Ok, I honestly don't want to write this review, but only because I want to be able to book rooms when I need them haha! It's one of those places that you want to let the whole world know about but at the same time, you also want to keep all to yourself!

Honestly, I've stayed at this B&B 4 times now. Once by myself and the other three times with my partner. I have never been disappointed.

The rooms are country cute with old fashioned colony decor. They are kept very clean; with no stains on the tubs/showers/sinks and no weird odors. The beds are comfortable and the pillows are super fluffy. I love the pillows!

Unlike other B&Bs each room at Die Heimat has it's own individual bathroom. That means no sharing a toilet with anyone that you don't know! A definite plus for anyone that likes B&B stays.

I could rave all day about June's homemade breakfasts but I honestly think you should go out and try them for yourself. I wish I had taken a photo of the apple pie french toast I had during my last stay, but it was so good I ate it before I even thought of pictures. Every time I make a reservation here I start drooling over the thoughts of her homemade cinnamon rolls. I look forward to them each trip.

Homestead is only a short drive (maybe 5 minutes) from the main walk of Amana which has stores, restaurants and a cool speakeasy type bar.

The icing on the cake for this cute, quaint and quiet B&B are June and Marc themselves. The owners are amazing. So polite, attentive and willing to make sure you have the best stay possible. I can't speak highly enough when talking about these two.

While stationed in Europe in the early 1974 -1 983, we started staying in B&Bs if there were any in the area we were traveling. We enjoyed the stays and when we returned to the United States, we decided to try B&Bs here. Of all the B&Bs we have stayed in, we found the Die Heimat Country Inn was our most enjoyable stay. According to 1,000 Places to See Before You Die Published by Workman Publishing, New York, Die Heimat Country Inn is the biggest and oldest of all the B&Bs in the Amana Colonies.
I love history and I enjoy renovating old buildings. The seven villages of the Amana colonies are a National Historic Landmark and for history buffs, a must visit location. When you visit each village, it is almost like you have been transported back in time because most of the buildings have been preserved and look the same as when they were built. There is no better way to get the feel of the history of the area than stay in one of the buildings.
The Die Heimat Country Inn is the place to stay. It was a stagecoach stop when it was constructed and has the charm of an old stagecoach stop. All the rooms are decorated in the simple Amish style—walnut and cherry furniture, hand-sewn quilts and calming blue walls.
June and Marc Hersberger, owners and managers of the B&B have done a great job in renovating and maintaining the B&B. Our room was had all the comforts of home and we felt like we were home rather than in a motel. They are gracious hosts and make you feel welcome. The breakfast each morning was the best breakfasts we have had in place we have stayed. The food was delicious, and you can eat all you want. The other guests were very friendly, and it felt like a family gathering rather than having breakfast with strangers.
Great facility; friendly guests: and outstanding breakfasts—what more can you ask for. However, the best part of the stay was the way June and Marc treat their guest. They treat you more as a friend and make you feel welcome! Linda and I highly recommend a stay at the Dei Heimat Country Inn.

Our room was on the main floor and very large. Two queen beds, two recliners, a nice sized table for playing cards, fabulous sheets and very, very clean. The hosts wore Covid shields during our entire visit. There was hand sanitizer available, and the dining tables were spaced well apart from each other. The breakfast was delicious and we really enjoyed talking with June and Marc who are so very nice. I am a quilter and learned that they sometimes have quilt retreats in the building next door with lodging at the Inn. I highly recommend this marvelous place.

The rooms were so much larger then we expected and very clean, we also loved we were able to have connecting rooms so we could visit back and forth with all our group members. Great location to all the Amana villages, shops and places to eat. The Host and Hostess were so kind and helpful and omg the breakfast we had each morning were so delicious and filling. They do need to check on how many guest will be in the room so there were enough coffee cups and coffee but they were so great at making sure we got them when we asked. Already wanting to plan another trip to stay there!!!

