First visit here. Great pool, warm water and a great hot tub. Nice room. Rare to have a bar in it where if you eat or drink anything you are charged. Good firm beds and nice pillows. They even have white fuzzy robes to wear. They have a spa and nice restaurant and room service. Things you only see in high end hotels. We got a good deal so decided to go.

We stayed at the Hotel Julien for our anniversary and they didn't disappoint. Started with the quickest check-in ever. They have an excellent staff. We had a beautiful view and a suite with a hot tub. Definitely returning in the Spring.

I stay in hotels a lot for work, so I know hotels. This is my honest opinion. For the location, this hotel was great. Put this hotel in a bigger city, it’s just good. I say this because there weren’t many to choose from when looking to stay here for one night. Pros: nice staff, clean rooms, comfy beds & pillows. Cons: could hear everything from hallway, cold draft near window, no ice machine on our floor and the French style glassed doors to the bathroom ( those are the absolute WORST I have ever seen in a hotel!). I’ll post a pic so you can see what I’m talking about. There is literally no privacy for using the toilet, you hear it all. Now if you are by yourself, no worries. Not only the sound but the light coming from the bathroom is so bright into the hotel room. Huge negative for me. So once you get over the fact that you will be hearing your friend, family member, husband ...whomever...in the bathroom....the rest of your stay should be fine. Yes, you hear some outside noise traffic( but not much) and every now & then a train (didn’t bother me as much as the talking in the hallway did...you literally feel like they are talking to you). I wore earplugs so that helped a little. The hotel itself is nice, lots of history. Rooms have a small refrigerator and Keurig coffee machine with tea/ coffee K cups.

Loved almost everything about this Hotel except for the size of the room we were given (seemed to be smaller than others we viewed). The view from the 7th floor was beautiful overlooking the Bridge in which we could walk over to view the whole city. We enjoyed the Keurig coffee maker and Organic teas. Dimming lights were a plus to set any ambience you may be seeking. Enjoyed sampling the Aveda Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner. The room had nice cozy robes to enjoy. There is a nice pool and hot tub. Real nice workout room. We didn’t get the opportunity to use the spa for any of the wonderful massages or treatments but we will be back for sure. 😃

A trip to Dubuque, IA in early December isn't going to net you the height of the season, but my gf and I have our birthdays close together and take a trip to celebrate. The Hotel Julien looked upscale, wasn't too far away, and had all the amenities we were looking for in a weekend away. I'm happy to say, Hotel Julien did not disappoint. The room was ample size, the bed comfortable, plenty of pillows. My suspicion is that the hotel caters more towards people traveling on business than romantic weekends away. One aspect of this is, there is a good sized desk in the room, but no drawers other than bedside tables. It seemed to us that there was an expectation to use the drawers of the desk as a place to put clothing. Odd, but it worked. For the room, there was one drawback. The door to the bathroom is set at an angle, facing the bed. And it doesn't use standard door, it has French style doors that were quite loud when pushing them fully closed. Do that in the middle of the night and you'll wake up your partner. For the same reason, we were loathe to turn on the light because the French doors were just frosted glass. Again, for business travelers traveling alone, it would not be a big deal (but is why I gave it 4 stars). We enjoyed spending some part of most nights in the lounge and the location of the Hotel was great. I'd recommend.
