Arrived a little early and were told that our room would be ready in 30 minutes. So we waited in the lobby until it was done. The bad part, we watched the housekeeper go through the lobby and no one bothered to mention that our room was ready. When we got into the room, the air was off and the room was overly warm and stuffy. Clearly no one had mentioned we had been waiting! The bad part was that the Red Cross had also set up in the lobby instead of using the meeting room and couldn't care less about social distancing, masks, or unsafe food handling. They had no problem taking cookies off of the tray without proper precautions being used. It wouldn't have taken anything to post a sign directing the Red Cross had people to go to the meeting room to handle their business instead of doing so directly in the lobby.

Their help for people devastated by the derecho is so inspiring. Their staff is kind and caring. The beds are comfortable, the shower is perfect and they service an impressive breakfast. Dinner is OK.

Really makes it look suspect when the shuttle rear bumper is smashed considerably. It's the first thing you notice as you go to enter the hotel. Room was clean. The chicken Alfredo for supper was really bland. I couldn't taste any seasoning at all.

We were booked into the Heartland Inn by staff at UIHC. The location was perfect to get to UIHC, and the cleanliness was excellent. We needed to make this medical trip during COVID-19 concerns. The cleanliness was a great relief with COVID-19 in mind. Additionally, the staff was enormously helpful, and they served breakfast and supper. The meals were modest, but greatly appreciated in that there was no need to find a place to get food. The rate was quite modest. If we need to return to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, this is where we will go.

It is great to know that it is noticed and appreciated. Some folks, like yourselves, must be here for hospital stays, they don't have a choice. This would be a fine hotel if it could ever gets its act together. The last two times I've tried to book, the computer system was down. The topper, however, was last Saturday I was going to treat my wife to a late Valentine's Day present with an evening in the whirlpool/fireplace suite. At 3 a.m. the fire alarms start going on and off intermittently. There is a fire truck and police car outside the hotel, but lights are not on and nobody is showing any urgency. We called down to the front desk no answer. We try it from an outside line; again, no answer. We get dressed and go down to the lobby where the night clerk is telling jokes to the cop leaning on the desk. I ask if we were in any danger, he shrugged his shoulders. At that point my wife no longer feels comfortable; we pack up and check out at 3:30 a.m. so we can get some sleep. There is no apology from the clerk and his only comment was to ask if I wanted a receipt. I told him to email it. Today I called to register my disappointment. The manager, while apparently aware of what happened, took the day off. I was offered $30 off of a $127 bill, which didn't seem much. The desk clerk gave a "sort of" apology with "it has never happened before and we fixed it." That doesn't really covered our spoiled evening. The clerk couldn't hang up on fast enough, and I was not that combative. I also noted that contrary to code, there was no visual alarm light going off in our room with the alarm. That is required for people who have a hearing impairment so they don't die in a fire. I write this review with some sadness. We reserved a block of rooms at the Heartland for our wedding 10 years ago and from time to time, we liked to use for a weekend getaway, but the technology management is lacking. I have many fond memories of the place, but I doubt we will return after Saturday's debacle and lack of management response. There are newer and better places in Iowa City / Coralville.

Dear Go Places, Oddly, the reason that the fire alarm went off was because someone in a whirlpool fireplace room ran their hot tub over. I am assuming they fell asleep and it was accidental. Unbeknownst to staff, at 3:00 in the morning, the water ran down all three floors. Our alarm system is in place to notify staff if anything like this occurs. Unfortunately, the desk clerk did not answer due to several factors, one of which was mobilizing the fire department, the police, myself and maintenance. It took a minute or two to assess what was really happening. Once we knew the issue, we tried to work as quickly as possible to resolve the problem. None of this is your problem, obviously. I just wanted to let you know that it was not a planned event and we were all as unhappy about it as you were. Per code, we do have visual alarms in all handicapped and hearing impaired rooms. I am sad right along with you. I was here 10 years ago when you had your wedding block here, since I have been here 20 years. I do apologize for the interruption of your stay. I cannot apologize enough. However, our technology is designed to keep us absolutely safe at all times. If staff was a little tentative, I am sorry. As a general rule, we don't have these sorts of things happen. It was an isolated event, for sure. I will most certainly make this right with you as soon possible. Thank you for being a loyal guest. Congrats on 10 years of marriage as well!! Thank you for your input. I so appreciate it. Again, please accept my sincere apologies.
