Moon River Cabins

Moon River Cabins

Kitchen, these are the two filthy pans of this kind here. I was making Cinnamon Rolls for breakfast, when I heated the pan up, the whole cabin filled with smoke from the oven and dirty pan. And yes, I tried washing them, hadn’t been cleaned in years.

The cabins are cute, comfortable and clean. The location is ideal- they're on the hilltop right by the river near the outside of town, so it's quiet but also close to restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here three nights with our dog. We occupied one cabin and our family occupied another with their large dog. The cabin we had was a bit close to the road and if you are sensitive to that you may want to pick one closer to the water. The cabins were very clean. The décor was what you would expect for a cabin but the renovations were a bit eclectic. We enjoyed it we walked to the riverwalk many times, to a brewery, state park and restaurants. Very peaceful and serene location. Some of the cabins were occupied but overall it was pretty quiet.

Stayed 2 nights with large dog in stone mill cabin. Staff pleasant cabin was well supplied rand comfortable rght next to river with great views and access. There is a camper area behind cabins that is on a lower level and very small about 5 families there during our stay which was not problematic. Cabins are on a main road but not too noisy. Our cabin could have benefited from minor cosmetic repairs ,but was clean and had great bed linen .cabin decor was great and slept 6 very spacious for families and they are pet friendly. Bellevue is very pretty and has nice mom and pop stores eaters etc. We are already talking about going back. The owners also have a beautiful bed and breakfast called mont rest goole it you wont be disappointed.

We stayed at Blue Moon cabin rentals and the pictures on the website aren't anything like the actual cabins and property. We were wanting to view the Mississippi river and watch the barges from our cabin go by. They don't mention that the view is blocked by a building below and in front of the cabin, making it impossible to see the river or barges.Scrub trees and tall weeds blocked the view as well The grounds were filled with tall weeds and were not well kept. The gas fireplace was supposes to work but it didn't. The tv was on a wall where it could only be viewed by laying on the bed. The cabins are right across the street from a very busy highway. About zero privacy for any of the cabins because they are all so close to each other. In one of the cabins we had stayed at before you couldn't open the door to the patio since the bed blocked it. We won't go there again. As well, the prices were higher than they should have been due to the issues mentioned above

We drove 3 1/2 hours to spend 2 nights in the Mississippi. There was hair on the pillows and the bedding did not look clean. There is no management on site, so you have to call and wait for someone to help you. We told them the cabin was dirty and they sent someone to change the bedding but they did not clean. My husband killed 12 spiders and 2 earwigs inside the cabin and I could not sleep, thinking about all the spiders inside the cabin. We might as well have been sleeping outside. There were ants in the kitchen also. When we got there and saw how dirty the cabin was we asked for our money back and they refused. We spent one night and left forfeiting our second night payment because it just wasn't worth it.

We reserved cabin #3 because of the fact that it had a jacuzzi. However, the jacuzzi didn't work. There was someone else's rotten, stinky food in the fridge, and we didn't use the coffee maker as it had a rotten coffee filter and grounds in it. The cabin was decorated well, and if it had been clean and things worked it would have been OK. We did tell the staff at Mont Rest about the problems the next morning and they informed us they had already charged us for the stay in advance, but did offer us a box of chocolates for the trouble (which we declined - we were going to be driving all day in 90+ degree temps). Their response to the jacuzzi not working? The gal said we should have called (I reminded her it was 10:30 at night when we discovered the trouble). I did tell her we tried to find the fuse box, and she immediately said that was likely the problem (and the fuse box is hidden beneath a wall hanging in the kitchen area). I am concerned about a cabin that has appliances that trip fuses, and my husband noted that the cord beneath the air conditioning unit was melted from heat. On a positive note, the owners and staff were friendly. Overall, we were disappointed because our one-night stay wasn't what we expected.

Box elders all over the place. Killed two very large spiders. Cobwebs like crazy. The owners don't use a computer, just scribble your info...including your credit card...down on a piece of scratch paper. Cabins are really close together so you can hear absolutely everything next door. Windows have an ancient latch that a 5 year old could figure out how to break into. Really not secure at all, dark and right next to the highway. Owner extremely rude.

This is the 10th year we have stayed at the cabins for our anniversary. We have never been disappointed! The cabins are very clean and in a perfect location with enough privacy for couples. There isn't a more relaxing spot than on the back patio of the cabin watching the eagles soar and the barges and boats go by (especially in the moonlight). As long as the cabins are there, we will continue to come back every year.

We had a really terrible experience this past weekend with Moon River. For starters, the cabin was crawling with box elder bugs and giant spiders. There were not screens on any of our windows except one, so I'm not surprised the bug problem was so bad. It was unseasonably warm so the inability to open the windows and get a breeze going was disappointing. The water definitely had a sulfurous smell and my brother mentioned he killed a spider in the shower so big I probably didn't want to know the actual size.

The kitchen was relatively dirty, and though it boasts a coffee maker among other appliances, there wasn't any coffee to be found. The counters, stove and fridge had old food spots and spills all over them. The TV in the second bedroom was rough-looking and had an old VHS player and some tapes, which seemed quaint and cute. We didn't try it out, so I don't know if even still worked.

I did love the river access and spent some time with my feet dipped in, but unless you want to brave a steep incline down past rusty old boat parts and drunk fishermen, you're not going to enjoy it. I would say the view from the water's edge was beautiful, but from the cabin most of what you see looks like a nautical junkyard.

When we arrived the owner at the Mont Rest gave us our key and showed us around the b&b, which was decidedly gorgeous. We'd had about an hour of relaxation and settling in at the middle cabin when she came banging down our door with another couple in tow to tell us that our credit card had been declined so she had booked someone else. She claimed she had called and e-mailed before that day to let us know, but there was no phone or e-mail record to back her up. She had my mother's credit card info hand-written in pen on a piece of paper - not much security of our personal info there. She didn't bother to discuss quietly or rationally, but shouted at my mother outdoors in front of her children, other cabin renters, and the couple she had double-booked into the cabin. We were left with no option but to leave - and while we were packing up our bags, she stood and gossiped at the cabin next to ours with the renters, pointing in to our windows.

Not sure why she would have given us the key in the first place if we weren't reserved there. Or why there was mysteriously no record of her trying to get in touch with us before our check-in to let us know we no longer had a reservation.

All in all, here's my take: it was a really unprofessional and mortifying customer service experience for my family. I work as a travel agent and have run the gambit of crummy customer service experiences, and she was by far the most abrasive and improper. We love the outdoors and would honestly probably have put up with the lack of cleanliness and the bug problem because we were excited to find a pet friendly location, we wanted to check out the butterfly garden at the State Park, and we were happy to be together. But quite honestly, between the terrible service, the low quality of the facilities, and the price, I think you'd be better off taking a day trip to Bellevue and securing a room for yourself somewhere in Dubuque.

Stayed here when everything else was booked in the area. Won't be back. For the price I paid, the kitchen could have at least been spot cleaned. Don't drink the water! For whatever reason the water has an odd smell to it. I've been to the homes of family in other parts of town and the water is not like that at all. We didn't even brush our teeth with it.