Enjoyed our stay from the moment we arrived to departure. We were greeted by June, with a smile and pleasant congeniality to make a warm welcome delightful. Though we enjoyed our room with two windows, two chairs, king bed with uniquely designed bathroom, with a small frig, we appreciated the small gestures such as
cold purified water in mason jars to take from the frig anytime, plus soft drinks if interested, along with a cup of hot coffee in the morning. The highlight was their wonderful breakfast each morning. First morning was a vegetable (mushrooms, broccoli and spinach) quiche, with homemade cinnamon rolls and fruit with juice and coffee. Day 2 was a pineapple whip/pudding to start, caramelized French Toast with a pecan topping to die for, and bacon, again with juice and coffee. Since I'm a collector of cookbooks, I had to buy one she offered. Altogether lovely and would not hesitate to recommend and go back someday. Thank you!!

A few days earlier we stayed at a B&B in Mackinaw Island where a lovely lady took our picture. Imagine our shock and surprise when we checked in at Die Heimat Country Inn, one of the owners was the lady who took our picture in Mackinaw!? Thus started a lovely friendship. This B&B lives up to its history with lovingly restored rooms with its period, and very comfortable furniture. We stayed in room 16 and had an extremely comfortable and relaxing evening. Breakfast was a delight with fresh juice and fruits, bread and egg casseroles, old fashioned oatmeal and meats. June and Marc are delightful hosts, walking around the tables pouring coffee and generating lots of lively conversation. There is artwork for sale and Marc's pottery. This is a B&B that is worth driving out of your way to stay and the next time you go to the Amana Colonies, this is the B&B for you! We LOVED it!! Many thanks Marc and June!

My mom and I stayed here on our drive home from Chicago to Nebraska. So glad we did! The property is immaculate, the beds are very comfortable, and the owners are extremely accommodating, even going out of their way to provide a breakfast that met our respective dietary needs. We will definitely stay here during our next visit to the Amana Colonies.

We are on a road trip from Santa Fe, NM to Muskegon, MI, stopping at small towns and lots of art galleries along the way. The Die Heimat was an oasis I really enjoyed. The bed and pillows were very comfortable; the room well-decorated with interesting antiques; and the breakfast was delicious. I told the host that the coffee alone made the stay worthwhile, and he told me where we could buy it down the road!

I really appreciated the professionalism of the hosts: they engage in talk if the guest wants; let the guest breathe and relax if the guest wants; that kind of thing. (This is not always the case at bed and breakfasts. The one in which I am currently staying has a hostess who loves to talk. She’s interesting and funny, but escape is almost impossible.) Also, I had a room on the second floor, with a fairly heavy suitcase due to being our trip taking almost a month. The hostess graciously carried it upstairs for me, which I thought was truly kind—I was going to unload some items I needed and leave the suitcase in the car, but a rainstorm blew up and made that difficult.

The inn was perfectly located for us, a little way away from the shops and bustle. If you like to take photos or sketch barns, there’s a white beauty nearby, so I was a happy camper in that department. We drove through all the Amana towns and stopped at a few of the shops. If you love art, Catiri’s Art Oasis is not to be missed. I bought two large prints for $24 each, which I thought was a steal—and a piece of original art for under $100. The Amana General Store was really fun, and it has bathrooms! We couldn’t stay for long because my travel companion has trouble with candle scents—and there were delicious scents throughout the store—but I stayed long enough to buy an earthenware pitcher and have an interesting conversation with a local woman.

Die Heimat Country Inn is a wonderful place to make memories. It starts with the personal e-mails you receive about the area after you book. The location is just a few minutes away from the Amana Colonies Nature Trail that leads to a bluff overlooking the Iowa River. Marc and June have thought of everything, glasses of cold, filtered water in a central refrigerator, ice machine, snacks including ice cream bars, an outside lift for easy accessibility, wonderful breakfasts, Oriole bird watching from the dining room windows. We happened to be there on Amana Colonies’ favorite pie plant day, and June provided fresh slices of rhubarb pie. We were there for a wedding and several places had been recommended to us. We are so pleased we chose Die Heimat Country Inn.
