Very disappointed. Our room was dirty and smelled terrible. The front desk assistant said we could cancel our reservation but we had to contact Expedia since we booked the room through them. Expedia cancelled our reservation and refunded us. Three months later, we received a charge on our credit card bill from Western Inn for the night's stay, even though they agreed we could cancel our room and Expedia refunded us. Paul, the manager, said there was no way we could confirm our "story" since it had been so long since we stayed there and that we would not be refunded the charge. He was difficult to understand and had very poor customer relations. He claimed something about Expedia charging them for the reservation since it was cancelled on a no-refund policy and we had to pay for that charge. I talked with Expedia on March 27, who said "We guarantee that we didn't charge the hotel for cancelling this booking." I am now spending hours trying to talk with a live representative at the credit card company to dispute this transaction. I have wasted money, time, and energy trying to rectify an unnecessary situation resulting from poor management. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.…
This older property was run down and poorly managed. When we arrived and asked for an "accessible" room, the girl did not know that word. She then gave us a room upstairs, and my husband who walks with great difficulty was starting up the stairs when she remembered that there was a room available on the ground floor. It had new carpet installed recently, and the strong odor of new carpet was mixed with the odor of mold and food in our room. I tried opening the window, but it operated very poorly and I was barely able to get it closed. The a/c ran all night but never really dried out the air in the room. The mattress was not new, crazy lumpy hard pillows, and blankets I did not trust had been washed. The bathroom had a brand new tub/shower enclosure which was nice, and the bathroom was very clean. However the towels were thin and worn. The carpet in the hallway was dirty, and the place had an air of not well cared for, despite the fact that someone had recently redecorated the rooms with a trendy wall paint. One of the lamps in our room did not work at all. We were in a room facing the interstate and cars and trucks zoomed by all night. I barely slept due to the odor, weird bed, and general not good feeling. The breakfast was no where what we hoped for, so we drove one block to the Village in. Trip Advisor had given this place a 4 star rating, but I strongly disagree. There is an indoor pool, but it had closed when we arrived.…
Google called it a 3 star hotel. Barely rates one. The front desk was friendly, but the owners clearly haven't put a dime into the place in years. Latex pillows, tiny, ancient soaps, horrible coffee (clean the coffeemaker folks!), no lids on the ice buckets, no ice scoop, AC units listing precariously out of the walls. The attention to negative detail was thorough, they had magazines for events that ended the previous month and the "what to do" magazine had all the the pages related to local sights torn out. Stay in Omaha.
The hotel is old, hasn't been remodeled in ages, if ever, is more than slighty run down. The parking lot is in bad shape, a broken Pepsi machine greeted me on the sidewalk by the entrance, my room faced the immediately adjacent freeway where truck noise serenaded me all night and occasionally the desk lamp would just come on, presumably because of a short, before I finally woke up enough to unplug it. It took about 30 minutes and a different remote control before getting the tv to work. The breakfast was minimal, but they do say it is a continental breakfast - muffins and toast and cereal, no sweet rolls, no eggs and no breakfast meats. Some yogurt though.
Took a chance with this little gem and very glad to have done so!! From the friendly welcome, to the non stop extras, the Western Inn is exactly how ALL Hotel/Motels should be! Warm " snack " at 530 (pulled pork on night 1, hot dogs on night 2. ) To the warm chocolate chip cookies at 6p. The cleanliness if the whole place is unreal!! My room is huge, my kids are comfy ( the pool is REDIC!! ) and the price (on Hotels.com ) was unbeatable!! I definitely recommend stopping in if your traveling through Council Bluffs Iowa!! Thank you everyone!!
