Family reunion in Dubuque with Richards House as gathering place. Wonderful breakfasts, able to add extra guests for breakfast easily. Accommodating hosts. Great afternoon coffee cakes. Played lots of board games between outings around the area. Looking forward to future visits.

The Richards House was definitely what we were looking for when we came to Dubuque. My breath was taken away at the jump back in time you seem to take as you walk through the front doors. Stunning lighting and woodwork are the grounds for the beauty and charm of this place. Each room is unique in it's own way.... More

We stayed at the Richard's House eight years ago on our first visit to Dubuque, IA. Our recent spontaneous road trip took us back to Dubuque. We stopped in at 8pm on a Saturday night and the owners graciously welcomed us in. We had the same room we had years before and could see that they had made some updates.... More

Do not let the outside sway you from staying here. The inside is indescribable. It is like you were taken back in time. Each room had their own fireplace with ornate tiles around them each one different. The wood in this home was unbelievable and all different types making it more unique. The breakfast was to die for. I would... More

Please don't let the outside renovations fool you. Richards House is amazing! The library room is beautiful. Breakfast was fantastic and there was so much wonderful food. The snacks out were also amazing, especially the apple muffins! Michelle is so nice and gives a nice tour of the home and offers great conversation over breakfast. The dvd collection was a... More

Although the outside of the Richards House is undergoing extensive restoration, the inside is a beautiful historic treasure that will make you feel like a 19th Century money mogul. All the authentic furnishings are true to the past with half-canopied beds, oak woodwork, stained glass, and small details of the true craftsmen. Inn keepers David and Michelle are very friendly,... I always stay here while I am on a business trip to Dubuque and always enjoy my visits! The rooms are scrupulously clean and fresh smelling. The décor is stunning and historically accurate while blended... More

We were in awe of the woodwork and decor of the house. We felt so comfortable and at home the whole time. Breakfast was amazing and we loved talking with Dave and Michelle. We will definitely be staying again. If anyone has an appreciation for historic houses and decor, this stay is a must. It was so easy to get... More

It is a Victorian old house, so if you prefer a modern motel you can be disapponited. If you want a comfortable place to rest AND something different respect a motel, this is the place. Additionally the breakfast is SUPER. Concerning smell, sure, they have many wonderful cats, but we did not notice any smell at all. Very large room,... More

The charming couple who own and host this grand 1888 mansion are dedicated to its continuing preservation. Scaffolding lines the outside of the building, while the inside is appointed in elegant furnishings of the period. As Michelle gave my wife and I a tour of the premises, we felt transported to the warm ambience of 19th century living. Our breakfast... More
