderful and the rooms are fine - beautiful view and very relaxing stay. If you are a person that does not like being in someone's home and seeing their belongings around you, it is not for you. For us, it is just like being home and we love watching the river. The train can be very annoying, that is a fact! And yes, there is clutter, but the rooms are great and that is the main point to us. They are clean and roomy with a great deck and lots of extras. And the breakfast is simply amazing! We will likely go back again:)

1st of all the owners are wonderful people and when we shared our discomfort with the following situation they were completely understanding. I reserved a room in advance and Connie provided excellent customer service. When we arrived for our room we were taken to the loft which was open to the living area below separated only by a railing. In other words no walls, no door to lock, and no sound insulation-not what we had in mind for our anniversary get away ;) We were completely uncomfortable sleeping in this open area let alone anything else! I spoke to Connie who was very sweet about it and explained that is normally their room but her husband needs to stay downstairs so she switched our room -perfectly understandable but it didn't work for our needs.

The other reviews about clutter and upkeep are spot on. The owners probably need to enlist some help with chores as it is a lot to maintain. I do have to say it was super cool watching a barge right outside their living room sliding glass doors and they seem to have one of the few locations right on the water.

A group of five girls stayed at the B & B for a ladies' weekend getaway and absolutely enjoyed our experience. We stayed in the two rooms on the ground floor of the main house. I appreciated Roger and Connie's hospitality and willingness to accommodate. Here is my list:

Compliments: Wonderful hosts - great location (near the Effigy Mounds, Prairie du Chien) - Free bottle of wine per room/per night - Reasonable price - Nice amenities - EXCELLENT homemade breakfast (the food kept coming!) - Comfortable rooms included a full (I think) size bed, large bathroom, view of the River and door to River

Complaints: Train tracks can "lock" you in or out of the B&B, plan accordingly - The warm water in the shower didn't last for more than 10 minutes. That made it difficult with 3 women in our room! The home itself was a little cluttered (no big deal). Our rooms, however, were nicely cleaned and spacious.

Bottom line: I would highly recommend this B&B! Also, the family owns a winery down the road - don't forget to sample some wine and buy a bottle or six!
