This hotel is located in the heart of downtown Decorah and it is beautiful comfortable and convenient to the wonderful shops and restaurants within walking distance. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Free parking is easy and convenient.
This was a really great hotel. I loved the beautiful design, how it is laid out. Just the way I remember hotels when I was little and would go somewhere with my family. Seeing the old pictures and watching the film about the hotel when it was first built was amazing.
Excellent location in an enjoyable small town with a charm and real hotel feeling, a great change from the institutional chain hotels during travel with a great coffee shop directly across the street with shops and real restaurants (no chain restaurants) that are not found in small towns. It is also a great outdoors town with parks, hiking trails, canoeing and more.
This hotel was perfect!(beautiful - historic- great location- low price- friendly staff) We obviously were pleasantly surprised and highly recommend. We needed a hotel room last minute and the staff, especially the bartender, was great!
We chose this hotel due it's proximity to the Chimney Rock region of the Upper Iowa River and the convenience of being near the city’s quaint shopping district. Our room with a king bed was small, but tidy, with a refrigerator, a large dresser, and table with two chairs. The vanity sink was located outside the bathroom, which was cramped, but convenient. The shower pressure was good, but the shower faucet was a bit of a challenge. Overall, the elegant atmosphere and location make this a great place to stay. The coffee carafes at the continental breakfast were empty before 9AM and we’re never refilled. Why not have coffee available in the lobby until 10AM, as this is a common perk at most hotels where I have stayed? We got carry-out pizza from Mabe’s and sat down at table in front of the hotel to have dinner, but we were quickly shooed away by a waitress. We were told that tables were for only bar patrons; however, they was no one else seated outside at that time? We explained we were hotel guests and just wanted to enjoy our meal outside, but the waitress insisted that we leave to make room for the non-existent bar patrons? This was not a good experience. Despite these minor frustrations, I would likely stay here again, as there are few better options in this area.…
except for street noise the room was fine. Window screens tattered and windows need washing. Overall the hotel gave a sense of needing better care. cleaning. breakfast sandwich very good. check in rule - 3pm- could not check in 2:30 and go on to activities. " we have a lot of people...." At 3:30 no one in lobby and quick check in possible. customer service lacking here but fine later.
very friendly place loved the tub the beds are very comfortable very nice restaurant and bar. All in all this is a great place to stay in Decorah. My room was nice and cozy except on Thursday night when I started hearing water dripping in my room 131
We have stayed at the Winneshiek many times since the $8 million restoration and reopening back in 2002. It is architecturally beautiful. No shortcuts were taken in the renovation. Located walking distance from several great restaurants and coffee shops.
Great place for a mini escape. Great shopping and scenery in Decorah and the hotel was charming, clean and quiet. Went shopping, kayaking, and hiking all in one weekend. We had appetizers at the cute hotel bar and they were great. We definitely will return.
This is a great hotel and there are some very nice golf courses in the area that often get overlooked. Silver Springs in Ossian (stop at Bambinos for lunch, amazing) and Tri-City Golf in Luana (stop at the Old Rossville Store for Dinner.). You will not be disappointed.
