The Blackhawk Hotel is just wonderful. On Main Street of my hometown, I stay there every year for the Sturgis Falls Celebration because of its convenient location for all of the activities. The hotel itself is like a step back in time, not only in its appearance but the excellent service provided by the staff. The housekeeping staff is very... More

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Blackhawk Hotel. It really is a charming hotel with comfortable accommodations. Every member of the staff that we encountered from front desk to housecleaning were extremely pleasant and helpful. The attached Soho restaurant and Martini bar were a lot of fun. Walk right out the front door of the hotel... More

We booked this historic hotel on a recommendation from our family while we were visiting Cedar Falls - and we weren't disappointed. We stayed in the main, historic building in a third floor room with two queen beds. The room was modern and the Internet worked fine. We'll stay here again our next trip to Cedar Falls.

Stayed one night coming through on a road trip. Room was advertised as contemporary but was really more retro. Like something out of the 60's, in not a good way. Very uncomfortable. Would not stay again. The only good thing was that it was right on main street so walking to dinner was a nice thing.

My family and I found the Black Hawk hotel incredibly comfortable. It is a historic hotel but is impeccably maintained and very clean with smart renovations to the rooms and bathrooms. I would have given it five stars but for the mediocre breakfast, which we supplemented at the Cup of Joe shop across the street. We had a big family... More

Hello: It was a pleasure to have you as a guest at hotel and thanks so much for the kind remarks about our property. We are continually working to maintain the integrity of our hotel since our major renovaton process several years ago so it always nice to have affirmation that we are doing a good job and our guests... The hotel has two parts; the main hotel and basically a garage turned into a motel. When I arrived I received keys to the "adjacent property located out back". I went back to the front desk and asked for a room in the actual hotel. Even though the hotel was 60% occupied, and I was only staying one night passing... More

Dear Mr. Peter: As a highly-rated lodging facility, we rarely get reviews such as yours so I wanted to follow-up with my staff to get the "full picture" which was very enlightening. In the first place, we do not, as you put it, do a "bait and switch" tactic and are offended that you would suggest such a thing. Our... More

It's important to realize that the Blackhawk is really two properties: The historic "old" hotel shown on all the websites, and a separate building immediately behind the main hotel housing a circa mid-60's two story motel. Just like all those you see on TV where someone has just discovered a body. When you book you have to absolutely identify which... More

Traveling with two kids after many hours on the road, we almost chose a reliable chain hotel. After all, they're reliably predictable. But we took a chance with the Blackhawk and were glad we did. It's the oldest, most venerable hotel in Cedar Falls, right in the middle of the historic, small downtown area. Since everything else is out by... More

I really wanted to like this place. It's a lovely old hotel, in a wonderful location in an absolutely adorable little downtown area. There's good dining within easy walking distance and nice little shops. Beds are comfortable, staff are friendly, and it is clean and well maintained. All that being said, it is noisy. I can hear the people upstairs,... More

Hello Kristin: I am sorry to hear that your experience at The Blackhawk Hotel was less than perfect and you were disturbed by the noise. During our renovation, we made every effort to sound proof but there is only so much we can do in a historic property such as ours. You are also in a vibrant downtown area where... More

This hotel is gorgeous. We love the old wood work and the lobby. The beautiful architecture and sitting area in the lobby. The floors are outstanding and retain the classic old elegance of the hotel. The rooms are really great. VERY comfortable bed. The hotel is old yet the way the rooms have been designed/renovated maximizes the space well. Our... More

Hi Bruce: I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel and appreciated the architecture and other characteristics of The Blackhawk. When renovating, we made every possible effort to provide better soundproofing, but in an existing old property, it is difficult to totally block out noise. We do provide earplugs in each guest suite and if... More
