We rented two nights at Moon River Cabins in August. We stayed in The Paddlewheeler cabin. The pictures that are on the Moon River website must be quite a few years old. Yes the cabin is on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi, but they haven’t trimmed any trees, cut down volunteer trees, weeds, broken limbs, etc. The view now is very minimal. And you do wade through the yard of weeds and not mown grass. It is false advertising! The logs of the cabins are very deteriorated, lots of spiders and other insects. Piles of dead plants by cabin door. And also there are the two big motor home things below you and the RV PARK to the right. We also had problems with the kitchen, the pans were unusable and filthy. When you are inside it looks nice enough, but Not taken care of. We wanted to open the windows to the river and most of them did not have screens. Looking around, we just thought it was a shame that they hav left it to rot.…
The impression we had from the adverts was that it was a rustic and rural environment. Actually the cabins are wedged in very tightly between the main road and a large RV park. Sitting on the back porch of our cabin for example we could hear the sound of trucks, motorcycles, etc rumbling along the road on one side, while we had to look over the back of a holiday trailer (complete with humming AC unit) and rows of parked camper/recreational vehicles on the other side. It's a shame they didn't arrange the cabins more strategically, maybe plant some trees or hedges, to help hide the fact that the location is so uninspiring. On a positive note however, it is only a short walk to the (tiny) town centre.
Moon River property was not at all groomed. Weeds and more weeds. Grass not mowed. Did not feel the cabin was properly maintained. Sits on bluff overlooking a commercial building/campground. Would not recommend along with the fact you cannot get a refund.
I liked it. Our view was the top of a house and an RV park. Also I wished they would plant trees by the sidewalk so we don’t see cars whizzing by. Just to make the place feel more secluded. But I like the multiple fireplaces you can burn wood at. I loved opening the windows wide to see the river from your window. The staff were friendly as was the neighborhood.
I stayed here with my family for a short get away. Beautiful setting, and walking distance from a great park and ice cream store. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch and hanging out. Great rustic experience.
