My wife and I stayed at the Elkader Jailhouse Inn three times in the last year. Julie is the perfect host and adds so much to the experience. Breakfast is great and the rooms are awesome. We have already booked ourselves again for next year.

From the outside you would just expect a lovely b n b, as this limestone mansion sits hilltop. But your morning meal will be served in a large dining room that was once a jail as recently as 2006. Our room was an expansive spa bath, and the bedroom's modern and relaxed elegance. We'll be back.

I'm always pleasantly surprised to find places like this when I travel. Julie was amazing to work with from the beginning to the end! The bed was really comfortable & her husband got up early to shovel a path for me. I highly recommend this place to stay if you are visitor for any reason.

We had a wonderful and restful night in this historic jail house, now converted upstairs to a very nice B & B in beautiful Elkader, Iowa. Julie was just great -- friendly, helpful, and professional. The property is located on a hill on the outskirts of town, about a mile walk to the little downtown with its shops, restaurants, and...

Comfortable, friendly, and interesting. Julie is a wonderful host with knowledge of the entire area. The Inn overlooks the entire town. And, the breakfast in the jail was excellent. Elkader is a great place to use as a base to explore the entire NE Iowa.

My family had the luck of having this gem all to ourselves. We needed three rooms: my husband, son, and I shared the attic (my son slept on a mattress on the floor - plenty of room), my brother, sister-in-law and two children had a two bedroom suite, and my parents had a room of their own. We were served...

Excellent place to stay when visiting NE Iowa. Julie is a great hostess who cooks gourmet breakfasts. Definitely recommend this place. Not far from the Mississippi River. Scenic drives all around. Downtown Elkader is an interesting place to explore.

This was a working jail right up until 2006. Sitting in the old cellblock for breakfast definitely gave me the chills! Fascinating to see all the old metal rivets used to keep the prisoners under lock and key. The rooms are upstairs and each one beautifully decorated and comfortable! Innkeeper Julie has really put her heart and soul into this...

We attended a family reunion in Elkader, and the Jailhouse Inn exceeded our expectations. Great breakfasts, comfortable rooms, interesting & unique lounge, nice grounds, friendly host (Julie). The kids had a great time in the jailhouse proper - escorting each other into the cells. We had a great time! We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone - especially if...
